Smiling back at her, I said, "You do seem to have an impeccable sense of timing." Noticing Soir's affectations I laughed a little. "And your pretty little mare seems to be in a more demonstrative mood today." Noche was playing a little coy this time, acknowledging Soir's presence but not going out of his way to attract her attention, though there was little doubt he would start doing so later.

"It does seem so," I said, laughing and taking Soir's reins. I stroked her neck, trying to calm her a little. "Of course the minute Noche starts showing an interest she'll play hard to get again."
Seizing the opportunity of a moments calm on Soir's part, I swung up into the saddle and settled myself.

Laughing, I swung up to rest in the saddle and then turned to face Leyna. "Where should we ride today?" I asked as I caught her eye and smiled. She was so beautiful, a true work of art, and it was hard to tear my eyes away from her.
Shaking my head, I collected myself and walked Noche to stand next to Soir, reaching out a hand to push her hair behind her ear.

I had leaned into his touch before I even realized what I was doing. I smiled and chuckled at myself.
"You were the one with the wonderful idea to get out, you lead," I told him

Smiling at the feeling of her smooth skin brushing past my fingertips I said, "Fine then, but don't blame me if I make us end up somewhere less scenic than the route you did. After all, I don't know this place as well as you do."

"I'm more interested in the company than the scenery," I told him, smiling.
I urged Soir forward, suddenly feeling the need to be out of the City.

Smoothly I urged Noche up to meet Soir and walked next to Leyna, leaving the City and whatever it was that bothered her so. A run in the country could do me some good as well.

As we made our way down the streets and towards the outer wall, I reached across and squeezed Nic's hand.
"Thank you for this… for thinking of me and a way to make things better for me," I told him, smiling softly.

Smiling, I squeezed her hand back. "I only wish I could do more. You aren't the sort of person who should ever be sad one moment longer than necessary."

"You do more than I think you realize," I told him. Then I blushed, realizing how close to dangerous emotions I was beginning to tread. I squeezed his hand again and then drew mine back.

Noting her blush I wondered at it but didn't let it occupy my mind too greatly- if it was something I needed to know, she would tell me. Sometimes it was hard to remember that she and I weren't together in any real sense, but so far I'd managed it.
The City walls were in sight and I turned to Leyna. "So, do you think you're going to be able to win today?" I asked teasingly.

Soir tossed her head as if she was answering Nic and I laughed.
"I don't think it will be any closer a race than it was last time," I said, winking.

"Probably not," I answered cheerfully, "But it's the trying that matters, isn't it? Besides, the worst that can happen is Noche learns to run faster, and he could probably use the competition. One of these days I will win."
