Still smiling, I closed my eyes. I inhaled the scents of flowers and grass and LaValle and felt the safest and happiest I had ever felt in my life.
Finally, I opened my eyes and looked at LaValle. "That would be wonderful, wouldn't it?"

Smiling wryly I said, "Yes it would."
I looked at the flower wreath I had made, colors and petals blending in a flurry of light and texture. I sat her up for a moment and placed it carefully on her head, then lay her back down gently so as not to crush the flowers. Running my hands through her masses of hair I leaned down and gave her a kiss on the forhead, soft and sweet.

I was careful not to crush the flowers, thinking that I would take them home and find a way to dry them and keep them forever.
Then his lips were pressed against my forehead and I was gripped by another bold impulse. I cupped my hand around the back of his neck and move his lips to mine. I kissed him, soft and lingering.

Her hands were at the back of my neck, gently pulling my mouth to hers; I bit back a moan as our lips met. I slowly ran my tongue across her lips before pulling back enough to whisper, "Are you sure you can't stay here forever?"

"Unfortunately, I think they would come looking for me," I said, trailing my finger along the line of his jaw. "In fact I am surprised they haven't already. I was supposed to be dealing with some family matters today, but I had to see you first."

It was my turn to lean my head into her hand. "I'm honored that you place visiting me so high, especially since....the event..." I couldn't make myself say it any more clearly, it was too much to think about. Too much in my soft, sensitive little world stood to change. Besides, I wouldn't want to upset her.

I could see the upset in LaValle's eyes at even a vague mention of the attacks and it struck me suddenly how awful it must be for someone so sweet. I wanted to reassure him that everything would be fine and of my faith in Sabrina, but again I was at a loss to express myself.
I pulled myself up so that I was sitting beside him, but facing him. "All I could think of this morning was how quickly I could get here to see you," I said, softly. Then I leaned in and kissed him again.

With one arm bracing me to sit I leaned toward her and put a hand on her neck and kissed her in return. There was the insistent voice at the back of my head, but now an expected and easily drowned-out companion, urging me to do what I liked, that no one would see us sheltered here.
Quickly I ignored that voice; it's suggestions would betray too many people, myself among them. Instead I kissed her face all over. "Well you have brightened by day, and for that I am in your debt."

"And you have brightened my day as well," I said, grinning like a fool. A happy, joyful fool.
"I hope to find time soon to visit you again. I hope I am not keeping you from your duties here, if it ever happens that you have something else to attend to first please just tell me. I promise not to be offended and to come back when you are free," I said, letting my fingers trail down his arm. "I would like to find a way to spend another whole night here, if that is something you would like as well."

I blushed, my eyes shining. "My duties here are mostly herding children and caring for the garden; Adin, a fellow adept, sometimes works with me and I think he would be kind enough to take over if he wasn't busy and you came to see me. Plus, I think the flowers like to hear us talk."
Her hand trailed down my arm and left a trail of shivers and goosebumps. "And all of my nights are free for you asking," I answered quietly, moving my hand to cup her face and meaning every word.

"I am going to have give tribute at Namaah's temple, for surely it was her hand that guided me to you," I leaned in and kissed him again. My body sang with the taste and feel of him and thoughts of more than just kissing filled my mind.
Before I could follow those thoughts, I heard Shylah barking a soft greeting and looked up to see her bounding towards the courtyard. There was only one person around she would be greeting so, and my thought was confirmed as I heard a familiar voice.
"Your highness?" called Devan, his voice low but carrying.
"I'm sorry," I said, caressing LaValle's cheek. "The outside world seems to have found me."
Turning my head towards the courtyard I answered, "I'll be right there, Devan."

I looked into her eyes and heard Shylah bound off, then the voice call for Leyna. Letting my hand trail down her arm I squeezed her hand, then turned. "Whenever you are here the real world can stop. I'll be waiting for the next night," I said softly.

"The very first chance I have, I will be here and the world can just wait until I am ready to go back," I said. Then I kissed him again, stealing one last taste of him before jumping up and hurrying to the courtyard.
I didn't want Devan to come looking for me, and I knew if he had come this far it would be important enough for him to come the rest of the way. He stood in the middle of the courtyard, looking very out of his element in a place so filled with shyness and modesty.
"Your highness, forgive me…" he began.
"It's alright," I said, holding up my hand to stop him. "I know you only came in because you had to. Let's finish this outside."
He nodded and headed back out. I cast one last glance back towards where I had left LaValle before following Devan out, Shylah right beside me.

I watched her go, then brushed myself off and took a deep breath. Surely the world was waiting for me as well; I looked once more at our sheltered glen and made my way out, walking through the gardens to return to my rooms. I trusted her completely; there was no doubt that she would be back. She had said so.
