Every so often I just needed time out and away from Cereus. I loved my House, but sometimes it just became a little close. The last few days had been a constant stream of problems and arguments to be settled and when it turned out my afternoon was going to open up I begged time from Donantien and he let me slip away with his blessing.
I’d sent a note to Cannelle, hoping she could join me, and told her I’d be shopping at Sujet a’la Mode. I felt the need for something pretty and daring, and this was just the place.
I was browsing through a rack of velvet bodices and keeping one eye on the door in case she entered.

The week had been a good one, it wasn't often that I had stressful weeks as Second, and I'd been Second long enough to know how to settle matters quickly. So when Zoe's note came about shopping, I happily leapt at the chance. I doned my wine coloured gown with gold accents, and hurried into town with a some what endulged purse.
Finding Sujet a la Mode easily, I opened the door and entered with a grin. It wasn't had to spot my old friend, and smiled wider as I wandered over to her.
"Horrible, that won't go with anything I own." I said teasingly as I pointed to her right hand that lay fleetingly on a emerald bodice.

“Well it’s good I wasn’t shopping for you then,” I replied, grinning at her. “I’m so glad you could come.”

I chuckled and came to stand beside her. "How could I not? I'd never give up the chance to see my most favourite Cereus adept thats not related to me." I teased with a wink. "Speaking of Cereus, how does your house fair?" I asked as I turned in toward the rack holding the items she was looking at.

With most anyone else, I would have not let on that Cereus was anything less than the perfect example of how a House should be. With Cannelle though, I knew I could be honest.
“Like a pot of boiling lobsters,” I said with a sigh. “I think someone put itching powder in everyone’s bed for they are all jumpy and at each other this week.” I rolled my eyes and smiled again.
“Fortunately, I am not there right now and the place can survive until I get back.” I picked up a lavender velvet bodice with grey lace edging, holding it against me. “What do you think?”

I chuckled and shook my head, knowing there had been many days I had felt the same, especially when I had first been made Second. Zoeline was young and new to her post, but I knew she would come to find herself and a balance within her house.
When she changed the subject I turned to look at her as she held up the bodice. "Its nice." I said, wrinkling my nose before looking at her. "You know me though, I have horrible fashion sense." I chuckled, it was true for the most part. I always felt very unsuccessful when it came to suggesting clothing for others, and myself as well. "Do you like it?" I asked her as I reached out for a peach coloured bodice.

“I do,” I said, “I have a dress that’s a little darker grey that I think it will look nice with.” I smiled and set the bodice aside to purchase later.
“I’m in the mood for something a little more daring though,” I said, chuckling.

I turned from the attention of the peach bodice to look at Zoe with a little smile. "Oh yes?" I asked, my smile growing larger. "How daring?" I was curious at what she had in mind and I did enjoy the intrigue of those that wished to push propriety. It wasn't very lady like, but I got a little thrill from it.

“Something stopping just this side of scandalous,” I said with a grin. “There’s going to be all these Alban and Eiren visitors descending on our city soon enough. I’d like to find some way to stand out from the crowd perhaps.”

I grinned. "Oh yes, I heard." I said with a chuckle. "May hap the Queen will throw a fete in their honour. May hap we'll even get a chance to see them in person." I added as I turned to look around. I spotted a rack of clothing and took her hand. "Lets try over there." I suggested and tugged her toward where the gowns were. "Wouldn't that be exciting to have an assignation with some foreign Alban prince?" I asked with a gleeful smile.

Giggling, I followed her happily.
“It would. Or I’d settle for a soldier,” I said with a grin. “It’s the foreignness that sounds so appealing.”

I chuckled as we reached the other rack, grinning and turning to look at her. "Oh I know!" I said laughing. "Hmm, big muscular Alban warriors." I looked at her and bounced my brows playfully. "All dark skin and woads."

“Stop, or you’ll have me so excited I’ll be throwing myself at them as soon as they cross the gates,” I said with a laugh, swatting playfully at her arm.

I laughed and turned my attention to the rack, finding a dark blue gown with a deeply plunging neckline. "Oooo!" I exclaimed as I took it off the rack and turned, holding it to my body. "Here's something daring." I said with a grin. "The Albans would throw themselve's at you instead."

“Ooo… it’s beautiful,” I said, my eyes widening a little and I stepped closer, reaching out to finger the silky material.
“Would one call that a neckline or a stomachline?” I asked with a grin. “It’s certainly low enough to show a bit.”

"Mmm, stomachline probably." I said grinning at her appreciation of the gown. "Do you like the colour?"

“I do,” I said, nodding. “Blue has always been a good color on me, especially the deeper blues.” I looked up from the dress to her and grinned. “Should I try it on?”

I nodded eagerly. "You'd be mad not to." I said handing it toward her with a grin. "Perhaps I should join your quest and find something daring for myself." I added with a chuckle.

“Oh, you should,” I said, nodding as I took the gown. “I’m sure there will be plenty of woad marked men for both of us.”

I laughed softly. "Oh Elua, I hope so." I said with a grin. "Should we wear the same gown?" I asked playfully.

“Oh no,” I said with a laugh. “I’m going for unusual, remember.” I began looking through the gowns.
“Which of your assets would you like to show off?” I asked with a grin.

I chuckled softly. "I have no assets other then my dazzeling wit." I teased with a grin. "Don't worry about me, I'll pick something. Now, you go try that on before some one steals it away."

I rolled my eyes but gathered the dress to me. “Your assets are quite dazzling even without a dress to show them off,” I told her with a smile. Then I turned and headed back to the dressing room to try on the gown before she could contradict me.

I chuckled and shook my head, watching her walk off as I turned back around to look through the other gowns. I had almost wished I had kept the gown for myself as nothing seemed to jump out at me. Either way I continued to browse in hopes that I would find something, I even moved to another rack hoping something would jump out at me there. "So, any interesting patrons around your neck of the woods?" I asked curiously as I looked over the gowns on the new rack.

“They are all interesting in their own way, aren’t they?” I asked with a laugh as I laid my gown aside and began to try on the one she’d found. “I had an assignation with a Ch’n spice merchant last week, that was new and interesting. You?”

I raised a brow. "Ch'n?" I asked with a little smile. "That is interesting." I thought about the question. "Not really, its been quiet lately. Most of the men that come to Heliotrope wish for younger adepts." I shrugged as I looked toward the curtain she was behind. "I have a few regular patrons I see every now and then. Tell me about this Ch'n merchant, what was he like?"

“He was very eager,” I said with a chuckle. “And fascinated with the way my skin looked. He did smell wonderfully though.”
I finished putting the dress on and looked at myself in the mirror. It wasn’t cut for me, I was too short for it I realized with a scowl.
“I think this would look better on you,” I said with a sigh.

"Oh?" I replied to both her comments. I moved past the rack toward the curtain and then peaked behind it to look at her. "I think its very nice." I said with a smile. "What did he smell like?" I asked curiously as I stopped looking at the gown and was now looking at her face.

“Mostly like cinnamon and this spice he said was saffron. It was quite arousing,” I told her, smiling. “Do you want to try it on?”

I raised a brow, curious at what he had been like in bed, and not just the thoughts of such an alluring scent. "Alright." I said absently, shruging a little as I thought about the indulgence of such a foreigner. Things had been, sadly, a bit dull as of late; I truly was looking forward to having some fresh blood in the city.
