“What are you reading?” Henri said, as he snuck up behind me.
“Henri!” I screamed. You should not sneak up on people like that!”
“I’m sorry dear sister. I was only curious as to what you were reading.” Henri said as if I hurt his feelings.
“Stop calling me that, dear brother.” I said the latter with a sneer. “I’m reading about the Skaldi invasion.”
“Hmmm,” Henri said. “That’s interesting stuff, lil sis,” he paused, “but shouldn’t a pretty girl like you be studying girly stuff?” He jested.
I sighed. Knowing he was only jesting with me to get a reaction. “Perhaps I should, dear brother, and grow up to be the perfect little lady just like father wants.” I said with too much emotion. He had gotten to me.
“Wow, calm down, lil sis, I was only jesting. You’re smarter than I am. Father just won’t admit it.” He said as he ruffled my hair. He moved to sit down across from me. “I’ve...I’ve got something to tell you.”
“Well then, out with it Henri.” I said.
“Well, I’m eighteen, as you know Aara,”
I breather in, knowing something bad was coming. He only used my name when it was something serious.
“and father has agreed to let me move to the City.” He said quickly, looking me straight in the eye.
“But... But you can’t!” I screamed. “You’re just going to leave me here! I won’t survive without you! I’ll have no one to talk to!” I went on screaming, to upset to think straight.
“Look, lil sis,” again he paused as if to get his wording just right, “I will write you often, and you always have mother.”
“Mother?! She has nothing left to teach me!, and you had better write me every day!” I got up and hugged him hard. I knew I was acting like a child but I really didn’t know what I was going to do without him.
“I will Aara, at least I will try.” He added, just to make me laugh.
