Finally, out of these dank, depressing mountains! As the carriage pulled away I waved to my parents, dabbing my eyes lightly with a handkerchief as though terribly sad to see them disappear behind me; in fact, I was hiding my wide grin.
Oh yes, the City held much promise. Shops, men of standing, wealth, a Palace- there was a great deal in store, and I meant to have my tiny, delicately shaped hand with it's perfectly kept nails in every bit. What wonders awaited! And what mediocrity left behind! I already loved my freedom, and reveled in it. They'd never seen anything like ME there, and now they would- and I just knew they would adore it- as they should.
