"No, I think I know how to play this one," I replied cheerfully. "If you land on a ladder you go to the top, if you land on a snake you go down to the bottom of it. Or are there other rules here?" I couldn't tell for sure, since the only ones who'd really played such games were my siblings and I.

I chuckled. "No, I think that covers everything." I held up four differently coloured pieces. "Red, blue, green, or gold?"

When she held up the pieces I considered them for a moment. It really didn't matter, since they all moved the same way, but everyone had their favorite colors. "I think I'll go with blue- unless you want it, then I'll take green," I told her with a grin.

I handed her the blue piece and the die, before putting the green and gold pieces away. "Red has always been my favourite," I told her with a smile. "We always let the youngest roll first, so I'll let you do the honours."

"Thank you," I replied with a wide, happy grin of my own as I took the dice and the piece she offered, then put the piece of blue ceramic at the start and rolled the die smoothly across the board. When it stopped tumbling it showed a four and I moved my piece that many spaces, which was blank, and then scooted the die over to my cousin. "Now you go."
