I chuckled as I looked from teh effigy to Abby, her hand over her heart. "Yes, I think I would be right frightened as well. Stunned into silence. It would be a frightful yet terrific thing, I think. Though highly unlikely," I added, hoping to reassure her. I bent before the statue, placing the scented herbs and leaves and petals into the small mortar bowl . A bowl of waht appeared to be burning oil stood to the side, and I lit a single stick that was provided, and lit the fragrant mixture before passing it on to Abby. I sat before teh effigy on the stone ground, cross legged. "I... I hope you don't mind my sitting like this," I murmured, realising it was probably not what should have been done, or perhaps what was not socially... well not unacceptable but... I feared it made me look rudimentary, socially inept.

I added my mixture to the bowl, and set it back down next to the effigy. "I don't mind," I said. "A temple isn't exactly the place for painstaking social norms." I said down beside him, folding my legs under me.

The smokey aroma rosehigher, stronger as Abby added her mix to the bowl, and it burned. She sat beside me, folding her legs beneath her, and i smiled. "Ah, Camael," I murmured, cocking my head to the side as I looked up at him. From this vantage point he looked even stronger, taller, more god-like, even if he was naught but a stone representation. "Guide me as you guide those through battle, watch over me as you watch over those who fight in your name. I may not have a sword," I murmured, "but my heart is good, and my work is humble," I whispered out loud. I was sure most would pray silently, but it felt right ot say the words out loud, with Abby beside me. I was not ashamed, or nervous now, a silent calm settling over me. I smiled at the sense of serenity I felt. "And give me courage, mayhap not the courage to cross metal and shield with those who oppose our beloved land, but the courage to live life as Elua prescribed."

I listened carefully to Henri's prayer, and when he was finished, I murmured, "That was lovely, Henri."

I looked to Abigail as she spoke, and smiled the whistful smile that I had while I prayed. "Thank you. Who knows whether the words were proper or not," I said wtih a chuckle, "but it was from teh heart so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Did you pray for anything?" I asked, wondering if she had prayed silently instead of out loud.

I shook my head. "I don't know what to ask for," I said. "Mostly I agree with what you said."

"Well... I am not an expert in prayer but," I said wtih a soft smile, "I think that whatever feels like it is coming from here," I said, patting my chest, over my heart, "will be perfect."

"I think you're right about that," I said. "Not everyone can be a priest or priestess, the rest of us have to make do with our own way."

I nodded in total agreement. "Exactly, and I do not think it makes us any less noble, or our words any less true if we do not have the formality of it down. I think a prayer that has truth is far more important than a prayer that holds none. And the Gods must be able to decipher the two... they are Gods for a reason, right?" I said with an encouraging smile. "If you want, I can leave you alone to say yours, if perhaps I am distracting you from it," I offered softly, not embarassed or trying ot rush her, but knowing that many preferred to talk with their deities completely alone.

"No, it's not that," I said, "I just can't think of anything to say right now. Maybe a different temple will inspire me."

I nodded, smiling, and understanding fully. "Would you like to try another one right now? Or if you are a little peckish, maybe we could have tea if you like?" I asked her as my hands passed a little self-consciously over my thighs and knees, brushing away dust that wasnt there.

I shook my head and pointed out the window to the sun. "It's getting late," I said. "I think I ought to go home." Hastily I added, "But next week, I would love to go to another temple with you and get something to eat after."

It was getting late, and it was only her reminder that made me notice it. With a start I got up and nodded. "You are right, I should be getting home as well." I smiled at her warmly. "Thank you so much for coming with me, and I look forward to next week!"

"You're welcome," I said. "It was lovely to meet you Henri, I'll see you next week at...the Temple of Naamah?"

The Temple of Naamah... I could feel my cheeks warm just slightly and hoped they did not colour. "For certain!" I replied cheerily.

I nodded. "Well...goodbye then!" I said, before turning and walking out of the temple, picking up my shoes along the way.

I would have walked her home, but I was too tongue tied to even offer it. I would have to appologize the next time we met for my lack of chivalry there. I watched her alk away, apdding out on bare feet. "Right," I whispered before hanging my head. I turned to the effigy.
"I hope that that courage comes soon," I murmured, looking into his face before I too turned and left.
