I reached over to sneak my finger into my daughter's fist. She gripped it with her strong little muscles, and waved it around, causing me to laugh. "That's good," I said. "I'd like to do it in a month or so, then I will be stronger, and so will this little one."

"I'll get a date settled then. Look at her, she's the center of the room and knows it," I said with a laugh.

"That's perfect, just let me know when," I said. "She is, she is just the best babe."
Synnove yawned. "Oh, is it nap time again?" I cooed. "Do you want to rock her to sleep, Papa?"

"Aye," I replied, not even realizing that I slipped back into my country accent as I looked down at the sleepy little face. Gently I began to rock her and unbidden began to sing an old lullaby that my mother had sung us. It was about a little lamb.

Christophe's voice was sweet and soothing, and I found myself drifting off as well. "You sing well," I murmured. "I may fall asleep, but you're welcome to stay as long as you want."

"Thank you," I replied, looking up from Synnove with a smile. "You rest. I'll get her settled."

"All right," I murmured, closing my eyes again.

I smiled and began to sing again. Slowly the wide, curious eyes of my daughter began to close. I watched her fall asleep in my arms, my voice growing softer to a hum, and then it petered out all together. I simply sat there for a time, watching her sleep.

I felt asleep to Christophe's voice, with the knowledge I would wake when it was time for her to eat again.

I spent some time there, just watching her sleep. This is my daughter, I thought to myself. I don't see it now, but one day I'll see some of me staring back.
I was smiling as I stood and set her in her crib. She looked so peaceful, I was very careful not to wake her. I glanced at Soleil, and saw an identical expression on her face. I smiled wider and then left them both to their dreams.
