The Chat d'Écaille - After the Fair

"We've always spent most of the year here. I don't think I'll be going to Moulins for a while," I replied. "What about you, city or country boy?"

“We have the family estate and I spend time there but truth be known it is my sister’s. So I tend to stick to the City as much as anything.” Hey I did that well I sounded light and not the least bit bitter. Perhaps after wounds age they are not quite so painful.

He tensed every time he mentioned his sister, not a big surprise. It was rumoured that they were normally at odds. "Do you attend court much while you are here?" I asked, steering toward other topics.

I smiled “I attend the Hall of Games more relieving the unworthy of their purses. Not exactly wholesome but it is a living.” It was a rather blunt statement but it was mostly the truth.

"You play a mean hand of cards then?" I asked, not really fazed by his words. They weren't exactly surprising after all.

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

"On occasion of course luck has a bit to do with it as often as not. They have yet to develop a totally fail proof system."

[Lillianne Prévost]

We started down a path underneath a row of trees, a wonderfully green canopy. "I suppose that's for the best. Otherwise it would be a science and not a game," I said with a smile.

I smiled back “Ah but science is not all bad because I do not do it as a game but as a means of income. It is not much but it is less I find myself depending on my sister for and that is a good thing. The fruits are not terribly sweet for those who do not inherit titles.”

"Does she not give you enough of an allowance?" I asked with a knit brow as we walked arm in arm.

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

“Not really not to mention it is more than a little bit vexing at my age to have to eg my sibling for crumbs from the table. It is less distasteful to manage on my own hook as best I can and keep the pleadings to a bare minimum.”

I nodded. "I feel as if I should apologize. I've only ever been an only child."

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

I chuckled and patted her back "Apologize for what? Having had more luck in the sibling department than I did? That is hardly your fault."

[Lillianne Prévost]

"My parents had always wanted more children, but only I arrived," I said, feeling my thoughts turn inward and fighting against it. "Probably for the best, I don't know what my uncle would have done with more than just me."

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

I inclined my head and did not comment on how I thought lack of sibblings might not be a bad thing. "Well I have found things tend to turn out one way or another. Generally not the way one would like to but in the end with some luck in a way one can live with if they have to."

"That's a rather cynical way of looking at things," I commented.

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

I smiled "Mayhap" I looked at her then "but tell me have you ever had even something very good happen to you in exactly the way you imagined? So in the end it ends up being simply what you can live with."

"Perhaps your imagination is just to fantastical," I teased, bumping my hip with his.

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

I bumped my hip back against hers and then gave her behind a small swat letting my hand linger there for a moment. "Now tell me Lillianne how can anyone immagine anything too fanciful?"

[Lillianne Prévost]

My brow furrowed. "Too far Mathieu. I'm not a horse," I told him quite plainly.

I quirked a brow "Fair enough you have my apologies."

[Lillianne Prévost]

"Thank you," I said, not flinching under his amused gaze. We then continued to walk in silence for a moment, as my brain searched for a topic that would let me relax once more.

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

I remained silent and let her gather herself. Very well there was the line and I had crossed it though I had intended my actions as playful.

[Lillianne Prévost]

"So are you planning on moving out once you reach majority?" I asked, finally coming up with something as he remained unhelpful at my side.

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

"Probably not, it is my family's holdings after all and I am a part of that even if a small part." I tilted my head and looked at her "So what are your plans for when you reach that particular time?"

[Lillianne Prévost]

"I'm going to travel," I said with a smile.

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

“To anyplace in particular?” I asked thankful the subject seemed to be back on more firm footing. Though I also had to confess I rather liked the little bumps she gave with her hip. It displayed a possible bit of talent.

[Lillianne Prévost]

"Anywhere," I said, smiling still at the thought of future travels. "Aragonia, Carthage, Tiberium, Alba..."

[Mathieu L'Envers de Montegue]

I smiled a bit “Ambitious or mayhap easily bored or possibly a combination of the two. Not enough excitement around home to keep you honest?”

[Lillianne Prévost]

"I've lived here my entire life. I would even be happy traveling around Terre d'Ange. As long as it was something different from the City or Moulins," I replied, thinking about it. "I suppose bored is one description."

I smiled and gently rubbed her back taking care to make it a caress and hopefully not impede on her sensibilities. Elua but this one was making me struggle to work the charm though I challenge was more than a little bit appreciated “Mayhap you should find something to keep you amused until you can travel.”
