I grinned at Noemi. I had thought she might get the pup, but one could never tell sometimes. "Aye," I answered her with a nod, "Leon is the man who's courting me. He's the, uh..." I blinked and wracked my brain for his title. "Something something d'Essoms... Comte, that's it. He's the Comte d'Essoms." I nodded, relieved that I'd remembered.
Glancing at Faolan, I smiled kindly. "Aye, I could see how a pup might help... Mayhap it would take the Princess's mind off of things. But I see how you may not want to chance it. Well, you know, you're welcome to come visit this lad here whenever you like! Mayhap I can bring him to the palace for a visit, if you were to get it squared away with your love." It would be nice to actually spend time with a kinswoman.

When Faolan mentioned being a guest at the Palace I wasn't too surprised. I'd heard they often hosted foreign members of the nobility or diplomats and that made a lot of sense- and the place was more than large enough to handle more people. My first time I'd been inside of that place was for the funeral for the Queen, and then a few times since to sit with Christien when I wouldn't be intruding but it really wasn't the time to go exploring anywhere that may be private rooms.
The idea of not being able to keep a puppy there though- that was completely foreign to me, especially since there was so much space and I knew that other nobles had animals there from time to time. "If you wanted a puppy I don't think they'd mind but you could ask at the Royal Kennels," I said in a cheerful tone, continuing to pet my puppy and looking at the vendor, who simply shook his head slightly when I reached for my coin purse, drawing another bright smile from me. "But really I think the Dauphine may like puppies, at least sometimes." Hopefully she would anyway, considering the gift Christien had mentioned getting her.

Fionnula raised a good point - that I may not be spending much more time living at teh Palace was true, considering, and I smiled at Noemi and her suggestions.
"Perhaps I will look into it, but perhaps I should really be asking my fiancee. I doubt he will have me living in the Palace all my days, and I've no idea his feelings towards dogs. I bet he would love one though," I said smilling, "what with them being man's best friend and all... it sounds like something a man from Camlach would appreciate," I mused. I looked into the basket of pups, and one looked up at me, twitching his nose, sniffing the air as if tracking a scent, then his eyes focused on mine and he barked once, his tongue waggling as he panted, his tail switching from side to side before he sat at attention. "I could use a hunting dog," I mused, unable to tear my gaze away. He was just too cute.

I grinned, watching Faolan's will start to crumble as she gazed at the pup in the basket. If my thoughts were correct, we would each be walking away with a pup of our own. "We'll all have to get together for puppy play dates, then, so that these little furballs don't miss each other," I teased happily, finally having found women I could actually talk to without fear of screwing something up or offending. Especially Noemi; she seemed rather easy-going, a fact I was grateful for.

It was nice to see that Faolan was considering the option of getting a puppy, though no one should take a pet without knowing that they'd be able to look after it without causing too many problems. That only brought more stress and pain to everyone involed, including the animal itself. My own puppy would probably just end up a well-trained pet to keep me company and maybe doing some tricks since I didn't see the necessity in teaching her to guard or herd and I tended not to hunt.
"It's pretty hard to find someone who can actually look at such a creature and turn them away, especially when someone you care about is holding it," I said with a light laugh. "At least that's how it works in my family. They should get to spend time together though, since they're siblings, and I bet they'd have fun on play-dates. And while they ran around we could have tea and chat."

I listened while Noemi spoke, but my eyes remained on the pup, who quirked its head to the side inquisitively before I knealt again to let my fingers course through its fluffy fur. It turned its head and licked my wrist before raising a paw to press against my arm. I furrowed my brows, biting my lower lip as I felt all my resolve melt away.
"Oh to hell with the consequences," I said, picking the little one up. It was a boy, which was perfect. "I am certain I could convince anyone that having a pup is a good idea. And I've the time to train it," I mused. I held him up, my hands under his front legs. He leaned forward to lick my cheek and I laughed turning to face the other ladies. "Looks like I will be joining for those play dates," I chuckled. The man seemed rather happy that the three of his pups had gotten homes, judging from the warm smile on his face.

I grinned at Faolan happily, a laugh escaping me. "Aye, perfect! I'd hate for the lads-- and lass," I said with a grin to Noemi-- "to feel as if they lost their siblings. Mayhap sometime next week we can have a playdate and let them romp around together. I'd be happy to host it," I offered.

It was nice that see that Faolan was able to come to the decision that she could indeed get the puppy she wanted and I smiled, then glanced at Fionnula and gave her a wider grin. She knew as well as I did that the pups were hard to resist and Faolan seemed like the sort of person who may not have many chances to relax and pets were good for that. No doubt if her fiancee wanted her to be happy he'd be more than glad to keep something as simple as a puppy around. "I think it's great, and he looks like a good puppy," I said to Faolan enthusiastically. "A playdate would be fun too, and if we keep doing them I can host them sometimes too. My brother and sister won't mind."

I held the bundle of fur in my arms, looking down at him as he seemed to survey the place, alert, like a good watchdog already. He showed great promise.
"I would love to come along, and I am sure this little guy would too," I said, scratching behind his ears and bringing his attention back to me. He seemed to smile, his mouth open, panting gently with his tongue wagging out teh side of his mouth. I giggled, tapping his wet nose gntly and then stroking his fur.
"He seems to be the guard dog already," I mused, "perhaps that was his role with his siblings. I wonder, don't you, if animal families have roles within their families like humans do. I bet they do, don't you think?" I asked them both.

Grinning, I nodded. "Aye, I'm sure. One's a guard, one's the sweet one, one's the funny one, one's the silent, strong one..." I mused, glancing down at my pup, who was grinning like Faolan's pup was, and he suddenly seemed to whine or growl or somewhat, starting high in his throat and then gradually lowering. He then began panting again, glancing up at me with his doggy grin.
Laughing, I shook my head. "Aye, ladies, I believe I may have the comic here," I joked.

It was interesting to hear them talk about how they saw their puppies growing up, the personality they saw in them. I'd had a good number of puppies and dogs in my life as well as other pets and no matter what they all seemed to have one thing in common- that they could change as much as a person could depending on how they were handled and treated. Any of these sweet puppies could have been turned into a killer in the wrong hands, and any attack dog could be gentled back down again if you had patience with them. Hadn't I seen such things with my own eyes, and helped to bring them about? It was hard to argue with personal experience.
Laughing lightly I continued to stroke my puppy, letting her relax as I picked her up for a moment to look into her eyes. There was life there and she did wriggle as all puppies would, but I liked her the best, even if the others were more active. That was why I'd picked her. Maybe if I'd been a Somerville I would have been able to sense more about her already, but I didn't mind the fact that I didn't know either. "I'm not sure what my girl will be but I'm sure whatever it is she'll be fantastic," I replied as I brought the pup back against my body and gave her a chance to settle. "Besides, I like the surprise of not knowing. It makes everything she does a small miracle because it's something no one expected."

I laughed at Fionnula, her adorable puppy taking to her so easily, and turned my gaze towards Noemi. I liked her outlook, it was true, to see personality in a pup, but who knew what could happen, but I believed that there was still some innate personality, whether it could be changed by circumstance or not. And I liked that mine seemed to be a guard sort of dog.
"Yes, I agree, sometimes tis not the most fun thing to already know what will happen before it happens," I said with a sad smile, though I forced it to be a happy one. That was something I knew and understood far more than I wanted to. It might have been viewed as a good trait by many, but to me, it was just another thing that made life a bit more difficult. It was getting easier to hide, though, most the episodes seemed to be happening in priovate intead of out in the open, but it did happen now and again and I was always mindful of that feeling of it creeping up on me.
"But I can tell you one thing, all of them will be loved and it seems they will all love back, which is really the most important," I grinned, letting my chin brush against the top of my pup's head.

I frowned at Faolan as she seemed to be thinking of somewhat unhappy but, as the moment passed rather quickly, I shrugged it off and put my grin back on my face. Her words were true; the most important thing was that we loved them and they loved us in return.
"Oh aye, Faolan, I couldn't agree more with you. I suppose, though, that I'd better get back before Leon realizes I've been gone for so long! Faolan, Noemi, it was a pleasure talking to you," I said sincerely. "I have no idea what the direction is for our townhome but I'm sure if you ask about for Leon, the Comte d'Essoms, you should be able to find me well enough. I hope to see you and the pups soon for a play date!" I grinned. Turning, I waved once more back to them, the pup barking once as if to say a farewell of his own. I had very much enjoyed meeting women who weren't so stuffy. I hoped there were more like them in the City.
