"Alright sis," I said, stepping forward and taking over doing up her gown. "Here, I've had lots of practice helping my Housemates." It took but a moment to lace her up properly where she had been straining to do it herself. When I got a look at her in it, I whistled.

I lifted my head so that I could look in the mirror. The dress was perfect, as if it had been made for me. There was not one thing that I would have to alter. My fingers lightly trailed over the skirts. I looked like a different person. If only I could feel like one too.
“It’s beautiful,” I said softly.

"It certainly is," I agreed with a soft smile. "And you're beautiful."

“It’s all the dress,” I said, turning just a little so I could see it from the side.

"Trust me Marie. It's not all the dress," I said, smiling still.

I glanced at him in the mirror, wondering if he was just being kind.
“Truly?” I asked softly.

I raised my right hand. "Kushiel take me if I lie. You've grown into a very beautiful woman sister," I told her with a smile as my hand was lowered again.

I looked at myself in the mirror again, wondering if it was true. Was I very beautiful or was Christophe's opinion influenced by the fact that he was my brother?
"Thank you," I said. I turned my back to him again. "Will you unlace me?"

My fingers made quick work of the laces. It was, after all, something I had a lot of practice in. "So you like these three then?" I asked

“I do. This blue one is the one I like the most though. I’d like to get this one if it’s alright,” I said, holding the dress to me to keep it from falling as he undid the laces.

"Of course. Why not all three though?" I asked with a crooked smile.

My head came up with surprise. “All three? Oh no, that’s too much. I couldn’t possibly. Besides, I’m going to be lucky to have a place to wear this one, much less all three,” I said.

I merely chuckled. "Marie, you're going to be in the City for at least a season. Longer if you wish to stay after the wedding. You'll have places to wear them all, I promise."

“But still, all three is too much Christophe,” I said, a little overwhelmed at the idea.

"Think of it as a natale gift or three. It would be one thing if you didn't like them. But you do, so let me treat you," I replied. "Besides, look at it this way. I'm a fully marqued adept of the Night Court. Mala is a lady of one of the most well known families in the realm. You're going to have opportunities that you didn't before, and I want you well dressed for them."

After a moment of thinking on his words, I nodded.
“Thank you very much,” I said, smiling softly.

I smiled, then leaned in and kissed her cheek. "You are more then welcome. I'll get them to wrap these up while you change," I said, taking the two gown that she had already tried on and heading to the little table the shopkeeper had set up for these things.

I looked at the mirror again, seeing what I looked like in the blue dress once more before I took it off. Even with the laces undone it was magnificent. I looked at myself though. Perhaps I was beautiful, enough so even to find a place here in the City.
I removed the dress and hung it up before donning the dress I’d worn in. I carried the blue dress out to where Christophe was dealing with the shopkeep. I laid the dress with the others and before I stepped to the side, I touched Christophe’s softly, gratefully and smiled up at him.

I drew her into a one armed hug as the shopkeeper wrapped up the blue dress. We had spoken about payment and delivery while Marie was getting dressed, so now we just had to wait a moment until the last gown was ready. "What would you like to do now?" I asked Marie, looking down at her with a smile.

I nodded, happy more than I could say that she leaned into the hug. "I did indeed. What sort of atmosphere are you in the mood for? Upscale, always entertaining, always entertaining for the wrong reasons, quiet...?"

I smiled. "I have just the place in mind then," I said with a smile. The clerk was done, so I thanked her and gathered up the bundles. It meant that I had to let go of Marie, but I couldn't let her carry them. "Shall we?" I asked her with a grin.
