I chuckled again. It seemed I was actually getting along with Olga, for her to be making jests, and I was very glad for it. I didn't have many friends in the City.
"You're very kind," I said with a smile, and let the assistant lead me to a little room in the back. A few minutes later, I came back out for inspection. I hadn't seen myself in the glass yet, but the fabric moved around my ankles like a soft breeze.

I was not one given toward falsehood but even I had to admit it was lovely. "That is a good color for you," I told her as I walked around her a bit to see the profile. "It fits nicely and doesn't cling too closely for the cut, I think. It would be easy to take up if it is too long as well."

I moved in front of the mirror as Olga looked me over. The gown was perfect. Simple, elegant, and befitting my rank.
"That it has your approval means a lot," I admitted with a smile as the attendant watched silently from the sidelines, obviously sensitive to our conversation. "Trying to find summer gowns has certainly been a challenge for me. I love this one. Thank you so much for pointing it out to me."

"You are welcome- I am glad my eye for clothing is still of some use here," I replied with a smile and a nod. "These clothiers certainly have a variety I am proud to look on."
I still had my own gown looped over my arm and I hoped it would look as lovely on me as the Princessa's did on her.

"Well, that's one settled. I'll be back out in just a moment," I told her with a smile, heading back into the change room. Soon enough I was back in my own clothes and asking the attendant to pack up the green gown as we came back out.

Smiling to see she was so happy with the gown I watched for a moment, willing to wait until she was done before I tried on my own gown.

"It is all yours, your highness," I said with satisfied smile when I saw Olga again.

"thank you," I replied with a respectful nod before ducking into the changing room, where another attendant waiting. I patiently handed her the gown and then waited for my gown to be taken off and the new one to be put on. It was a quicker process than I imagined and it was only about ten or fifteen minutes later that I stepped out of the changing room, smoothing down the fabric and feeling the way it accented the curve of my waist but hid the lines of the hips.

I smiled when I saw her in the gown. "What do you think?" I asked her.

"It's nice- the fabric has been handled well," I replied, examining the brocade. "It was not rushed through. How do you think it looks?"

"I think it's absolutely lovely. You'll certainly give the Queen a run for her money," I said with a jesting smile. Then on a more serious note, "And I believe my cousin would like you in it as well."

"The Queen dresses very differently from what I do," I replied with a wry smile. "But it is good to hear that you like it and that your cousin may."

"Yes, I have noticed that," I said with a smile. "I don't mean to pry, but I do not know your brother Alexei very well. Will they be happy together, do you think?"

I knew I would have to answer that question very carefully- if I gave the wrong answer I knew Alexei would be upset at me. "They seem to be very happy together," I replied sensibly. "That is the most we are to hope for, yes?"

"Of course," I said with a soft smile. Though Olga had paused as if to stop herself from saying the first thing that came to mind, I had a sense of her that even after thinking about them, her words weren't lies. "It always makes me happy to see happiness in the relationships of others. A little envious perhaps, but happy."

"I wish I knew her a bit better- she will be my sister- but she does not seem very interested in meeting us," I replied sedately, as though it didn't really bother me though my words indicated the truth of it. "But I know she must be a busy woman."

"A shame she doesn't take the time out of her schedule for her fiancé's family," I commented quietly as I circled around her to take in her gown from all angles. It really was very beautiful, though I was not envious of her as it did not fit my personal style.

"She is a ruler, it must take a great deal of energy," I replied sedately though my eyes showed some humor. "It is why we leave it to the men in Ruskovia, so women can pursue more graceful hobbies."

I ducked my head to hide a smile at her words. "It is much the same in Aragonia. We can inherit, but we usually leave the management of the estate to our husbands."

"We do not inherit in Ruskovia- a woman may only hold title as regent to her son if no other suitable male is present," I commented. "But it leaves more time for families, yes? I was never away from my brothers and sisters."

"I was taught that it is the goal to which every woman should ascribe," I agreed with a nod, turning a bit in the mirror and finally admiring the image before me.

"Then I would hazard an opinion and say that you have been taught well," I said with a soft smile as she regarded her reflection in the glass.

"And yourself as well," I replied, coiling my hair over my shoulder quickly to turn and look at the back of the dress. "It seems that no one else here is the same way except us."
