His words took me aback for a moment, but not so much because the idea of his love was unexpected, only the verbal sentiment of it. I knew he cared about me, and I cared about him in the same fashion, but there had never been an inclination on either of our parts to try and classify it. Being adepts it was sometimes easier that way, making it reasonable not to assume too much from one person, not to expect more than what they offered.
Nevertheless I knew he was telling the truth, and if he wanted to say what he said than I could do nothing less than accept it. "Yes, as I love you," I replied sincerely, shifting my fingers to entwine with his own.

The band around my chest broke and I exhaled in a relieved and joyous sort of way. For once I was completely without words and so I brought her hand up again, pressing it to my cheek before laying another soft kiss on her flawless skin.

Something about Ryan was much freer for his admittance of his feelings and I was glad to see it, my smile widening at the touch of his lips to my hand as I brushed my fingertips across his palm and wrist where he held it. The warmth of his cheek heated my skin slightly but I was never prone to blushing and didn't this time, instead letting my gaze alone show my own feelings. There was something uniquely comfortable about this moment and I was glad of it.

“When we’re somewhere more private, I will show you just how happy you have made me,” I told her with a smile.

A low chuckle left my lips at that. "I'm sure you will, and I will return the favor just as ardently, my lover," I assured him, smiling somewhat and looking at him smokily through my hazel eyes. "But there is dinner first, and the anticipation will only deepen things should we decide to sit through it."

“You do tend to try my ability to wait more than anyone else I have ever met,” I said with a grin.

"And you try mine, but in enduring don't we become better people?" I asked, my tone dry even as my smile grew more sensual and my eyes dropped to the glass before me. "So please don't expect me to ever stop tempting you."

“Such a wonderful, delicious threat,” I said with a laugh. I was so happy right now I could have burst. How was I such a lucky man?

"If you keep that up dinner might get far more interesting than usual, lover," I replied, feeling far more playful than I ever imagined I might. I should have accepted this thing between Ryan and I long ago.

“I can only hope,” I replied with a grin.
The waiter appeared and took our orders before slipping away again.
“I was offered a chance to travel a bit the other day,” I told her. “In a couple months a patron of mine is setting up a shop in Azzalle near the ocean. He has offered me a very generous sum to come for a week and make sure the finances are in order before it opens officially.”

I gave the waiter a pleasant smile and nod as he left, then turned my attention back to Fisher interestedly, linking my hands and resting my forearms against the table as I cradled my chin. "That sounds like a wonderful opportunity for you, and a profitable one, especially in these times when patrons have so much else on their mind," I said steadily, then furrowed my brow slightly. "But what of the fighting in that area? There has been word that the Skaldi keep moving in more and more closely and you might find yourself trapped in the middle of a war. I shouldn't like to lose you."

“His shop is on the seas side of the province, so with all luck it will be safe. If it seems a danger, I won’t go,” I assured her with a smile. “If it’s safe… perhaps you might like to come as well? And the girls?”

His offer took me by surprise and for a moment I simply looked at him, letting the idea float through my mind. The seashore. My father was Illyrian and I'd heard from him what it was like on the ocean but the idea of so much water still intimidated me somewhat. Could I let this pass me by though, or pass my daughters by? They shouldn't be limited in the same way I was, and even if they didn't remember this given their age I could remember it for them.
"If you think that it would be alright, I'd like to go, and I'm sure the girls would enjoy the salt air," I replied a moment, smiling more widely and hopefully showing a small bit of my nervousness. "I've never seen the ocean myself."

“It will be more than alright, it will be wonderful,” I said, smiling happily as I reached across and took her hand in mine, squeezing gently. “It’s a very pretty and safe little town. I have been there before, and can’t wait to show you.”

His hand on mine was warm and I smiled as he squeezed it, stroking his palm lightly with my fingertips. "I'm looking forward to seeing it with you," I replied in a low tone, eyes smoldering slightly. "Thank you for the offer, it's most flattering. You said you've been to this town before. What is it like- besides safe and pretty, and on the ocean? Are there shops?"

"There are, more than one would expect in a somewhat small town. It is on the direct road between the port and the city though, so it is in the perfect location," I answered. The excitement inside me at going away with her was almost too much to contain. "There's even a sculpture gallery there.'

"It sounds fascinating," I replied with my own sort of quiet eagerness, though my eyes no doubt flashed and showed my true feelings on the matter. "I suppose being in the City of Elua all of my life I forget that there are other cities. They have always been more of an abstract idea to me."

“It is easy to get lost here and forget the world at large,” I agreed, smiling and nodding slightly. “I suppose my early life is a bit of a blessing in that way for I got to see things outside the walls at an early age. I am honored to be showing you all these new things.”
