I watched him go for a few minutes, making sure he was well on his way before I started back to the bathhouse. I liked him, which was more than I could say for any other adept I'd met, unless you counted Elodie, who was no longer in their service.
The walk back was mundane, aside from the pain that every step caused, and once I reached the bathhouse, I dispatched a note with Henri.

As promised, I have arrived safely and am now going to go lie abed and nurse my wounds. It was a pleasure to meet you, and send word whenever you wish to be about in the City and I shall keep you company.

Then I did as I had promised, heading straight upstairs to bed, where I spent several minutes trying to get comfortable. He hadn't mentioned that even sleeping would be this difficult.
