Lunch after the faire

"You're always missed- and I'm sure your cousin misses you even more when confronted with my barbaric ways," I told her with a grin. "Sabrina and I were just chatting about current hobbies and a cousin of mine who's staying at the Palace. Is your new friend settled?"

“He is indeed, all fed and sleeping,” I said, smiling. “Which cousin?”

[Nicanor de las Aragonia]

"Lola, one of the younger ones- only sixteen, as I recall," I said with a smile. "If you'd like we could invite her over for dinner. It seems she needs a good influence like you."

“That would be nice,” I said, smiling. “We could have a little dinner party even.” I wasn’t sure how good an influence I was, but this was not the time.

“Are you both ready for lunch? I’ll call for it if we’re ready.”

"I'm ready," I said eagerly.

I smiled when Leyna entered, giving her a happy grin, then listened to the pair speak before the question of lunch was posed.
"I'm ready, I'm quite famished actually." I chuckled softly.

“Excellent,” I said, going to the pull in the corner and tugging at the hidden bell to signal we were ready.

“Should be just a moment,” I added as I returned to them.

I smiled to Leyna.
"I was telling Nic that you're free to use the palace for your wedding and that its all at your disposal if need be."

“Thank you,” I said, smiling and keeping a tight rein on the unhappy emotions that wanted to surface at the mention of our oft delayed wedding. “I was hoping to have it out at the estate, but I appreciate the offer very much.”

I nodded. I had been hoping that the conversation would lift her spirits, but I wasn't sure I managed to do it or not.
"What are we having my lunch?"

“I’m not sure,” I said, laughing. “I told Anne to arrange for lunch for three, she asked who else was coming, and when I mentioned it was you she ran off to the kitchen shouting orders and that was the last I saw of her.”

I chuckled softly.
"Well I'm sure what ever it is, it will be remarkable."

"Anne can work wonders," I agreed cheerfully. ""I've always been impressed by the ideas she comes up with where cooking is concerned along with other things.

“And yet if you compliment her, she’ll act like it was all so very easy,” I said, chuckling as I went to take my seat at the table.

I chuckled softly and smiled to Leyna as she sat.

Smiling wider I watched Leyna for a moment, resting my hand on hers. "How did your new pet do thus far? Do I have the misfortune of knowing I picked a terribly difficult creature for you?"

“So far he’s been a dream,” I said, smiling. “Once he figured things out, he ate easily then settled down to sleep. I’m sure once we find a nursing mare he’ll be even happier.”

The door opened and servants began to stream in with trays piled high with food. Oh gods, we’d never eat all that….

I smiled to Leyna and the thought of her new pet then chuckled a little as I saw the food come in.
"Are we feeding an army?" I asked chuckling to Leyna.

“Apparently,” I replied, chuckling too as the table was soon covered with delicious looking dishes and the extra set on the sideboard.

"It looks good though." I said with a grin to her.

"In my experience people show their affection for royalty with huge amounts of food," I replied with a smile as I waited for the ladies to serve themselves.

I chuckled softly at Nic's remark.
"Well then, you're staff must love us." I teased looking at Leyna as I began to look at the food and take what I wanted.

“They must,” I agreed with a chuckle and began filling my plate. I took some vegetables and a slice of roast pork to start with.

Taking a roll I split it open and spread it with butter. "It's better than being hated, I'd gather."

“Yes, I suppose it would be,” I said with a laugh before taking a bite of food.

I chuckled too at Nic's comment and began to politely dig into my food. I think I was more hungry then I thought.
"Do you two have plans to travel at all this summer?" I asked before I had scooped some food into my mouth.

“Not that we’ve discussed,” I said between bites. “What about you?”

"I'm thinking about going to the Chateau for some time." I said smiling a bit sadly. "Get away from the city for a bit. You're welcome to come if you wish." I said looking to both Leyna and Nic.

"It would be very relaxing," I said with a raised, suggesting brow toward Leyna. "Besides, I think you'd let yourself get lonely without Leyna to keep you company."

I glanced at Nic. It felt we’d just barely gotten back to the City and it appeared he wanted to leave again.

“I can’t make any plans about going somewhere just yet, I need to make sure that Spot settles in well before I would feel right leaving him. When were you thinking about going, Sabrina?”
