"Rather small," I answered, "and smaller still since we came to the City. Just myself, Marc, and our other two children." I made a little face and added, "Though now that they are grown, I don't see them as much as I would like."
I smiled, absently shaking a rattle in the shape of a horse - this was definitely a keeper - and then shaking my head. "But you know how it is when children are growing into their late teens: me, me, me; they forget they have parents, or they want to."

I nodded in more understanding than she would ever know. "Yes.. always blaming the parents for whatever slight they feel has been dealt upon them. Flighty beings, adolescents," I said with a chuckle. "Then again, we all go through that stage. And everyone that does forgets that their elders were there before them and lived through it."

I laughed at that. "You sound as if you have experience in these matters. The young oft forget that though we are their elders, we are not so old that we have forgotten what it is like to be young."
I felt an aching pain in my back then, something that happened if I spent too much time on my feet these days.
"I fear I should be getting back," I said, sighing softly. "But I would love it if we could perchance spend time together again. I hope you don't think it terribly forward, but I could use a friend in the City. Perhaps lunch anon?"

I saw a slight grimace come to her otherwise happy and serene face and nodded. "But of course, lunch would be lovely, and I too could use a friend in the City," I said with a soft smile. I placed my hands on her shoulders gently and kissed both of her cheeks. "And feel free to call on me whenever you please," I added as I turned to walk towards the door.

I watched her go with a pleased expression on my face. It was high time I began cultivating some relationships in the City and this young Shahrizai woman could be just the thing to get my social life going again.
I purchased a few of the things we had been looking at, and then headed for home and a hot bath.
