"No, nothing in particular, just a few things for the house," I said, smiling. "Besides a painting is there anything you are shopping for?"

I shook my head. "No, I'm in the same boat. My sister thought I should have some things of my own for my room, so I'm looking around." I shrugged. "I'm honestly not sure what else I need besides a bed and an armoire, and I already have both of those." I considered all of the sculptures surrounding us. "Although I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have something nice to look at. Maybe something smallish." I held my hands apart to show the size I meant, roughly six inches. I laughed suddenly, realizing that that was the third thing I'd expressed interest in over the last several minutes. "I guess I do have some idea what I want."

I laughed along with her. "Sometimes it's nice to only have some idea of what you want, it leaves you open to finding surprises instead of being disappointed when you can't find exactly what you want," I said, smiling. I looked around at the store. "This is an awfully big and full store, I bet you can find at least one thing here."

I nodded in agreement. "I think so too." I leaned in conspiratorially and whispered, "I'm tempted to get that one," I pointed at the giant phallus, "just to see what my sister would say." I laughed lightly, then paused. Speaking of my sister, I wondered where she had gotten off to. Well, no matter, I was sure she would find me sooner or later. "Hmm, well, it appears that I shall have to find something I like, or she'll wonder where I've gone off to with her money."

“Is she here with you?” I asked, glancing around again and then out the front windows, not wanting to get Sophine in trouble by keeping her if she was supposed to be elsewhere.

"Well, we started out together, but I appear to have lost track of her." I shrugged. "I'm sure she'll find me sooner or later, if only to have someone to carry her packages."

“You’re making me grateful I’m an only child,” I said, chuckling. “What shall we look at next?”

"Well, having playmates is one thing, but much older sisters who are bossy is quite another." I made a face, but was quick to smile again. "Then again, she's giving me money and my own room, so I suppose I can't complain too terribly."
I paused, tapping my index finger against my lips. "What to look at next? Good question." Looking to the right, I noticed a row of statues of religious figures. "What about those?" There was Elua, of course, and His Companions. I wandered over and picked up one of Cassiel. "The workmanship on these is amazing." I said, holding it out for Raegan's inspection.

I followed her and looked at the statue she held. “Oh, those are wonderful,” I agreed. Instantly my eyes searched the display for Kushiel and found him. I tried to hide the shiver that danced along my spine at the sight of him, rod and weal in hand. “I think I’ll have to have one of these as well.”

"Which one though?" I mused out loud, replacing Cassiel. My brother was a Cassiline, but I didn't know him well enough to want a memento. Naamah, for my childhood dreams of being an adept? I was drawn to Eisheth, oddly enough. I'd never had designs on being a healer, but the statue just seemed comforting somehow. Besides, though Kusheth seemed like home to me, Eisande was my birthplace. I reached for the statue and ran my fingers over it. "This is perfect." I showed it to Raegan, and smiled, pleased that I'd found something just right. "Which do you like?"

“Kushiel,” I said instantly, then blushed a little at my seeming eagerness. “For my home.” my explanation likely did little to help but at least it was something.
“I am getting quite a collection of things, I should probably get a clerk,” I said, still feeling a little embarrassed.

I nodded when she chose Kushiel, after all, she was from Kusheth too. I might have chosen him myself, only I found him rather intimidating, and that wasn't something I needed right now. When she mentioned getting a clerk, I immediately looked around, but didn't see anyone who stood out.
"I wonder where they're hiding..." I said, smiling.

“I don’t know,” I said, then caught sight of someone toward the back and motioned to him. He nodded and began heading our way.
“Do you want to look around more or are you done here?” I asked her with a smile, feeling myself recovering and grateful for her not pursuing my moment of embarrassment as most others I had met in the City would have.

"No, I think I have what I need. I'm not much of a shopper." I answered, clutching my statue of Eisheth as if it might wander off any moment. "How about you?" I asked, as the clerk approached.

“I think I’m done here,” I said, smiling. “Though I don’t think I’m done for the day yet.”
The clerk arrived and I pointed out the two statures and the set of tables I wanted. He wrote everything down before focusing on Sophine.

I held up my statue. "Just this." I realized that I had no idea how much it was going to cost, and I hoped my sister had given me enough. The purse she'd handed me when we left the townhouse was fairly weighty; more money than I'd ever had to myself before, but who knew how expensive things were in the City?
Luckily, the cost was within my means, and I avoided the extreme embarrassment of having to find my sister and ask for more money. When Raegan mentioned not being done for the day, I was interested in the other shops as well. "Would you mind terribly if I tagged along for a bit?"

I settled up with the clerk and arranged to have everything delivered.
“Not at all,” I said, smiling at Sophine. “I’d love to have the company. Shall we head to the Artist’s Guild, maybe find you that painting?”

"That sounds perfect." I thought a nice painting would really do the trick for my room, along with my new statue. Maybe I could make Dyan's house feel like home. "Lead the way," I smiled, "since I don't know where anything is yet. I'd hate to get us lost!"

“Now the pressure is on me not to get us lost,” I said with a laugh as I began to wind my way back to the front door.

I followed her, smiling widely. "Well, I suppose getting lost wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. It's a good way to discover new places."

“True, but there’s always the trying to find your way back that can be a problem,” I said with a laugh.
