“Perhaps, but even if I did it’s still nice to hear it from you,” I said, smiling at him over the rim of my teacup before taking another sip.

My smile widened a little at her comment. "I am glad," I said. I took a few more bite, enjoying her presence and the treats. It was busy and I was glad to see that this city seemed prosperous as well as this tasty little treat shop.
"Terre d'Ange seems to do well for herself," I said. "I hope that it is true and not a misjudgment on my part."

"It's true as far as I am aware," I replied. "Of course I am not privy to state reports." I chuckled as I selected another item from the tray.

I ate another treat. I was finally finding the end of my selection and was a little sad. Though, my belly was feeling quite full so it was probably a good thing. I have always had a natural tendency toward thinness, but I'm sure there was a limit to that somewhere.
"Are things at least going well with you and your family?"

"Oh yes, very well," I said, smiling. "Tell me about your family, do you have siblings?"

I nodded slightly in a yes as I spoke, "I have four brothers and three sisters. I am not particularly close to any of them though. My mom kept me in close quarters to her when I was young so I became accustomed to entertaining myself."

I tilted my head, and had to control my tongue. I wanted to ask why his mother had kept him so close, but I restrained myself.
"Are you the youngest?"

"I am my mother's only living child and am her youngest. I do have a couple of younger half sister's though." I thought ofthem with a small smile. I had spent a little time with them when we were younger, before duty became more important. "They were sweet when they were younger. "

Ah gods, it was so hard not to let my curiousity get the best of me when he said things like that. I remembered my place though and asked another question.
"Have you come to Terre d'Ange just to visit?"

I thought for a moment, that was a good question. "I have not come to visit on a short vacation. I will be here for a little while, my father want's some Ch'n representation here. I think he is also curious about Terre d'Ange in general. I do not know how long I will be here though, I suspect that at some point he'll want me to go back to Ch'n."
I did not know yet, for sure, if I would be marrying anyone so I decided to leave that part out.

"What do they say about Terre d'Ange in your homeland?" I asked, smiling.

"To be honest," I said, "I don't know how many people know about Terre d'Ange. I only heard about the country after my father said I was to visit. We have some difficult relationships with some of our neighbors so they tend to take up everyone's mind. My, instructor, however had mixed feelings." I paused for a moment, I was never good at playing the charming diplomat. At least not without preparation. I just hoped that I didn't say anything to make Josette think too poorly of us. I didn't see our differences as right or wrong, just different.
"There is some jealousy," I said, "Terre d'Ange is located in a very good location and your people benefit from it, perhaps without even realizing it."

"Not all of us are oblivious to how fortunate we are," I said, feeling the need to defend my homeland. "And it's not as if we haven't had our own struggles and fought for what we have."

I finished off the treat I was eating and thought for a few moments before replying. While I did not think that Terre d'Ange had it's fortunes handed to them on a silver platter. I also felt that the people in Ch'n struggled a lot more and for a lot less.
"I did not mean to imply that everything had come easily to Terre d'Ange." I bowed slightly as is custom and habit for me and said, "I apologize." When I was sitting up in my chair again I said, "There is still much of Terre d'Ange that I have not seen. Well, to be honest, most of it. I do plan on visiting most of it in time so that I have a good understanding of your people."

“Visiting outside the city will give you a much better idea of Terre d’Ange is really like,” I said, nodding. “It’s a beautiful land, truly.”

I nodded, "I was told it was pretty." I didn't know how much the d'Angelines knew about Ch'n. We had quite a beauty of our own. There was not much that could match a grove of cherry trees after their flowers turned white. On windy days it appeared to be snowing.
"Have you ever seen pictures of Ch'n?" I asked.

"No," I answered, shaking my head slightly. "I've only heard a few tales in fact.'

"Tales?" I asked. I was curious. My sweets were gone and my belly full, at least for a short period of time.
"I don't have a lot of pictures, but I do have a few paintings of Ch'n in my living quarters. I would be interested in hearing some tales if you would like to see the paintings."

"I would love to see the paintings, but I'm afraid the tales are not much to tell. Mostly just rumors most likely," I told him.

"I would still be interested in hearing them, even if they are short. You can see the paintings either way. I just like to know how others view Ch'n."

"Then it would be my honor," I said, smiling. I took the last sip of my tea and set the empty cup down.

I was glad to hear Josette say that she would accompany me. Since our brunch was over it seemed a good time as any to head that way. I placed a small token of my gratitude on the table, for whomever would clean up after us. Though the token was more for the tasty treats than the cleaning. After all, we do have manners and did not exactly leave a mess.
I then held out my arm to lead Josette back to the front of the door where I knew my carriage would be waiting. While I did not bring anyone else along, the servant in charge of my transpiration was always very studious and watchful for when he was needed.

I smiled in surprise and pleasure as I rose and took his arm. I hadn’t realized he meant right now, but was happy that he had.

I lead Josette to where I knew the carriage would be waiting and helped her aboard. I told the servant to take us back to the palace and then got in after her. He closed the door behind us and then quickly went to the front of the carriage to take us back.
As the carriage started to move I asked her, "have you been to the palace before?"

“I have,” I said, smiling at him as the carriage began to move. “For fetes mostly, like when we met.”

I felt a little silly when she answered the question. Obviously she had been to the palace before. I tried not to let it show but simply nodded.
"Well, I hope that you will find my place there to your liking."
