“I’m not certain,” I answered. “In fact, I’ve already been here longer than I’d originally planned. I have found I rather enjoy teaching.”

I smiled. "It seems that time just passes so quickly without notice sometimes. Though it must be rewarding, to see others flourish under your tutelage," I thought on how Naia had become quite good at wine tasting and bartending. "But I can understand... the want to go home. But.. if work here is not done, visits now and again will just have to suffice. Tis better than nothing at all I think," I said with a smile as I took the last sip of my wine, pouring another half glass for myself.

I chuckled and then emptied my glass. I held it to him, silently asking for more. “If I go home, I know I shall never return here. It helps though to have people with whom I can speak comfortably and who don’t seem so foreign,” I told him, smiling.

I smiled as I filled his glass as well, setting the bottle down afterwards. "Good point, I had not thought of that. The dangers of returning, to never return here. But... well, I guess then the only way to return is when the work here is well and truly done, or the heart cannot take it anymore. Though I agree, this helps," I said, motioning at us and the concept of finding a bit of home in the City. "It is nice to be able to relate with someone.... not foreign," I said with a laugh, totally agreeing with him. "Although to me, it is still a little exotic, Terre dÀnge and its people, even though I had visited many times when I was younger."

“Truly? What brought you here when you were younger?” I asked before taking another drink of wine.

"Business with my father. He used to run trade with some of the wine shoppes here, he still does, actually, has been since before I was born. This was my idea," I said, looking around the shoppe. "An experimental business venture in the City instead of always supplying and making the trips, especially with him getting older. With me here in the City, I can run any business with Terre d'Ange from a base within it."

“Ah,” I said, thinking. “You likely feel quite a bit more at home here then.”

"Yes, and no," I said thinking of how things were still so different here than back home, "part of me is at ease with it and wants to be here, though there is a large part that misses what I grew up in, my home, the vineyards, creating and being more... free I suppose you could say," I said with a laugh. "Plus the added pressure of knowing that my father is expecting me to look for a wife sometime in the near future," I said with a chuckle, running my hand through my curled locks.

I chuckled. “Yes, that same situation helped urge me to travel,” I said.

I laughed as I sipped from my glass. "Now, was it the urge to find a wife, or to run away as quickly as possible before the patronly hand came to settle on your shoulder for 'that discussion'," I asked, swirling my wine.

“It was after several unsubtle talks and introductions from both parents,” I said, chuckling.

I groaned in understanding. "Ah yes, the introductions. 'Balta, I would like you to meet Sophia, her family has been friendly to ours for generations, make her feel at home,'" I recounted with a chuckle and shake of my head. "I love my parents, always will, but sometimes they can be rather... singleminded in their pursuits for what is 'best'."

“Try having to avoid this one ‘Eduardo, Princessa Marie de la Martina con Harvana is coming to see you. Her family has pure Aragonian bloodlines back as far as ours and marrying her will unite our families once again like they were nine generations back and her dowry will add a winery, 100 horses, 5000 gold ducats and 200 acres of fertile land to our family’s holdings.’ I faced situations like that twice a month,” I told him.

I laughed, shaking my head and bowing it. "I would not wish to be in your shoes, Eduardo," I chuckled. "But surely, surely they will go through so many that there will be not a princessa left to offer up to you," I said with a smile, "that is surely something to look forward to. Though, did you ever entertain any of their 'suggestions'," I said with a wry smile, using the term loosely.

“One has to be careful not to be too entertaining to Aragonian Princessas,” I said, smiling. “You know how it’s not as open as here, and it would be cruel to get one of their hopes up.”

I nodded, solemnly. "Very true, very true indeed. Do you think you might bring home a d'Angeline on your arm instead?" I asked with a wry grin. I knew that was what my father had hoped for me.

“Oh no,” I said, shaking my head. “The only unattached d’Angeline Princess is Coretta and she’s not for me. Besides, my family doesn’t need ties with Terre d’Ange, I am certain to be used for other bonds.”

"Ah, yes, Coretta... now that Bella has been ... married off," I said as I ran a hand through my locks. "It must be difficult, the concept that you don't completely have a say in who you marry," I said with a frown, "even it seems, the royalty here has the same problem, despite their sacred precept," I said with a sigh. "How do you cope?"

“You run off to a neighboring land and teach,” I said with a laugh, then took another drink of wine.

I joined in his laughter, shaking my head with an overdramatic sigh and a swig from my glass. "I am not so sure that is the greatest way to cope. It is one thing to run to a land, but another entirely to run to one full of gorgeous, intelligent women, taken and not taken, who love and give of themselves with a great deal of freedom. With the wrong mindset that could definitely be an issue," I said with a chuckle.

“Then it is a good thing I don’t have the wrong mindset,” I replied, wondering at him so openly questioning my actions. “Only a person with no control will give into any woman just because they offer.”

"Very true," I said with a smile. "Mayhap it's just me. I find myself... my senses just ... a tad overwhelmed," I said with a chuckle. "I, too, exercise self-control but betimes," I said looking around the shop. A lone woman stood looking at a selection of red wines, her dress hugging her every curve, long dark locks flowing down their backs. I understood. It was how the women had felt about me back in Aragonia. The "Cordovan Angel". I shook my head. "Betimes it is almost too tempting." I took another drink from my wine. "But, I must say, almost everyone I have met so far has been kind and welcoming."

“Fair enough,” I agreed with a chuckle.
I finished my glass of wine and then stood. “I should let you get back to running your business,” I said with a smile. I laid enough coin on the bar to cover the wine I’d had and a little more. “Thank you very much for indulging my homesickness, I am certain I will back taking advantage of your kindness again.”

I smiled up at him as he placed his coin on the table, and I was ready to tell him it was on me, but then to rebuff could seem an insult. The next time it would be on me, I promised myself. I nodded and bowed my head to him. "It was a pleasure. And please, do come back, I don't mind being taken advantage of once in a while," I said with a chuckle. "May you be kept well, Eduardo."
