Satisfied with my shopping at the MacDermott's and of my dance promise with Aramis, I felt the tang of hunger in my belly, and remembered the mention of a sweet new place which had the lovely advantage of giving free food and drinks.
Strolling into the Generous Patron (oh, that was a name I liked!), I set my sights on a table at the back, where the scenery would be mine to observe, and ordered the special of the day, chick pea soup and Gratin Dauphinois , some potato dish with melted Azzaleze cheese. I didn’t feel like meat anyway.
I settled in my chair, my sedate beige dress a discreet thing, and took in the view.

It was the night after my assignation with Alain. The top of my back still stung slightly from the marquist's needles, but I didn't care. I had shown my Dowayne, and now enjoyed a little more freedom. And by Elua, I was going to celebrate. Of course, Carmen was busy with a patron, and I hadn't seen Bayard, so I headed out by myself, returning to the Generous Patron, where I had had such luck.
I walked in and looked around subtly, looking for anyone interesting. I found a table near an adept in a beige gown, and smiled at her before the server came over to take my order.

I was picking on my Gratin Dauphinois , a little bit bored, when I noticed an exotic looking adept coming in, visibly in a good mood, and sitting down at the neighboring table with a smile cast in my general direction.
Courtesy be told, I smiled back, and toasted her silently with my drink, a silent invitation to start a conversation, if she wished it so. I was in a playful mood, and a small chuckle tickled my throat in expectation.

It wasn't normally in me to start conversations with random strangers at a tavern, but I was in such a good mood, and she seemed do friendly, that I spoke. "Lovely day isn't it?"

"Indeed, it is," I replied, foregoing for an instant my urge to play. "Though it's turning cloudy, but someone with a happy mind may not be bothered by it. Someone... such as you, perhaps."

I had a feeling only the blind, deaf, and dumb wouldn't be able to see my mood. "Perhaps." I agreed with a mysterious smile.

I winked at her, my grin expanding. "If you don't mind the wasps." Would she take the bait? I wondered.

"I like to rhyme, pro bono," I replied in jest. "That wasn't very good, though."

"Bah. I'm no Eglantine - so sincerely I won't claim to be the poet. I'm Shona Tertignan, Bryony adept, at your service," I responded with a wink.

"Ah well, I have to live with all those waxing poets over at Eglantine, so don't feel too bad." I replied with a small smile to her wink. "It's very nice to meet you Shona. I'm Keaira."

I laughed, "If their rhyming is anything like mine, it's definitely not fine," I shot out !

A hear-felt laughter exploded out of me. What can I say? I like to tease. "Mercy you will have for now - unless you stay at this table and I, at mine. Why don't you join me? Best to drink in company than alone," I suggested.

My drink had arrived as we bantered, and I picked it up and rose. "Alright then." I settled down across from her with the grace I had. "So what brings you here on this day, Shona Tertigan, Bryony adept?"

"Both my legs brought me here, but I came for a small celebration, Keaira nó Eglantine, a small, small celebration. I've had a good day, and I wanted to underline that with a good meal. The fact that it's free does indeed make the sale as well," I added with a wink. "Are you here for the free grub as well?"

"No, that was an unlooked for bonus. I also came to celebrate, though a rather larger one I hope." I took a long pull of my drink. "I finished my marque today."

“Congratulations!” I said as I raised my drink. “I finished mine last month. You don’t look half as in pain as I was though. You haven’t gone to the marquist, yet, have you?”

I shook my head. "No, I've been. I was so close before, I just didn't have enough to finish it on my last visit. And it was a couple of hours ago. I have had time to recover. And belated congratulations, on makin yours." She fairly sparkled in the light of the tavern, drawing all those around her to her.

I gave Keaira a look of increased respect. I had been bed-ridden for several days after my marque had been completed. Then again, the Marquist had found me to be ambitious, to get so much work done in so little time.
“Why thank you, that’s sweet to include me in your celebration. So, what is next? Are you setting about to conquer the fantastic world of ….” It occurred to me I had no idea what her specialty was. “Of Eglantine Arts?” I concluded, my tone cocky and my eye glittering with amusement at my own distraction.

I chuckled. At least she could laugh at herself. "A few years here, build my reputation, and then I'll go take foreign courts by storm." I didn't tell her that I had to stay. That was between the Dowayne and myself.

I chuckled. One thing the Eglantine didn't lack was confidence. I could value that, although her choice of words amused me somewhat. Grinning, I asked her : "Take foreign courts by storm? I didn't know Eglantine House fostered invasion forces. What is your weapon of choice, O mighty Keaira ?"

"I'm sure you have an educated guess by now. You are, after all, Bryony." I gave her a small albeit teasing grin.

If I had had to place a bet on Keaira's house, my initial instinct was to think she would be Jasmine, with her unique combination of foreign features the drive to say so. If she had made her way to Eglantine, she must have had something amazing to her, some talent rare enough to make her invaluable to her house.
She was in good shape, but likely not a dancer. If she was, it wasn't visible in her gait.
Her hands were lovely but did not have hte nimble joints of a clothier or a musician.
She was too well presented to be a painter or a sculptor, too vocal as well.
Her voice was pretty, and her confidence was radiating. I elected poetry and song as the most likely candidates. Besides, she seemed more intellectual than artsy.
"You are a performer of words and song, I wager," I replied assuredly.

It would not have been hard to guess. I chuckled. "I have never had any doubt in a Bryony's choice in a wager."

I smiled wrily. "Good that you don't. You're lucky to have met me rather than some of my housemates. I tend to sell myself short," I said in mock humility, though it was sometimes true.
"Will you sing to celebrate your liberation tonight?" I would bet not, but eh, asking and teasing were both in my nature.

I shook my head with a laugh, both at her self-mocking and her teasing. "Not unless you get a whole lot more alcohol in me. And then you better settle for drinking songs in foreign tongues."

"Aye, I may yet pay to see that, Keaira," I said with a chuckle, though maybe I wouldn't either. "Other forms of celebration are sometimes more pleasant for the neighbors, though. I take it you will be flauting your newly marqued back at the Coronation Fete, then."

I heard tease in her voice, just as I heard what was unsaid. I grinned in spite of myself. "I actually just decided yesterday that I was going. I don't have anything yet."
