Smiling warmly I nodded. "Then everything's set." Once again letting her squeeze my hand as tightly as she wished I led her out of the alcove and continued to walk with her through the adept's wing; her room would be close to the back. "They've placed you where it will be quiet so you can get lots of rest from your trip," I told her.

"Ok," I said. I hoped it wasn't too quiet. I was used to noise and bustle. My family was very large and there was always a comforting level of noise around me. I chewed my bottom lip as we walked.

Smiling sadly I continued to walk with her. "Is there anything else you want for your room? Something to make it feel like home?" At seeing her lower lip between her teeth I tsked slightly. "You'll chap your lips that way."

I immediately released my lip, blushing hotly. It was a habit I had when I was nervous or scared, I didn't want him to think bad of me though so I concentrated on not starting again.
"Are there flowers in the window? At home we always have flowers in every window," I told him

"There can be," I said kindly. "All different kinds. You'll have to take care of them, though."

"I can do that," I told him, brightening. "I take care of the ones at home. Mother says that the flowers like me because I'm the only one in the house who knows how to be still and quiet. She has a garden out back and I always help her."

"That's wonderful," I said with a smile, glad to finally see her shed her sorrows for a moment. "You can have as many flowers as will fit on your windowsill, especially now that winter is coming; some are too delicate to leave outside for the frost. The gardens are very big and you're allowed to play in them as long as you don't pick anything there's only a few of. A lot of the other girls play out there too."

I smiled genuinely at the knowledge that my new home had large gardens. My hold on his hand shifted slightly, I still held tight but I no longer clung to him.
"That sounds very nice," I said.

"It is," I said with a wider smile. "And you're just in time to see the final blooms. It will be winter soon ad the only flower you'll be able to see are the ones kept inside or placed in the greenhouse. What is your favorite flower?"

"Tulips," I told him, grinning. "We plant rows of them all along the house. When they bloom it looks like everything is edged in pretty ribbon."

"Tulips are nice and colorful," I agreed. "But I like flowers that smell. We keep some tulips blooming for decorations during the winter, so there may be a few pots of them you can get for your room. I'm sure you'll do the best job at keeping them well out of all of them."

Smiling softly, I said, "I know what it's like to miss your family and I know the House very well- I've lived here my whole life. Besides, one of the other children may have teased you and you didn't look like you were ready for playing."

"I wasn't, I'm not. It's all just so different," I told him. I started to chew my lip and stopped. "What was it like growing up here?"

"Like a home with a very large family- everyone looks out for each other and helps," I said calmly. "There are spats and arguments, but in the end everyone gets along well and bonds together to get the things they need to done. Everyone has something to teach you, so it's also a little like a school, but the classes are interesting."

"I like school," I told him, smiling even more. "I like writing and reading is okay. I don't like arithmetic though, is there much of that?"

"Almost none at all," I reassured her. "There is music though, and dancing. Music class is my favorite but I'm not very good yet."

"I'm not good at music at all, they tried to teach us at the school I go to and I was awful," I said. "I like to dance though. I dance with my father and my brothers all the time. They used to let my stand on their feet, but now only William does that cause he's so tall."

"It sounds like your father and brothers were very nice. I used to let my sister stand on my feet when we danced but she got tall very quickly," I confided with a grin. "Here in class they won't let you stand on anyone's feet though- you'll be pared with someone almost the same height as you are."

I knew I was much smaller than most boys my age, in fact I was small enough that my parents had taken me to a chirurgeon a year ago to see if anything was wrong. He had said no, that I was just going to be small.
"That will be nice, I've never danced with someone my height," I told him.

"It's a lot of fun," I agreed. She seemed so small and fragile; how would she ever survive an assignation? She would have to use her inner strength and I hope she could keep all of it that she seemed to have. "You'll learn every kind of dancing they do at Court and have ever done there and many, many others besides. You'll do wonderfully."

"It's true," I insisted with a grin. "I know things like that, it makes sense." We were at her door, so I knocked softly and then, after no one answered, motioned for her to open it. "This is going to be your room," I explained.

I opened the door and looked inside, hesitant to step in yet.
"All this?" I gasped softly. It seemed very large to me.

Once she opened the door I stepped in, my hand on hers bringing her with me. "Yes, all of this is yours to do with as you wish." Pointing, I said, "That's your window where you can put your flowers."

I smiled and let go of his hand, walking over to look out the window.
"It's very pretty out there," I said, my view was of the edge of one of the gardens.

Walking over to the window after I noticed her bag on the table I said, "You did get lucky with the view; my window looks out onto a tree."

"But I'm on the bottom floor and looking at the trunk," I explained with a grin, glad to see that she was cheering up. "There's nowhere to climb but up, which I have done before."
Walking over to a drawer of the dresser I pulled out some ointment and bandages. "I should put some of this on your hand so it doesn't scar," I explained as I stood by a chair and motioned for her to sit.

Obediently I sat and held out my hand for him. I wondered why there was medicine and bandages already here, but didn't ask. I didn't want to let the fear back in.
