I was touched that Decimus thought of me as someone worth presenting to his brother – and I blushed a little, leaning still on the table, my hands under my chin. “Troubled times indeed,” I replied quietly, and while I wanted to beg him to see me before he left, or to send me word, I didn't, not wanting to cling. “Tell me about Caelum,” I said, then, wanting to keep him on a topic he enjoyed, because Decimus' smiles were always a prize, and I enjoyed them selfishly. “Make good on your word and steal me away on your high horse, and we'll see if I like him as you say, aye?” It was a tease, but one with no expectations.

I chuckled - she had a memory like an elephant. "He's a better man than I, takes care of affairs out of duty. My best friend," I added, as if that cleared anything up. "He's fairly new-come to the City, and will be riding to war as well."
My sister had been here as well, but I didn't mention her. I didn't understand her, or her lack of interest in me, and as such I preferred not to discuss it. I leaned back, toying with my empty fork, my gaze resting on the woman across the table from me. The day was bright outside, and given the company I'd just found again, it seemed to be brighter.
