Raising my chin slightly, I tried to sound more reassuring, "I believe that everyone has the strength to handle whatever life throws at them. There is always a way."
After the words left my mouth I realized that I might be delving into the mysteries of Gentian; a place that I had always been frightened by. I would never admit it, of course.

"Yes, I'm sure..." I trailed off, feeling my mask of confidence and security melt away. I desperately wanted to change the subject, for I was sure I was making this young woman uncomfortable as well. I hadn't the fondest idea of what to chat about with a former Gentian adept....

"Hmmm," I thought a moment and sipped more of my tea. "Well we could talk about the weather, but that would be quite boring, wouldn't it? I've only known the sort of weather this region and City get. Have you ever been outside of the city?"

“Yes, but not that I can remember. I was born elsewhere, but I don’t recall most of my life before coming to Gentian. This is really all I know,” I said, gesturing to the City around us.
