“Er, thanks,” I replied, a bit embarrassed by the compliment. “-- you're very nice,” I said, suddenly, a bit ineffectually.
I was never very good at handling kindness.

I blushed a little at her compliment. “Thank you,” I said with a smile. “So are you. I really do appreciate your help.”
I took her hand and headed down another row. “Oh, here is some more thread. I think we can find something here.”

I followed, hand in hand with Marie, feeling like a nice emotion, and not one I was entirely familiar with. Was it that maybe I'd made a friend?
Together we were looking for thread, and I started to try to locate something cheap but sturdy. “-- oh, what about this one?” I said, and I showed her a roll of thread that was just a touch thicker than necessary, but very cheap.

I ran my finger over the roll, feeling the thread. “That will work,” I told her, smiling. “I think I can even manage to make it not show very much.”

I smiled, then, nodding. “Oh, good – it's pretty cheap, might even be able to buy you an ale for your trouble.” A pause. “Or something else to drink, if you prefer.”
I liked her. I liked her a lot, in fact. She was well-rounded, generous, had good taste, and wasn't pretentious in the least.
I wondered if she would mind being friends with a bathhouse whore.

“Oh, I like ale just fine,” I told her, grinning. “That sounds lovely, thank you.”
I led her up to the counter and paid for my cloth before waiting for her to finish her transaction. I was happy to have run into her, she was very nice and I liked her a lot.

I paid for my thread as well, counting my coin carefully and pocketing the change along with the roll. “All done,” I said, grinning. “Should we go to the Poulet? Worst ale in the city, but at least it's cheap,” I offered.”

"As long as it's the worst, how can I pass it up?" I replied with a laugh. I linked my arm with hers. "Lead the way!"

I had to laugh at that, and arm in arm like true friends, Marie and I stepped out of Cible, chuckling.
“You're a girl after me own hear,” I told her. “Enjoying cat piss for the sake of it, now, that's something I can respect.”

“Excellent, I will keep that in mind,” I said with a laugh as we headed off.
