Name: Catherine nó Gentian
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Race: D’Angeline
Played by: Lydia Schuler
Appearance:
Catherine’s skin is as pale as the moon at midnight. She comes in at about 5’7” and appears slender and soft-featured. Her eyes are a pale blue, and her long brown hair is so dark it has often been mistaken for black. She keeps her hair bound most of the time, only loosening it for assignations. She often smells of lavender scent—which she believes helps her patrons relax.
Personality:
Catherine is quiet and unassuming, but her eyes seem to sparkle with an inner vigor that characterizes a visionary. She is a very solitary individual, and can often be found leaning against a tree, gazing at the moon on nights that she does not have assignations. Her touch is gentle and feather-light, and she treats every patron’s body as if it were made of glass. She always pays particular attention to her patron’s eyes—believing them to offer a glimpse of the person’s soul—as well as the breath, which she inhales (along with incense smoke) in order to aid her in interpreting a patron’s dreams.
She is incredibly devout, often praying to Naamah after every assignation—and has made several trips to her temple.
History:
Catherine does not remember much of her childhood, only that her mother was an adept of Gentian House, as her mother had been before her. As for her father—her mother never spoke of him, but it is thought that he was one of Naamah’s priests, who had begotten Catherine on her mother soon after she had completed her marque, then—choosing his calling to Naamah over the welfare of his family—abandoning her in order to found a new temple far away from the City of Elua. After her mother died of a fever, Catherine was taken in by Cereus House, at the Court of Night-Blooming Flowers, having no other place to go.
Soon after she arrived, it was apparent that she would follow in her mother and grandmother’s footsteps. One night, after all of the fosterlings had gone to bed, young Catherine was praying to Naamah when she had a vision of the goddess. In the morning, the others found her on the floor, seemingly suffering from some sort of delirium, no doubt brought on by the force of the vision. When she finally recovered, she was met by the Dowayne of Gentian house, who, recognizing her potential, bought her marque. Catherine’s Debut was a quiet affair, her patron appeared satisfied with her interpretation of his dream as well as her performance in the bedroom, particularly remarking on her eyes. Catherine was particularly pleased with that remark, and took to using kohl to outline her eyes, taking the motto of Gentian House—“Truth and Vision”—to heart.
