Gad made no reaction to my pacing. I did not think that he would stand completely unready, but the temptation was there to find out and I found it too hard to resist. I waited until my walking brought me close to him, speaking as I did as if I was just burning off some energy.
"Yes, it can be a useful too indeed. Especially when you are stuck with a father like mine who..."
Before I could finish the sentence I striked, I kept my blade low, but on guard. I did not want to hurt him so I decided to see if I could cut his sword belt from his waist. I was more than willing to pay for it's replacement or repair if I indeed succeeded.

The strike came as expected and I quickly pivoted my blade to catch it. The move was a bit tricky as Therin went low most likely as to not injure me. Ironically shots to the head are easier to block with the angle of the blade and all. Steel rang as I blocked but other than moving my blade I showed no other reaction.
I even carried on with our conversation as if nothing had happened "you are too hard on your father he only wishes to see the best for you. Mayhap one day you shall realize this."

My move was perried by Gad and I moved to the side of him as I carried through the move, empty handed as it were. Or, I suppose empty sword. I held my blade, though I knew Gad had a watchful eye. My trained moves would probably not out wit him. He had real life experiance, experiance that did not play by the rules.
I hope that you are right," I told him. I then sheithed my sword. "One day soon yu should give me lessons. I know there is much I can learn from you."

I sheathed my own blade as well and nodded "I am more than willing to teach you what I can. Just like I said the rub is getting experience and not getting dead." I furrowed my brow a bit in thought "The big thing with those who just have training field experience is that they are very set and predictable. This is even when they are trying to surprise. One has to develop an uneven and sporadic repertoire yet still not loose track of their basic skills. This is harder to do than it might sound."

I listened, filing his words awya. Swordsmanship had never been difficult, but only in sport. If I was to further my skills I had to learn from those who had used the skill in a real life situation.
"I am willing to put in the time and effort to learn," I said. At least with my family preoccupied I would not have any resistance in such endevors.

I dipped my head “then I would school doing nothing other than your normal practice but work at being unpredictable. Do not follow any set pattern or cadence so that your opponent can time you or anticipate.”

I had been trained to do things a certain way for many years. Learning to be unpredictable might prove to be a challenge, but it was one I was more than willing to take.
"Just having you as a future sparing partner would be of great help to me," I told him.

“Simple enough but there is a trap in that as well. Over familiarity with a partner can make one predictable as well. It can also leave one a bit out of sorts when they encounter somebody who does not fit the mold of your normal partner.” I gave a small grin “those who are trying to kill you have the vexing habit of not giving you adequate information for preparation.”

I thought, it did make sense. With a amused grin at yet another random idea of mine I said, "maybe I should just choose random persons on the street and challange them to duals. I will just have to hope I don't find someone of great skill who would prefer to bloody his sword."

I shrugged “you say that in jest but I tend to do things that are similar. For example when I am out and about I have a tendency to pick fights and the like. It keeps me sharp and helps get some excess energy out of my system. I have found that prowling the Doorstep and tossing random people over bars is very relaxing. Not to mention around the Doorstep you find more than a few people who need tossed over bars.”
