I nodded. "I can recall a few times where I've had to sate myself on one food for a time. There were times when I had nothing to eat. Do you know that feeling? That gnawing in your belly that will not cease until you fill it with something?" I bowed my head. "I never want to feel that again, but I suspect it is wishful thinking. The streets never leave someone, even if you take them from the streets and give them food and fine clothes..." I shrugged. "I don't even know if this is making any sense to you."

I nodded, thoguh I frowned. He had apparently lead a very rough life, a very hard one and it was hard just hearing about it. "We have had rough winters... and war... I know about being rationed to the point that it is painful, but I have never been without ahome.. then again things are very different in Alba. even if I were without a home, I could still make anywhere my home..." I explained. "I do understand though. But I dont think that you will have to rvert to that state. I mean, sure you had to live like that once, and that is a part of who you are, but moreso in the sense that you have that experience and it makes ou more understanding of people in various situations, and more thankful when you dont have to starve."

I listened to her speak, nodding when she finished. "Yes, I suppose that's true, but while we're on the subject: Why hasn't anyone come to take our order yet?"
I did not hear the server approach. He could have been standing right next to us the whole time and I wouldn't have known it if I hadn't been listening for the sound of his breathing.
"What will my lord and lady be having today?" He asked, and I cringed at the use of the title. I hated them, titles only came with trouble, but I still managed to recite our order. "Is that right, my lady? Wild hare pot pie, caraway and flaxseed bread, and cider ale?"

I smiled as he agreed but it seemed he was a little bit tetchy for the waiter taking so long. Luckily, he arrived soon thereafter and asked our orders.
"Yes, perfectly right," I answered with a smile and a nod to the waiter, who seemed to be looking at Mael inquisitively. I raised a brow at him and shifted slightly, my hair moving just enough to show my woad, to fend off any comments should the silly boy think it appropriate. He must have gotten the hint, for he scurried off with a mumbled, "yes right away." I smiled inwardly.
"It seems you're rather intuitive, perhaps clairvoyant," I teased lightly, at his having mentioned the waiter's arrival before it had happened.

I grinned. "Well, you know what they say about the blind, about how they have abilities that compensate for their lack of sight," I shrugged. "I'm not that special, and if I had such a gift, I would have figured out how to use it to my advantage already."

I chuckled, almost bitterly. "Yes well, such 'gifts' as you say, are not always controllable. Or decipherable, so they may do you no good in the end."

I shrugged. "Then I would hardly call them gifts if I cannot put them to use. I think I prefer more tangible gifts, personally." I rested my hands on the table, idly running a finger over what I assumed was my knife.

His fingers found his knife and they trafersed over teh metal as he sat with his chin in his hand. "Me too," I agreed wholeheartedly. The visions could be good at times, I supposed, but they often left me either puzzled or totally emotionally drained. "Hey," I started, coming up wihth an idea, "have you ever tried to go to a Tsingano to see if they could tell you anything about your past or future. You know that their women have that ability to part the veils of time, right?" I asked, wondering if he had not tied that venue yet. "It might be that they could tell you something of what happened that night at your home." I hated top bring up a topic that made him look so sad, but it just crossed my mind. I might not be able to help him, but there were others with similar gifts, more advantageous ones, that could.

I frowned, now there was an avenue I hadn't considered, and while a part of me wanted to do this on my own, another part of me recognized the fact that I had run out of options. "I know a few Tsingani," I said carefully. "But I don't know if they would help me or feed me lies." I shrugged. "The few I know seem trustworthy, but on the streets, everyone's trying to gain the advantage over everyone else, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to see about it." I grinned. "Thank you, I wouldn't have considered it, but I guess I need to explore as many avenues as possible if I'm going to...accomplish this task."

It seemed the idea made him a tad uneasy, but when he explained I understood, nodding my head and "mmhmming" as he went along. "Understandable," I said with a soft sigh, "well, I will keep my eyes and ears open for anyone that might be trustworthy," I said wtih a smile. "And if anything comes to me," I said, though I was sure he did not get it in the capacity I meant it, "I will be sure to pass that information to you," and with that our food was brought to us and set down on the table before us. The stew smelled lovely, and the bread was sliced thickly with a slab of butter on the side. I was fairly salivating when I saw it. The waiter bowed and left us without a word and I reached across the table to pick up Mael's fork for him and touched his hand to give it to him. "It looks good," I told him, at least, "but I am sure it will taste better."

I was about to respond when the subtle chink of something striking the wood of the table coupled with the most delicious aroma told me that the food had arrived, as Faolan helpfully clarified a moment later. "It smells good too," I agreed, taking my fork from her, letting it meander along the plate until it hit something that I hoped was edible. This was part of the reason I did not often eat out in public where my every action would be observed.
I twisted my wrist and brought the fork to my mouth. The crust was warm and flaky, the meat tender, lightly seasoned, from what I could taste. "This does taste good!" I said when my mouth was empty. "If the rest of the meal is as good as the main course, I think I'd like to make a return visit."

I smiled widely as he made hsi way to the food, and took a bite. He looked pleased, adn sounded truly pleased, and I beamed more brightly. "I am very glad I have chosen well, then. I would have never been able to forgive myself for introudcing you to something heinous," I said with a soft giggle before taking a bite of my own. It was hot, not piping hot to burn, but hot enough to warm the stomach as it settled, and tasted very good, the meat tender, the stew inside thick. "Oh yes you will have to have dessert," I mused after swallowing and before taking another bite.

I grinned. "A meal's not a meal without dessert!" I pronounced, bringing another morsel to my lips. "This may seem silly, but will you let me know if I spill anything on my clothes? Sometimes I can't tell, and Adrien already has a lot of washing to do."

"I absolutely agree with you," I smiled at his exclamation.
At his request, I looked him over, he was beautiful, very beautiful, svelte although with a thinner frame than some. He was still very beautiful. "Of course," I said warmly. "And so far you are doing fine, nothing has dropped." And then, going back tothe topic of dessert, since it was something I sincerely enjoyed, I asked him, "what is your favourite dessert? Would it be the custard you spoke of before? Or is that just your favourite food in general?"

I nodded. "Sweet custard with strawberries, ideally, but strawberries are only at their best in the middle of summer, in my opinion." I shrugged. "I've learned to take whatever is offered regardless of my preferences, but I guess you probably have that figured out by now." I ate a few more mouthfuls of pie in quick succession. "I'm glad I can finally enjoy a meal like this without having to worry."
I paused, having stuck my fork into the pie. "I think many D'Angelines would consider it a minor scandal if someone neglected to order sweet things after the main course!" I said, breaking into a wide grin. "I'm sure you've probably noticed how gossip spreads faster than actual news here."

I smiled as he ate and spoke, and made a mental note sometime if he was still in the City, that I should bring him strawberries in the Summer. It seemed a nice thing to do.
"Oh yes, so I have heard, though I cannot say that I have been any subject of the gossip mill. I am just not interesting enough. Perhaps if I skipped out before dessert my name would be spread around the City like wildfire."

I shrugged. "Maybe you're frequenting the wrong social circles. You are an Alban woman with...interesting...markings. I know people who would find you very interesting." I grinned. "Gossip may travel like wildfire among nobles, but it travels like the wind on the streets."
I was content to eat in silence for a while. When my fork hit the plate several times, I assumed I was finished the pie and started on the bread. "I'm sure the others have seen you with me by now. They'll be curious, likely, but they shouldn't give you any trouble."
