After Joie had dropped me off I slept for a few hours, ate, bathed and hurried off to House Bellamont. I rode in my carriage, though usually I would walk, but Joie was right. I should be carefull right now, with all the sickness running around.
I made my way slowly to the door and knocked.
"Is the Duchesse in residence?" I asked as the door opened to a male servant.
"I think she may be sleeping my lord." He said glancing back to a woman that said something. "Please, come in. I'll have some one check." I nodded and entered, whincing a little as I did. My shoulder was healing well, better then the rest which made me happy. But the slices against my torso made movement difficult. I waited eagerly, hoping that Mirielle was alright.

I was drifting in and out when I heard the latch of my door open, bringing my eyes open with it. A maid looked in on me as I raised my head to see who was there. "Oh, my lady, you're awake. You have a visitor," she added. I sat up some and cleared my eyes. "Who is it?" I asked, wondering if August had come back. "I.. I'm not sure," she said, blushing furiously. "Duvalle didn't ask when he answered the door. He's handsome, though it looks like he's been hurt recently, bandaged up and moving stiffly."
I smiled almost immediately. "Damien," I said, sitting up more. "Show him up here, please."
Nodding, she went back down the stairs, and I gingerly began dragging my fingers through my hair, trying to straighten out while I could. I was groggy still, but I didn't think I could sleep anymore right now, anyhow.

Some one returned, but this time it was a woman and she informed me that Mirielle would see me. I thanked her and let her guide me upstairs to her room. She pushed open the door and I entered slowly, limping a little as I walked, my arm across my torso to remind me of my injuries and not over extend myself.
"Mirielle?" I said softly coming over to her bed. "Mirielle." I repeated with a smile as I saw her. She looked ill indeed and I wondered how she was doing.

I smiled at him, strong as I could, but knowing it was weaker than my natural smile. "Damien, gods, how are you? How are you feeling?" My smile slipped as I saw his limp, and I pulled the blankets up higher til they were covering my chest, even sitting as I was. My eyes went over him, looking for more injuries, but with this clothing on it was difficult to see.

I smiled and came over to her as quickly as I could. I drug a chair behind me and placed it next to her bed so that I could sit, which I did. "No worse for ware." I said smiling. "Nothing that a little time won't mend." I reached out and touched her hand with mine. "And you? How are you feeling?" I asked. "I heard about the plague and had to return to see you."

My face contorted in worry when he gripped the chair and drug it over - I had no light furniture in my room. He seemed to wear the weight well, though, and with a lack of complaint either physical or vocally from him, I didn't say anything on it. "I'm alright," I said, squeezing his hand with mine and touching my throat with my free one. "My throat hurts though, and my stomach." I hadn't checked yet to see if I had the rash, but I was uncomfortable under my arms, and figured probably so. "I'll be fine."
Shivering, I tucked the blanket in around me more. "I recieved your letter no more than two days ago; you must have chased the mail caravan all the way back." A soft smile covered my lips.

I let my thumb gide over the skin of her hand, touching it tenderly as I listened, chuckling as she spoke her last sentence. "Actually, I wasn't even thinking about the letter." I began. "After the letter was sent Joie recieved a letter from here saying there was a sickness. She told me she was coming back to the City, and of course apon hearing it myself I thought of you and journyed with her."

Joie... I had to think to place her name. She was the one who'd helped Damien, and cared for his wounds. I nodded slightly, then winced with pain. The cramping in my stomach seemed to be getting worse too, and I was beginning to feel queasy. "Surely not just for me," I said, trying to keep things light. My hand squeezed his hand again, though it was lighter this time; I was distracted my the twisting of my stomach. "Did they ever catch who did that to you?"

I shook my head no. "I had to come back Mirielle." I said looking at her. I felt guilty and I needed to make it up to her. I wasn't sure if she could tell, but my tone held the notes of my despair. "I should have been there for you so many time..." I trailed off. "And I now you have August, but...I should be here for you too."

My stomach turned more as he talked, and I squeezed my eyes shut, swallowing, knowing by instincts what was going to happen and desperately trying to stop it. "Damien, you don't... Oh, gods, please, fetch my maid, please," I begged, praying to sweet Elua he wouldn't be around when I vomited.

Perceptive Damien, I stood quickly and bolted to the door.
"Maid! Maid!" I called out, a young girl came barreling forward.
"What is it?" She asked franticly.
"She's ill." Was all I said before turning back to Mirielle.

As he turned to the door, I went the opposite way, stumbling out of my bed as I reached for a trash bin. Absolutely mortified even while I did, I emptied the contents of my stomach into it before I could move, my knees trembling as I stood, bending over it.

I cover my mouth with my hand trying to not get upset as she wretched, I badly wanted to run over and hold her, but I stayed coming toward her and standing at a distance. I watched for a moment then walked to a basin and poured in some clean water then took a towel and dipped it, soaking it, before wringing it out. I turned back to Mirielle and walked toward her, bending next to her and touching the cool cloth to her forehead once she hand quite vomiting.

Oh gods, oh gods...
I was horrified at what I'd done, even if I knew I had no control over it. Tears welled up in my eyes as I hurridly put the can down and straightened, unable to look at Damien as he comforted me. Wiping my mouth hastily, I trembled slightly, mortified. "Oh gods, I'm so sorry," I whispered, my knees shaking a little as I gathered my hair and pulled it out of the way of my face. Thankfully nothing had gotten on it.

I smiled at her embarassment and brought the cloth to her lips wiping them clean. "Its alright Mirielle," I said trying to hold back a chuckle. "If it makes you feel any better you looked gorgeous doing that." I enphasized the word to make light and try to get her to feel like self conscious. "Really Mirielle, I've done far worse and usually after a night of ale and too much boxing." I teased.

I squeezed my eyes shut, thinking that the color in my face would never disappear. His words made me give a choked laugh, though I reached out and took his arm to help steady myself as we stood. "Thank you," I said, wetting my newly cleaned lips again. "I just... am not used to ale and boxing, I guess," I said, giving him a feeble, but honest, smile.

I chuckled and pressed my forehead to hers then pulled back. "Come, you're burning up. Let me help you back to bed." I said wrapping my arm around her waist and pulling her arm over my should before I reached down and scooped her into my arms...slowly...hoping not to shake her. I moved her to the bed and laid her down slowly again.
"Are you eating?" I asked softly. "I know it's hard to keep it down but you need to have your strength."

I slowed my breathing when he pressed his face close, cringing at the thought of him smelling my breath. When he dipped and scooped me up - gently - I sighed softly, the relief of stress from being on my feet too great to protest at all. "Thank you," I said as I smoothed my hair out of my face, knowing I must have looked a wreck. After vomiting infront of him though.. I didn't think it could get much worse.
The thought of food made me wrinkle my nose, giving him a look of despair. "I know... If I told you I have, will you not make me eat right now?" Smiling was easier this time, and I made sure the one I gave him left no room to the imagination that I was actually trying to fool him.

I chuckled. "Oh sweet cousin, don't make me sit here and spoon feed you." I teased. "What about some soft bread to begin. You're stomach will ache worse if you have nothing in there." I pointed as I settled into the chair I had been in before.
Lifting her had put strain on my torso and I had to sit. Mirielle had given me a scare and my blood had surged with action. I had seen it before in men, in times of need they are possible of setting feets despite their injuries.

I smiled softly at him. "You're too good to me, Damien," I said quietly. "Bread would be all right... I'll let my maid know when she comes back in. "Have you been on many picnics lately?" I asked, my smile growing a little more. "I don't think I'll ever forget the look you gave me in the gardens, having no idea who I was at first."

I gazed at her with a smile and chuckled as she spoke. "You're the only one Mirielle," in more ways then one. "What did I look like?" I asked her chuckling at the fact that she had looked so different from what she had been like.

I could feel my stomach turning again and I squeezed my eyes shut for a moment after her spoke, willing it to stop. After a moment it began to quell and I could answer him. Opening my eyes again, I smiled softly. "You looked absolutely confused at the palace," I said, then stopped to swallow before continuing. "The last time I saw you, when we were kids, you were gangly and your head was too big."
My tease was strong at least, because the last thing I wanted was for him to believe me. It really wasn't, but admitting to it wouldn't be much fun. I curled more into my pillow, though I didn't stop looking at him.

She spoke and I listened, but she looked tense again and I moved to the door where the maid was running down the hall toward us. I took a fresh waste receptical and some towels, then asked for some breath and some tea then turned back and limped to the bed. I settled things then returned to Mirielle's side with the waste bin.
"Well, I guess that what happens when you think you're pretty darn smart." I said in my own teasing reply about my head.

I winced when I saw him carrying tools for my illness, mortification setting in again, though I tried swallowing that as much as I tried biting back the building urge to wretch. "I'll have to remember never to think that about myself then," I said, giving him a soft smile as he sat down next to me. Even in my state, his limp had been obvious, and my smile melted away into a worried look. "Damien? Are you alright? Do you need to lay down somewhere?"

"No, don't worry about me Mirielle. I'm tough, its all that time on the sea." I chuckled making sure the bucket was read for her and put the other items by her bed side.

I gave him a weighing look, my mouth twisting a little as I looked at him. "Promise?" I asked softly, my eyes straying to his chest where he'd held it earlier, then back to his face again.

I leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on her brow. "Promise," I said after I had sat back. "And you can beat me if I don't." I teased smiling to her.

I chuckled. "Then have August do it, I'm sure he'd be more then willing." I teased back, there was a sadness in my thoughts though. Thinking about August and how he'd do anything for Mirielle.

"Oh, no, I could do it," I said, flashing him a grin, "I'd just have to wait til you were better is all. Let interest build up," I added.
My grin slipped as my stomach turned, though the maid came in with the bread and a teapot. She'd put it in my good set, the one of the few I usually used when company came over. Thin, delicate porcelain... I was afraid I'd break it if I had to move quickly. Still, she did it with good intentions I didn't doubt, and I thanked her as she set it down and left again. I eyed the bread, feeling my stomach turn again.
