I'd just finished my missive to Fydor and was in good spirits as i turned to the rest of my paperwork- the sight of which instantly caused me sorrow, for it was a list of those who'd died recently and left their estates without wills or heirs. Some were from the plague, others from accidents- and a few were from embassies overseas if they managed to hear of such a thing.
The first of concern were those with neither heir nor will, and I quickly skimmed the list, for if nothing else perhaps I could avoid the matter until after a time- and then a name caught my eye. An ache took my heart and I read it another three times just to be sure it wasn't a misspelling. Simon de Valais. My hand went over my mouth and tears leaked out of my eyes as I pushed the paper away and silently buried my head in my arms for a moment. Even if he'd left without a word he'd been the first man I'd ever known and I wanted him to be alright. I'd loved him, even if I'd only known him a short time.
Still, after a moment my mind began working again and I stifled my sorrow, forcing the ache further away until such a time as it could be freely indulged. How could I not know who his things should go to, when I'd met her myself and seen his joy at finding her at last? Wiping my face and setting my jaw I began penning a letter to Riva.
