Uruz's attention was distracted by the group handling Odette in a less than acceptable fashion. I watched as he made a quick attack, disabling three of them quickly. I had stood up, but it was obvious Uruz had the upper hand. I stood by and watched, though if for some reason things changed and he did need help i would step in.

From the corner of my vision I witnessed the first strike, ducking to avoid the crash of the chair upon my head as Uruz saw to my freedom. The shock and pain splintering through the man had ensured my escape, which I took in rushing from the limping arms of my once captor.
Everything happened so quickly from that point on. Before I could slip my hand inside the hidden pocket in my garment, grasping and drawing the small knife from its protective encasing, Uruz had dropped two more of the surly men. I stood on the ready, as my father had taught me, in case somewhat more happened. In that moment, I had no awareness of how badly my hand was shaking that held the gifted knife.
I glanced quickly over at Eyvind to be assured of his presence should matters spiral out of control then returned my gaze on the crumbled men on the floor. One man still had a hold on the world, and seemed to be pondering his next move. If he had any intelligence at all, he would stumble away and lick his wounds, thanking the Gods for his life later. The fellow had other plans though.
I watched in horrid fascination as the man attempted to quickly gain his footing for an attack on Uruz. Uruz had strength behind him, bulk that would make him slower on the take. His attacker had nearly had his wits permanently removed, and mayhap was half drunk at the moment, but that did nothing to stop him from preparing to lunge at Uruz.
I was neither of those things though I could move swiftly, due to my size and I had a weapon. Before I knew it...I was in action, quickly and somewhat efficiently I stepped between the men, brandishing the point of my knife at the hallow of the man’s neck.

I saw Odette glance back at me before she made her move. She stepped inbetween the two men, her knife at the throat of the idiot. While the two of them could easily take on the one, hell one of them could, I still moved in shadow for a better reach of the situation. One never knew how a person would react or if he had friends hiding in the shadows.
I would let the two of them take care of things though, if they stayed as they were.

Odette had produced a dagger from who knows where and stepped between me and the other fellow. Truth be told I would have probably taken a couple blows before I could have fallen the lout but that is nothing to worry about. The fellow stopped and seemed to be considering options with a blade at his throat like it was and the room had grown very quiet. A D’Angeline might call what I did next cheating but I was never under the impression there were rules in such a matter so I simply reached over Odette’s shoulder and punched the fellow right between the eyes and was greeted with the satisfying sensation as well as sound of a nose breaking.

When a massive fist pound into the lummox, crushing flesh and bone alike in the center of his face, I stood slightly vexed for having naught scared the man away with my tiny blade but I was grateful for the assistance none the less. Thanks the Gods for Uruz and his companion, Eyvind.
Blood split a course down the fellow’s lips as he swayed this way and that. He seemed to stand erect for an eternity before he groaned and crashed against the floor on his back. Within a few heartbeats the noise of the tavern continued, as if nothing had ever been amiss. It was over.
In putting my blade away I noted that my hands were trembling. Had they been doing so the entire time? I did my best to calm them before turning to Uruz. “My thanks for the aid…allow me to get somewhat better for you to drink, in a show of appreciation, as well as somewhat for Eyvind.”
It would cost me a small sum for the drinks though I felt it was worth it. The Gods only knew what would have become of me had the two men not looked out for the other for my safety. I smiled briefly, having drawn my blade for the first time in defense had my nerves a little shaken so I could naught afford much in the way of a smile, and wandered off to the bar too see about their drinks.

Before I answered I looked around the rough and tumble room “While we are at this anyone else feeling brave?” When faces found someplace else better to look I inclined my head to Odette “Your welcome.” I then motioned for Eyvind to rejoin me as I retrieved an intact chair. My victims were pulling themselves together and being helped out.
I rubbed my knuckles a bit and looked to my still frail companion “That was rather invigorating” I said with a smile.

I walked over to where Uruz stood. I smiled wanly and said, "I look forward to the day where I can join in such exercise!" I looked down briefly at my thinned arms and said, "some hard work and meat should help me regain my strength quickly."

I steadied myself against the bar to breathe away the shaking in my hands. With the smug approach of the bar keep, I quickly ordered brandy for each of the men, whilst I settled coin earned by my hand as payment for the drinks.
As before he muttered, though this time it was somewhat about keeping wolves as pets. I paid the bar keep little mind and carried the drinks over to the men, grateful that my hands were now steady.
"For my dashing companions...a drink." I smiled graciously, releasing my hold on the drinks once they had them well in hand.

I looked at Eyvind's emeciated body with a critical eyes "I suspect you will need more time with rest and good food before much exercise." I sighed leaning back in my chair "We were not exactly in the best of shape before the plague hit. Probably part of why you fell ill, but oh well One Eye never promised life to be fair."
I looked up when Odette arrived and accepted the drink "Thank you, was just boys having some sport really." And that was honestly how I felt about it but I was sure she would not understand. In our halls brawling, drinking, and wenching were the mark of a man over a long cold winter.

I sighed deeply, Uruz was right, though I hated to admit it. When one grew up in a world of strength and aggression it was not good to be weak.
I smiled at Odette as she handed me the drink. I had done nothing to deserve it. "Thank you, you are a kind woman and a tough one on top of that. I can see why Uruz gets along with you so well." I smiled to show my thanks and wondered how my weakened body would handle another drink. I was not worried about it, at least Uruz could drag me away if needed. With my low weight he could probably do so without breaking a sweat.

I thought it strange that such an occurrence would be thought as mere sport for Uruz and his companion though I desperately wanted to understand why it was seen as such. I wanted to ask all that I may from each of them, but I suspected that I would look a fool so I would seek answers another time.
Heat crept into my cheeks, flushing them lightly for the comment spoken by Eyvind, “Kind of you to say. My father served as a Chevalier for the noble Houses of Camlach for a length of time, long ago. He taught me a few things before I arrived in the city…for safety.”
With the short explanation, and before I babbled on about my family, I dipped my head gently and smiled to each of them. “Enjoy the drinks. Back to earning a keep for me,” and then I was gone from their presence.

I grunted and smiled to Odette "Hurry back when you can. We will see if we can hang around till you are free for the evening." I watched her go then shifted my attention back to my companion.
"Nothing really to be ashamed of about your current weakness. We will just have to make sure we get you on the mend as soon as possible. I am sure it is very frustrating not being your normal self. Gods know you and I have had more than our fair share of frustrations recently."

I bowed my head toward Odette as she made her way back to her work.
Uruz spoke exactly what was on my mind when he referenced my current state. Though I suspect my disgust had been written on my face. "Yes we have," I said in reference to our frustrations.
Since Uruz had promised to stay till Odette got off I motioned back to our previous table and asked, "want to go and sit back down?"

I grunted in response "We may as well. Do you need some more vitals or are you full. I imagine if yuo try and pack in too much too soon you might founder." I scratched at my beard some as I set things at our table more or less right but it is not like anyone here would ever really notice.
Then settling my bulk I at last asked "So tell me how you came to be alright after I gave you up for gone."

"I am good for now in both food and drink," I told Uruz. In truth I didn't think I could take anymore drink.
I settled into my seat. "Well, I woke up at Balm House under the care of a very nice adept. He told me about the plague but didnt know about you. I figured bars were a good place to learn info. I did small jobs and asked around. I just happened to walk into here and see you."

I nodded "You got really bad and slipped unconscious. There was naught I could do for you and the plague was running through the City. They had set up places where you could take the grievously ill and I took you to one. I assume they are the ones who took you to Balm though how the place could fit anymore in is beyond me."

There were plenty of patrons in the tavern, some opted for drink whilst others declined rather gruffly so, I let them alone and made a few passes of the tavern before returning to the bar, and conversing with the barkeep at length to secure my freedom from the tavern early.

"I don't know how I ended up at Balm," I said honestly, "though I think the adept who was my healer had something to do with it." I thought about it then, speaking out loud though not directly at Uruz. "He did seem to have a fancy for me." I had never thought of another male having feelings for me, since there are no such feelings in Skaldia, or if there are they are kept behind very locked doors.
I blushed a little then and frowned slightly at Uruz, "its a bit strange isn't it." I looked around briefly, though it was a pointless act. "This place is not like home."

I felt my eyes gape wide "The Crow Gutter is as horrified as I am I would reckon. That is a profoundly disturbing thought. I cannot fathom why one man would think of another in a buggering fashion but it seems to be normal here." I shivered and took a deep gulps of my drink "The horror! At least you seem to have recovered and be none the worse for wear for the matter. With those twisted sorts running around hard telling what they could do to you while you were unconscious."

I had not thought of the adept taking advantage of me while I was out cold. He did not seem the type, but one could never know. It did add reason to why such activities were thought of so negatively in Skaldia. Often groups of men spent long amounts of time with each other, preparing for battle and whatnot. It would be a distraction if you were worried about your fellow soldier crawling in your sleeping sack in the middle of the night.
I shook my head a little, "it is the normal here isn't it?" I looked around, wondering at the other men in the tavern. "It is a strange thought to know that any one of these men could be looking at you with a sparkle in his eye."

I groaned "Yes, it is normal here. Makes one wonder how our country has been so inept as to loose to this one for so long. Though I suppose considering this is our home now and it gave us a place to run to when things got bad we should be thankful." I took another swig of my drink "Though One Eye might throw us all into Hel's Hall for such weakness."

I had my fill of adventure for the day, at least from the likes of this tavern, and was pleased to know that I had met the need of the barkeep, thus enabling me to leave before due time.
Speaking my thanks to the ill natured man, earning a familiar grunt for my politeness, I separated myself from the bar to join the men. I smiled to them both, dancing the tips of my fingers across the broadness of Uruz’s shoulders before massaging them gently.
“I’m finished here. Shall I settle in with the pair of you or wander into the market to pick up something for the lot of us too eat, leave you to stir up tales together whilst I prepare a meal for us all to enjoy a little later?”

I leaned my head back and looked up at Odette “We were just going to settle Eyvind in at the spare room in my forge. It is a lot warmer and more comfortable there than the street. Though I am not sure if he can eat anymore at this point” I looked at him in question before carrying on. “I do not mind you tagging along in the least. It is probably best after the dust up anyway. One never knows when someone with a bruised ego might lay in wait.”

The strange thing about having ate so little food recently is that one's body doesn't know when it is full. I always felt hungry, but knew better than to give into it. I thought of the soup and the bread. Not a meal fit for kings, but one that would normally be quite filling. Granted I needed a little meat on my bones, but over eating would simply make me look soft, not strong. I had known enough engorged Skaldi's to understand this.
"I will be good for tonight," I said with a smile of thanks. "Something to drink without liquor in it will be all I'll ask." Thirst was one thing I did not ignore.

Thoughtfully I nodded to Uruz. “Yes…’tis best for me to remain with the pair of you. I’ll naught be much a bother or distraction.” I grinned sheepishly then set my focus on Eyvind.
“I wish that I could offer somewhat more than the forge for your lodging, Eyvind. I’ve plenty of warmth in my bed, during the evenings, to suit me.” The heat rose in my cheeks, enough to add a touch of color to them as I gently squeezed Uruz’s shoulder then patted them in the same manner.
“Well then…shall we take our leave?”

I peered up at Odette as she spoke and smirked a little then rose “Maybe we can get you some supplies to have on hand to eat when you feel the need? Something light that will not give you the runs and there is water at the forge but we can pick up whatever else sounds best to you.”
I looked at Odette “I am open to any suggestions you might have I am not much at playing nurse maid.” I did not mean my words disparagingly as I was all but useless when it came to nursing someone back to health.

I noticed Odette's blush, which was cute in itself, but it surprisingly brought on a ping of jealousy. Jealousy for what? Surely not for Odette, I had just meet her. I have never been one to just fall head over heals for a girl without spending some real time with her. Surely not for Uruz, why would I feel jealous that he has someone to lie with? I should be glad for him. I told myself that I was glad for him and pushed the thoughts out of my mind.
I smiled at them both, "It is ok, the forge will suit me just fine. It is better than a smelly barn or a few of the other places I have slept recently." I thought on Uruz's offer for food. Something that would keep and not upset my stomach. "Some fresh water and flat bread would be good enough for the night and not bother me."
For some reason an image of Uruz standing over someone came to mind. Him acting just as an old nurse made would, tottering around and looking concerned. I could not help but to laugh a little. "Uruz, you have been a friend for a long time, but I think I would rather you at my side as a warrior than as my maid."

I hesitantly removed my hands from atop Uruz’s shoulders, knowing if I had left them to lay idle over his broadness of them, I would be enticed into kissing him fully upon the lips and lowly pleading into his ear to have his way with me before much longer.
Saving some grace, I tucked my hands at the lowest section of my back and smiled at Eyvind. “I would pleased to see as much to your health as possible. Water and a light bread would treat your stomach well. We’ll progressively build up your tolerance for food and drink. I promise to have you eating a hearty meal soon.”

I smiled warmly at Odette, "that you, you are most kind. I can see why Uruz likes you so much." I felt it again, that little twinge of jealousy. Thankfully I had learned to keep my feelings inside, it was a good practice for when one is fighting. I did just wake up from an illness. Maybe it explains my feelings. I decided that must be it and pushed them aside more easily.
With the help of my best friend and his friend I would be better soon and feel like my old self. I would not be like this forever.

"Sounds like that settles it then" I said and I then stood up taking stock of the room in case any of our troublesome companions from earlier were about. "We can make a stop to procure what we need and then head to the forge." I felt a keen sense of relief at the way things were shaping up at this point. For the first time in a long while I had those I could depend on near and the future did not seem so uncertain. Not wondering where your next meal was coming from does much to improve humor.
