First year of Sabrina's Reign
We arrived and I dismounted and waited for Alora to do likewise. I then handed off my reigns to a waiting stable lad and once she had followed suit I lead her toward the entrance of the establishment "Ah here we are then and it looks like we beat the evening rush."

((i thought it was still year 1. *shrugs*))
I dismounted and handed the reins over and looked at the establishment. "Sounds like our timing's good."

As we walked I shrugged "I just hate being caught up in the crowds and forced to wait. I suppose patience is not one of my virtues." As we entered we were greeted by the maitrede and soon enough shown to our table. Once we were seated I looked over to Alora as we perused the menus "would you like individual drinks or to just have a bottle of wine opened?"

At the table I took and looked at the menu I was given then up the mitrede. "I'd like the Chateu Torelè white wine."

I simply inclined my head at her words and continued to peruse the menu. I found that steak with a lobster tail on the side struck my fancy and made my decision setting the menu aside. I remained silent as Alora made her selection and I left it to her to break the silence. I am not normally an overtly talkative person I did not at present feel the need to babble like a brook.

I browsed over the menu before deciding on a lobster with some shellfish. I set the menu aside and looked at Uncle. "How's Anacrasia?"

I placed our orders including the wine before looking back to my niece with a smile. “Well let’s see, in order she is beautiful, competent, controlling, and actually quite pleasant to be around. And that reminds me I need to introduce you to her. I am afraid one of our cousins made some rather poor impressions so you have some damage control to do with your natural charms. Do you think you might be able to manage?”

"Like what sort of 'poor impressions'?" For some reason, I wasn't surprised if one our cousins made a bad impression, but I remembered how that could reflect onto the family. So as usual politics go, it fell to someone to remedy the situation. In this case, that someone was me. "As so I know what I have to fix when I meet Anacrasia."

“It was our cousin Liselle and Anacrasia’s cousin Gabriel. The two of them made quite a scene at a fete. It seems they did not look too kindly on my union with Anacrasia. Of course Liselle does little aside from take up space and carry on socially.”

"Sounds like I can fix it." Not even a week into being in the city as Uncle's heir and I have to dive head first into the politics of my station. Oh well, better to dive in head first than try and tip toe through.

Our wine arrived and our first glasses were poured and the bottle was left. I grinned a bit “it should not be horribly hard to fix simply act like you have some manners and a brain. That is something Liselle has never been particularly good at doing.” Gods I loathed Liselle and I often wondered if it was possibly to disinherit a cousin.

"Luckily I have those." I picked up my wine glass and took a sip, allowing the expected small bite to fade.

“In your perfectly unbiased opinion” I smiled a bit at my own jest but other than that I let it lie.

"I do my best to work on my manners, and I attempt to work on sharping my mind." I never really got the change to sharpen my mind on the level of Lord Delaunay had his pupils over half a century ago, but it was more than sharpen than Liselle's.

I chuckled as our meals were set in front of us “honestly Anacrasia is a better person for you to talk to when it comes to sharpening minds. Of course that all depends on you getting on her good side.” I then cut into my steak and nodded to the waitress that it had been prepared in an acceptable manner “I suspect that is all what one refers to as irony.”

"She's not like Melisande, is she?" I dipped my spoon into the butternut squash soup I had ordered and took a polite sip at it and nodded. "In the sharp mind and not in attempting a coup that is."

Well Alora did have the blunt manner of our family “I have never met Melisande as she was long gone by the time I was born. But no I do not imagine Anacrasia is much like her and to the best of my knowledge neither of us are planning a coup.”

"That's good. I wouldn't like it I came to inherit under those conditions." I loved Uncle, and wouldn't like it if he was planning a coup against the crown.

“Honestly I have been rather surprised there have not been more whispers with the history involved. But so far no one has even bothered to raise an eyebrow so mayhap time does heal all.” And about then our dinners arrived so I leaned back to give the waitress room to set the hot plates in front of us.

I leaned back so my meal could be put down without any accidents. "That's good. I wouldn't like it if things went that way and I'd have to inherit like that. It wouldn't look good."

Her words vexed me a bit not to mention that they seemed well odd. I set about peeling some lobster tail from the shell before giving her a rather odd look. “That is the second time you have said something along those lines. Please forgive me but you sound rather surprised that I am not plotting against the crown and would hope the opposite would be obvious to you.” My heritage had long haunted me as I was sure was also the case with my niece. Thus it was rather irritating that the first rumblings of the past I had heard would be from her lips.

"You sound like I was expecting you to be plotting. I'm not, I would hate it if you did that. You're family, and would hate it if you and Ana were." I knew the past of not only my own house but that of House Shahrizai. And both were in line to betray the crown. "Please forgive me if I sound like I was expecting you to be plotting."

“Forgiven, but yes you did sound like you expected as much.” I finished removing the shall then cut the succulent tail into small pieces before beginning to dunk them one by one in melted butter. “Our past aside I am not ambitious at all. In fact to be honest I would have been quite content to remain a simple soldier all the rest of my days.”

"But things didn't work out that way, did it, Uncle?" I broke into my lobster and managed to pull some of the meat out with the fork and dipped it into the melted butter.

I shook my head no “no they did not. Of course I knew they would not but then again one does not really grasp such things until they have already come to pass.”

I blinked slowly “perhaps discontent is a better description than surprised.” I gave a bit of a smile at that as I was a bit discontent at finding myself a Duc, but it was my lot in life and I did not wine about such matters. One simply kept their mouth shut and took care of their duty.

"Mayhap it is." I took a sip of my wine. Well, this was going rather well, I thought. Not. Why does it seem like everything I say turns out to make Uncle upset?
