Stepping out of my carriage, I looked around, trying to decide which store to venture into first. Siegfried had asked me to attend the coronation fete with him and that meant I needed a new dress. The ones I had were far too rustic to wear to a fete, and certainly not when I was on his arm.
Smoothing the skirt of the navy blue gown I was wearing, I turned left and decided to just start prowling the stores until I found something suitable.

Well, a Coronation certainly didn't happen everyday- and therefore, I didn't have a gown for one. Dressing up wasn't my strongest suite, but I knew I could find something that would work- just keep it simple, Jess, and you can pull through.
With a slight spring in my step- after all, I did love colors and the arrival of spring meant many of the fabrics were far brighter than they had been during the winter- I peeked here and there, looking for something that would suit my coloring and build. It could take awhile.

Coming out of my third store, still with no dress in hand, I stopped to let a woman with fantastic red hair pass by in front of me, smiling as I caught her eye.

Smiling in return and dressed in my trusty green gown I asked over the din, "Looking for the Coronation as well?" Her gown, while in the country style, was fine and it was a decent question- the worst she could say was no.

"For the fete following the ceremony," I answered, smiling. I glanced back at the store I had just left and then back at the lady. "There's not much in there, and they are charging a king's ransom for very low quality work."

"Thanks for the warning, because otherwise I'd have no idea," I told her honestly as I rolled my eyes at my own ignorance, though still grinning. "I think I'm going to avoid the main event as well- they're always so stuffy and full of people who are tired of standing." I was really in the mood for a sea green, but deep enough to avoid that pastel-mint color.

"I would go if I was allowed, just to say I'd seen it," I said, thinking how tragically dramatic the whole affair was. "But then again, I can tend to romanticize events so that I forget what's real and what was in the last book I read."
I blushed, realizing how silly I must sound.
"Have you had any luck in any of the stores?" I asked.

Smiling in understanding at her statement and then sighing melo-dramatically at the shops I'd happened to peek in I replied, "may that would be suited to others, but not a one for me. But then, I can be picky when I'm having to look fancied up. I'm happiest in my simple dresses with fun colors then all of these complicated things."

I couldn't help but laugh.
"I'm more comfortable in simpler things as well, but I think that getting all dressed up can be nice as well," I said. "Was there something specific you were looking for? In case I saw it and can point you the right way."

"A nice sea green, but deep- none of that mint color," I said with a scoff. "That color only belongs as cupcake frosting. What about you?"

Thinking a moment, I shook my head.
"No, I haven't seen anything at all in that shade," I told her. "I was looking for something subtle. Nice, but nothing that stands out."

"If it doesn't stand out, how am I supposed to see it," I asked jestingly. "And I'll have something dyed if I have to- but I still have to find a cut of gown I like. It's all too complicated- we should all just go naked."

I blushed deeply, certain that even the roots of my hair changed color.
"Oh, I couldn't even think of that," I said, shaking my head slightly, then chuckling. "I think I'll keep looking." I pointed to a store across the way. "I'm heading there next."

"Well, best of luck, and I'm going there too," i told her, suprised at her blush- what had I said? "One thing about being certain to want a unique color is scanning the rack is very fast.

"True, though some of these racks are so crowded you could miss something," I said, smiling. "I'll keep an eye out for your sea green while I am looking."

"that's very kind," I replied as I stepped inside. "Do you have any soft of criteria on what you're wearing?"

"Nothing revealing or daring," I answered. "Just something pretty."

"i'll keep an eye out," I promised, head beginning to spin. I barely knew what pretty was. Well, I would do my best and hope after a few wrong answered I'd get the gist of what she'd been saying.

I looked around, a little miffed at my own lack of nerve. Most of these dresses required a level of self confidence that made my head spin. Did all the women in the City show as much skin as possible?
I came upon a rack of green dresses in the back, seemingly of all shades. I turned to call to…oh my, I had no idea what her name was.
Making my way over to her, I said, "There's a whole rack of green dresses in the back corner."

"thank you," I told her as I turned to face her from the rack I'd ended up by. "There's some nice blue and purple over here. I don't know what sort of style you prefer, but the colors are good."

"I'm Jess," I replied, glad for the simple introduction. "Or 'hey you' if you really need to get my attention."

"It's busy enough in here that a 'hey you' might have every head turning my way," I replied, chuckling.
Moving out of the way of one of the many other customers, I got closer to the rack with the blue and purple dresses. I picked up one, the color of sapphires, to look at. It was lovely, but the neck line plunged nearly to the navel, almost meeting the slit up the side.
"These dress all seem too daring for me," I admitted to Jess.

"Spring is usually about daring, I've noticed," I told her as I began to cast my eyes about. "People showing off their plumage."
With a crow of success after looking in the direction she'd indicated and seeing a lovely shade of green I flounced over to almost pounce on it before someone else did. Sea-blue-green, with straps for sleeves that would look nice with matching gloves, a reasonable neckline and less flounce than one would expect for the skirt- very nice. Turning, I held it up and looked at Raegan, raising a brow.

"It's wonderful on its own," I quipped, then looked around with new enthusiasm, inspired to find something for her. "Let's play a little game. Name the first color that comes to mind."

"No rationalizing your answers," I chastized somewhat playfully but still having an idea. "Embroidery or sparkle?"
