When the food arrived, I almost drooled I was so hungry. I managed to control myself, however, while the servants set everything out and then left the room. While Sarielle poured herself some wine, I loaded my plate with more food than it should be legal for one person to eat. When Sarielle asked me how I liked the room, I already had a mouthful of stew.
I chewed and swallowed quickly, then poured myself a glass of wine as well, downing it quickly. Honestly, I was glad for the easy topic, hoping that she wouldn't wish to discuss anything more serious.
"It's fine." I said, wiping my mouth with a napkin. "Big, actually." I felt like I should say more, but what? "I like the furniture." I like the furniture? Really?
"Maybe tomorrow I can have the full tour." I said, before taking another, smaller bite of food.

I watched as she served herself a heaping amount. She must have been utterly famished. It made me smile though. Sometimes a warm meal really helped to work out tension.
"I am glad you like it. You know, if there is some sort of personal touch you want to add to it, it is yours to do as you like. Just... no holes in the floor," I said with a chuckle. "And yes, of course. I figured you might want to rest tonight before going through the house room by room." I took myself a small bowl of stew, and some of the buttered bread with cubes of cheese. "Do you think you will want for clothing once your things arrive?" I asked, taking a spoon of the stew and chewing it.

I stuffed a bite of cheese in my mouth before responding. "I'm not one for interior decorating." I shrugged. "As long as I have the basics, I'm fine." Another bite, and I pondered her question about clothes. "That depends. I have plenty of day dresses, several riding dresses, and some nightdresses. If we're going to be going to any fancy parties, I might need to get some evening wear." The superficiality of the conversation was finally allowing me to relax as I realized there would be no awkward questions or heart to hearts tonight.

I pondered on what she said as I watched her ease into conversation. Trivial, yes, but it was a start.
"Well, the City is known for fetes. Mayhap the next time one comes around and you wish to go, I can show you some rather decent shoppes and seamstresses. I was thinking on having a fete in the next few months, maybe more. But I am sure something will come up earlier than that," I said, finishing with a bite of cheese and bread, swallowing and taking another spoon of the stew. Looking to the side I eyed the sweets. I had always had a sweet tooth, and these were my favourites.

I wasn't sure if I was interested in going to fetes, but it wasn't something I wanted to argue about so I simply nodded and continued to eat. I had only eaten about half of the food on my plate when I noticed the pastries. I also noticed Sarielle looking at them. I didn't know how she felt, but I loved sweets. Pushing away my plate, I reached for one.
Blessed Elua, but that was good! Sarielle's cook was very talented. "This is delicious!" I exclaimed, licking my fingers. I had to fight back a sudden yawn, but I really wanted to finish my dessert before I ended up facedown in my dinner.

I watched as she pushed the main meal aside, as if reading my mind, and delved into the honey soaked sweets. I smiled, taking a few for myself. "They are my utmost favourite. They are a Kritian delicacy." I saw her yawn and knew she was sleepy. "If you wish, you can take a plate up to your room. You do look rather tired."

I realized suddenly that I had been staring at my sticky fingers for several moments and that Sarielle was speaking to me. I put my hand over my mouth to stifle a yawn.
"I'm sorry, I didn't sleep much on the way over, I'm more tired than I thought."
I rubbed my tired eyes and sighed. "I don't think I need to bring any food with me; I'm too tired to eat anymore anyway. Thank you, though."

I nodded in understanding. "Riding a horse alone from Kusheth can do that to you," I said with a wry smile. "Go to sleep, and if you want for anything, let it be known and it will be yours," I said with a soft smile. "I'll have the rest of the food put away that it might be nibbled on if you wake peckish in the night. You'll find them here in the kitchen." I wanted to rise and walk over to hug her, give her the warm welcome I knew she deserved, but I didn't want to strain the truce quite yet. I smiled as warmly as I dared, and resolved to stay in the dining room. My mind was abuzz with thoughts that would not allow me to sleep. Not yet. "Good night, Naia" I murmured.

I rose, albeit a bit unsteadily. "Thank you, Sarielle. I'm certain I won't wake until tomorrow." I smiled tiredly, filching one last pastry to eat on the way up to my room. "Tomorrow you can give me the tour..." I said again, before leaving the dining room and heading up the stairs.
I found my room with little trouble, finished my pastry, and lay down on the bed, curling up under the covers. The bed was even more comfortable than my bed at home, and even though so many feelings and emotions were buzzing through my mind, I was asleep in moments, sticky fingers and all.
