Another change of subject, but this one was probably as much my fault as the last one had been. I wasn't used to being around people who kept many secrets, so it was something I'd have to learn. At least Matt was patient and nice enough that he wasn't snapping at me yet for going too far conversationally, and he might loosen up a little more once we had some cards in our hands. "The North Borough," I told him nonchalantly, knowing only that a lot of those related to the royal family and my Trevalion cousins lived there, and some of the Sovereign Ducs and Duchesses lived there, but not much else. "It's not too far though. What about you?"
A glance sideways told me that he was looking at the kitten, and looking down at her I noticed that she was watching him as well. "I think she likes you," I teased.

"Ah the upscale area" I stated when she said where she lived. "And we live in the west. We are royal cousins but not close enough to live in north borough." I shrugged "of course your case might indeed by like that of me and my sister. The house has been in the family a while and the names really do not change just their age." It was true when I thought on it many of these family dwellings had people in them with the same names as their ancestors. And they all lived in the same dwelling "it makes things rather static when I thin on it it like that" I added to her.

"I can't claim any credit for where I live, only the fact that I live there," I said with a smile. "And you're right, a lot of times it's based more on what our predecessors thought than we do. I don't know about the City yet to say whether or not the place it makes any difference at all." I was being completely sincere; as far as I could tell the entire City was beautiful, no matter what part of it you were in. Even in Serenissima though there were those who said the homes closest to the Palazzo were preferred to those further out, so perhaps it was just another way for people who needed to show their status to do so. "What's the West Borough like?"

I pondered her question a bit as we walked "well, I guess I would say it is about like your section just smaller. Such things tend to be divided more as to where heritage puts you." I shrugged a bit "linage is a big deal in countries that are governed by hereditary monarchies." I thought a bit more "of course how much financial means one has also has an affect on it."

Everything he said was making sense but at the same time I knew somehow that one piece of land was really just as good as another. Then again I was a Trevalion, and the Yeshuites said that Azza's sin was pride. Maybe mine was showing itself in thinking that I could be above a system that had obviously worked for hundreds of years. It was too deep a thought for such handsome company though, so instead of going further with the topic I smiled. "Well, any time you want to come and visit my house for a game of cards or a chat feel free to do so. I'm used to having friends around and it gets a little lonely knowing that there's no surprise of someone stopping by."

"Thank you for the invite. I may take you up on it as I am working hard at trying to do more than simply sitting around and moping." I smiled a bit "of course before I took up mopping I had a nasty tendency to sit around and scheme so perhaps I have been taught a lesson that will make things better in the future." Once more I had slipped the topic toward my recent troubles without really meaning to. But I had indeed not done much of anything here lately so my range of conversation was more limited than I would have liked.

"If you feel the urge to try and scheme again you're more than willing to come by and I'll find something else to occupy you," I told him cheerfully as the kitten started to get more used to my walk and peeked her head up further out of my arms. "Or at least I'll help you scheme something a little bit happier and keep you from moping. I can't say I'm good for much but generally I do a passable job at it." I was teasing him a bit but I didn't want to give him a reason to brood on what had happened to make him sad either. "And if you get too bored with me there's cards or a kitten."

I chuckled at that "you know Noemi you make it hard for a gentleman to not make off color comments." I smiled "but in keeping with the new leaf I am turning over I am trying to give those up as well. I do think I will take you up on company when I need cheering up though." I reached over and scratched the kitten's head and smiled "though I am not sure how long a kitten will amuse me. Cats are all kind of aloof and when they are not being aloof they treat you like you are a giant ball of yarn there for their amusement."

"In Serenissima I would tease you about how hard you're working to turn over a new leaf and ask exactly what kind of comments you would make, but in the interest of helping you to actually succeed I should probably refrain," I replied with a playful grin, then cocked my head to watch him stroke the kitten and the kitten enjoy it immensely. It could understand why. "And not all cats are like that. They're independent but they'll seek out a person for affection if they're raised right. I like most animals anyway so I guess it doesn't bother me so much in cats."
The shops of the District were starting to thin out a little, which meant that the residential area should be coming up soon, and I was a little eager to see my house. I had a feeling playing a game of cards with Matt would be very interesting indeed.

I looked sideways at her and decided to answer even if she did not ask. I mainly wanted to see her reaction as she was d'Angeline but had spent so much time out of the country I was not sure she would behave like most I had known. I also reflected that I had never been out of the country so that left me with a spot of ignorance I was suddenly interested in alleviating. "Well in the past I would have said something roguishly flirtatious while I was plotting and scheming how to get you out of your gown in a more private setting. But then again beautiful women have been a lot of my problem as well as a distraction so it is no surprise I find myself in the company of another. Perhaps I am addicted?"
I looked back as we were gaining on the residential areas and then I shifted topics once more. "I cannot say I know a lot about pets. Been exposed to horses as they are a beast of burden but not really a pet. Other than that I am mostly not informed."

The honesty of his statement was actually something I could appreciate in a way; nevertheless it drew a faint flush to my cheek as I gave him a sideways look in return. "Then I'm glad I didn't ask, considering how hard I've heard it is to overcome an addiction and I'd hate to be a problem," I teased with a smile. "Because I'd probably have to make some charmingly witty but indirectly flirtatious comment in return and I'd probably mess it up or something."
The switching topics was starting to get a little confusing so it made sense to stick to one, and the one about animals was likely the more rational and less complicated one. But it didn't matter very much because we'd be there anyway so I didn't feel too guilty about the the awkwardly shuffled topics. "Maybe you should try having a pet, I imagine it might help to keep your mind occupied as well, but if you can't manage that you're still more than welcome to visit mine. I can't promise there will be any horses in the house though."
The division into the North Borough was now clearly being passed and I glanced back over at him as I stroked the kitten's head. "I think it's just around the next corner unless I'm completely lost."

I just smiled a bit and listened as we walked. I had been keeping track of where we were headed so that I could have some hope of finding my way back if either of us were so inclined. “Well maybe I should try out a horse. I suppose if I am going to attempt pets it should be something I am interested in.” I glanced at the street “and while I do not know where you live, yet anyway, we are heading in the right general direction from what you described.”
