I nodded, though I did not move much, looking at Pieter.
"Tis true, though there are certain matters that even royalty try not to get too mixed in with, especially when it comes to love. We have Eluas precept to thank that even royals can make an argument when it comes to love and marriage. Sometimes they do not win, but at least they have that behind them. It is a sin and against teh law to force someone to go against it, to love as thou wilt."

I smiled and it occurred to me that for once in my life I probably sounded jaded. “Well, I am not of your land Sefirah but from the best I can tell I think your royals are about as strict about lines and producing proper heirs as any country. Oh I am sure there are exceptions and the like there are anyplace, but I am afraid I think love seldom enters into the whole equation.”

"Well," I said as I lay, the marquist working away, "I think it also depends how close you are to the thron, whether you are next in line, or some distant cousin. That matters a great deal and determines, I think, how much pull the family requirements have over your marital happiness."

“That is a very good observation” I smiled at her. “See you are a quick study maybe your real calling should be as a lady in waiting.” My words were not entirely in jest either as that was the sort of position I could indeed see her thriving in.

I smiled that he thought I had the social wherewithall and grace to be a lady in waiting.
"Thank you for the compliment," I said softly, "though I doubt that it would work so well. I tend not to get along terribly well with ladies a courting," I teased. "Besides, I am much rather enjoying the idea of being your assistant. It would suit my nature better to work with a man than with a woman. I doubt I could deal tactfully with a young lady fawning hysterically over her beau." He knew, afterall, how I had felt about love, though it had changed a bit since we last met, and mostly becuase of him and how he inspired me, even if my previous affections had gotten me nowhere.

I chuckled a bit “what a wonderful coincidence considering I am not much for fawning high bred ladies either much to my uncle’s chagrin.” It was true one of my main functions was to be on the market for a high born d’Angeline woman. But truth be told I had found better rapport with the down to earth types like Sefirah. “Glad you like the idea though it was a rather sudden occurrence to me.”

I laughed softly. I could feel the marquist slowly creeping his way up to the top of my back. The tapping he did made my skin vibrate, and then itch, and I tried hard not to move to itch it, knwing it woul dmess up everything.
"Well that is good. i am not so sure what I would do if I had to hear about every high bred lady that wanted to court you," I teased. "And I figured this was something tha tmust have just dawned on you - askin gme to be under your employ. But I am glad you thought of me first!" I added. "When is the earliest you would like me to start? " I asked. "Once my marque is finished, or sometime there after, within the next day or so, I will show it to my Dowayne, as is custom. Then I will have to discuss what I plan on doing. So if you need a certain amount of time, I could stay with Jasmine until you are ready to receive me."

I glanced over her shoulder as the work progressed and then looked back to her. “Well there are not any ladies courting or fawning over me so no need to worry on that front. As for the other I am flexible. So I would suggest that you start whenever works out best for you. That way you do not have to rush your final stages of settlement with the House.”

I rolled my eyes at what he first said, and smiled and nodded at the second part.
"Well, if they aren't fawning over you, they do not know what they are missing," I admitted with a smile. It was the truth. Any woman would be lucky to have him by her side. He had a great disposition, and he was generous, kind, and a great lover.

I chuckled “well I have had my share of companions since I took this post. It is all but mandatory in your nation after all. But only one of those was high born and we were both too bashful for that to have ever worked out. Rumor has it she has run off to Ruskovia now but that is another tale. The rest I have kept company with have been more of your station and for whatever reason it never tended to work out.” I grinned “so perhaps your words are a bit on the flattering side though none the less I greatly appreciate them.”

I smiled, though it seemed sad. "No no, not flattery," I mused, "truly, if people are unable to see the sort of kindness that comes into their lives, well then they do not deserve it," twas true... twas how I often felt about my father in relation to my mother. How he could leave a pregnant woman such as herself was beyond me. She was so loving, doting, kind, but then again, those always seemed to be the people who received the short end of the stick. I shook my head, shaking myself from my reverie, though it moved my shoulders and I heard a loud grunt from the marquist again. I apologized softly before looking back to Pieter.
"Ah well, I have no doubt when you are ready for it you will receive your heart's desire,' I said with a smile. "If not then I am sure you will be found one," I teased, hoping he would take it lightly.

She was thinking about something who knew what. All the same I kept the wry smile on my face "yes, I am rather accustomed to being told what my duty is. Having said that I seem to be pleasing with my over all progress as an ambassador so who knows my ultimate post might indeed be here. I would not mind that as I am mostly left to my own devices in this position and to be honest that suits me just fine."

I smiled at the news. "Oh that is great, Pieter! Yes, you must tell me how everything was when you went back home? And of your progress... I remember meeting you.... well sometime ago really, and I remember you telling me your goals for your time here. Have you met any of them?"

I smiled a bit more "yes, things are going well so far. My country seems to be developing more of a legitimate reputation and standing and so I suppose I am a success in some sense." I was surprised she was so excited but then again she always seemed to have energy to burn. Now that got my mind drifting to other areas but I shook my head to clear it of those thoughts for now.

I smiled with pride. "I am so glad for you, and proud. It must be something dear to you, to see your motherland rising in the esteem of other lands. What is it like there?" I asked. "The weather, the environment, the people. I do not know a great deal about it."

I pondered how to answer here for a bit "well as I have told you the sea influences us a lot. The main reason for that is the interior of the country is rocky and mountainous and not really suited for much agriculture." I grinned "and the winters are pretty cold and brutal with the increased altitude. As for people I would like to think I am a typical one except for being high born. Most of the common folk tend to be a pretty rugged lot making the best out of what the land and sea toss at them."

"Hmm," I mused, letting my eyes close softly, lashes brushign against my cheek as the marquist continued to tap ink into me. The sound of Pieter's voice was calming, soothing, deep and rich. "It sounds like a lovely place. I am guessing there is not much use for people like myself in a place that sounds so pure and simple," I asked, opening my eyes to bare slits as I relaxed, finally, and looked at Pieter. I was glad he had come with me, for the distraction he provided, the conversation, plus he was lovely to look at and caring.

"Oh there are people like you all over. Just in most places it is not viewed as honorably as it is here." I shrugged "and yes my homeland is pretty but it offers little in the way of commodities from the land. Your people are blessed with your physical gifts as well as a homeland that is fertile and provides a lot. Those things combined make for prosperity my nation has never known."

"Ah," I murmured. I knew that there were those like the servants of Naamah - not as trained in most cases - that existed in other countries, but I had always wondered just how badly they were treated, or how ill peoples' regards were for them.
"So what does your country trade in?" I asked, wondering if it was too political a question to be asking basically naked in a marquists shop. The marquist did not seem to care about teh conversation so long as I lay still, his attention on etching out the design. I whinced for a moment as he struck particularly hard. He noticed it and softly murmured an apology which I just smiled off.

I lifted my shoulders and let them drop “the sea offers most of our commodities though we do have some experts in stone from the landward side. And I have been working to develop some trade in horses but we are not known for equine flesh, at least not yet.” I glanced over her shoulder at the slow work and almost winced a bit in sympathy. “Most of our bread and butter comes from being middle men with a bit of skill at shipping. Moving things from point A to point B of course there is also the occasional act of honest piracy” I smiled a bit.

I giggled at his confession, even as the marquist's brow raised. "I remember the first time we met, discussions of you stealing me away to Illyria," I teased, "or me trying to keep you in Terre d'Ange," I let out a laugh, though it was not full-bodied, and was slightly restricted considering the situation. "It must be trying business to come here and go to other countries and set up ties," I said with a small smile. "So I am glad you are making headway. Speaking of," I said as I glanced over my shoulder at teh marquist, "are we nigh done here, my body is aching to move." He looked at me, shook his head and simply intoned "soon". I sighed again and giggled slightly, forcing the marquist to stop as I looked to Pieter. I knew that I could not move to stretch while the ink was being put into me, and before it could set for a few minutes, but by the Gods it was getting tiresome just lying here. Usually when I was in this position I was enjoying it far better than now with a needle being poked incessantly into my skin.
"Pieter?" I asked softly, "afterwards would you like to join me for a spot of tea? I am guessing I will want soemthing ni my system now that my nerves have calmed and once I am off this table."

I propped my chin in my hand and observed “well since it sounds like you are joining my household I suppose I am stealing you in some sense.” I watched her banter with the man working on her back and then just lifted my head and shook it. On so many levels I just did not understand d’ Angelines. “I would love to. Though after all of this you might be inclined for something a bit stronger than tea” I glanced at her back. “I know I certainly would be.”

I laughed softly.
"I guess you are! Whatever shall Jasmine do without me," I teased, laughing again. "And you know, that might not be a terribly bad idea. I do not think tea will really soothe as well as a bit of wine might." I nearly whimpered, not from pain, or even pleasure, but from wanting to get this finally done. It was my first and last time here, my last time being marqued at all. And within a few moments and a few more taps closer to the base of my neck, he let up. I looked to him and he smiled.
"You knwo the rules, no moving until the ink has set a bit. And then be careful once you move."

I looked between her and the fellow in silence as they discussed the business end of the matter. When they were done I asked “speaking of Jasmine do you need to go pay your respects there before being seen gallivanting around with a man that is not a patron?” I honestly had no idea at all of the protocol and I was always so paranoid about doing things correctly. I really would make a horrible pirate if we got right done to it since I was much too twitchy.

The marquist went to clean his tools, nodding once to Pieter to excuse himself before moving to go about cleaning up. I lay, my back uncovered but my buttocks hidden as I looked over to Pieter.
"Well, technically the first person other than the marquist who is to view my completed marque is my dowayne," I explained, "and then once i have shown it, and the dowayne has acknowledged it, I discuss with them whether I am staying or whether I am going. Since I am going then paperwork will need to be done to release me," I explained, smiling. "But I wouldn't want to make you wait through all that pomp and circumstance, so galavanting is fine, as long as we... well.. at least for now..." I murmured, giving him a knowing look and laughing softly.

She was playing the edge a bit but that would not do with someone like me. Being one in a high born position I had always followed the rules and this was clearly a time to do just that. “Well I really cannot see it so you should be good. As for the rest I hate to break it to you but part of being with a high born man is a lot goes into appearances.” I tilted my head “why don’t you go settle with your dowayne and get the things you need for now. I will go home and have dinner prepared for us as well as procuring a few spirits. We can dine, and you can begin getting settled in and we will send for the rest of your things tomorrow.”

I pouted prettily, but teasingly, and nodded. I understood that he wanted to do things the proper way, and understood a lot of that had to do with who he was, the position he held, and how it would appear if he did not follow the rules and was found out for it.
"That sounds like a perfect plan," I said wtih a smile. "I should be done in time for dinner. When would you like me to arrive at your home?" I twould not take me long to pack up my effects. The hardest things would be the paintings and drawings that I had. The gowns I could put in the chest that I had come with when I came to the Night Court. At the time it was far too large for the clothing I had, but now it would be perfect.

"At whatever times works best for you. I am pretty flexible and like I said you do not have to try and move everything now we can send for the rest later." I smiled a bit "of course it occurs to me you may not be ready to depart the Night Court that suddenly and abruptly. If you wish to stick around there a while and sort of ease into things I perfectly understand."

"Well," I mused, smiling warmly that he thought of me. He always seemed to care about what I thought, how I felt when we were in each other's company. "I will see how things go when I meet with the Dowayne, and I will be sure to keep you abreast of everything. Regardless, I will be seeing you for dinner, I could not pass that up," I teased.

I got to my feet "alright, you can let me know how things are going at dinner." I then looked her over and was not real sure how protocol for such a situation went "uh do you need any help getting up or getting dressed or the like?" I fidgeted a bit as I knew I was snot supposed to see her marquee but it did not seem right to leave her laying on a table mostly naked and just walk out either.
