"Excellent. I have a good feeling about this." I smiled, stepping into the fading light of outside. I took a deep breath, and held out my arm to help Azabel down.
We walked inside, Azabel I think looked back at her drivers a moment. Inside, there was a warm charm: warm candles, spices in the air, and a subtle band playing in an alcove, just starting for the evening.

I looked about as we walked in, gaining my bearings and still displeased with my drivers for having made such a blatant mistake - the restaurants didn't even reflect the same country.
"Where would you like to sit?" I asked, looking across the floor towards the tables, half unoccupied.

"How about that one," I pointed. It was near a wall divider, and close the the alcove with the small quartet. We could listen to the music if we liked, but if afforded some privacy as well.
It wasn't till right after I spoke though that I heard my stomach give a rather loud rumble. "Wow, I guess I am hungry.

I smiled and nodded, moving in the direction he pointed in. "That works well for me."
A server noticed our entrance and came to see us as we reached the table, proficient and ready already to take our drink orders. "White wine," I ordered without really looking up, focusing more on straightening my skirts and settling.

I nodded for another glass. The server left a pitcher of water on the table, and two menus with us to look at as well. He also mentioned something about a pheasant for a special, and I thought that sounded rather good, so I asked for that. But, I wasn't the type of man to order for anyone else, so I waited while Azabel made up her decision.

I thought about it before nodding. "A half order for myself, please," I responded, smiling up at the server, then at Tabien as he walked away.

I smiled back, leaning closer as the server departed. "It sounded good, and I remember having pheasants once, it was different, but strangely appetizing. Keep in mind that if they do what I think they will, they prepare it differently that one is expecting."

My smile creeped towards a grin, and I ducked my head a little before looking back up at him. "I've had Aragonian more than a couple of times, but as I'm sure you know it's flavors more extensively than I, I'll shall just have to believe you."

I blushed a little. "Sorry, I got excited. I suppose given the times it's not that much of a rarity any more. I mean, it's there themed restaurant in our country." I said nothing else on the matter, and changed subject.
"So, is it just me, or do we seem to be getting along really well?"

"Oh, no," I said, realizing he had taken me as if I had been sarcastic. "I meant it - you've lived there and I've only dined in Aragonian d'Angeline restaraunts - I don't doubt you have a more extensive knowledge of the food."
I smiled, hoping to be a little more reassuring. "We do seem to be getting along well, I agree."

I laughed as she tried to defend me, and nodded as she agreed. "Now I just wish I could think of more things to say. It's seems I'm a terrible sport for conversation," I said blushing.
"Unless you want me to recount various shapes of mountains and rivers, though I think poetry is better apt at that."

I chuckled, shaking my head. "As exciting as that sounds, no thank you."
I leaned forward a little more and picked up a spoon, studying it before looking back at him. "I've heard in Ch'n they use sticks for eating - is that right?"

"Oh," I took a quick sip of water. "Yes. Actually. That was a rather weird custom to get used to." I looked around for something to mimic the action, but I came up short.
"Well, yes, they use two small sticks, and they hold them in a sort of pincer like grip, like so," I demonstrated as best I could. "It forces everyone at a young age to develop very nimble fingers.

I bit my tongue to keep from making another smart comment, though my lips twitched as much in amusement as they did intrigue at the idea of eating as such. "I could imagine it would," I responded, wondering just how one really ate like that. Looking down at the spoon again, I mused softly. "Makes you almost feel a little lacking in dexterity's, doesn't it?"

I laughed. "Yes, I remember the first time I saw a spoon on my return. I looked at it, thinking to myself 'Is that it. Was there a trick to it, or do I just hold it like this. It seems so simple'." I saw the server bring in the bottle of wine and glasses, staying silent as he set the table, and waited till he left.
"And some of the martial masters, they had such great control." I snapped my fingers, "Could snatch a small frog with them."

I gave him an amused look at the frog comment. "There are children on our country estate who do much the same, then fish with them after. Unless you were talking about the table utensils?" I asked, my amusement growing.

"I was. The little frogs are fast enough as it is, so imagine how hard it would be to pick them up with two sticks no wider than a small bundle of hairs say," I pulled a couple to demonstrate the width. "Like this."
I wondered if I looked slightly goofy showing her.

I could feel a slight rise of one corner of my mouth as my amusement grew. "Like that, huh?" I asked, my grin growing a little more.

"Oh, something like that. I think I have a pair back at my place stored away, I'll try to remember to show you next time." I said pragmatically. It wasn't till after I said it that I chuckled, thinking it a good excuse to get her into bed again. But, I didn't worry about it.
"So, have you gotten to travel anywhere?"

"Around Terre d'Ange, yes," I replied with a smile, seeing the waitress come back with our orders. "But outside the country, no. I want to, but it might be a while yet before I have the opportunity."
As the words left my lips I sat back, the server having arrived with our orders. I smiled, folding my hands in my lap as she set them down.

I waited, the food set, and I took a few bites, voicing my critique. "Ah, excellent." After another bit, I looked back up at Azabel. "What's keeping you from setting out on some exploration. I'm sure Alba would be a reasonable trip, and still a safe haven."

"I don't know," I said reluctantly after a few bites of my food. "I just... haven't ever done it. Juliette L'Envers de Monteague and I have talked recently about sailing away to foreign countries, but I doubt it'll ever happen, just fancies." I smiled softly. "One day, though."

"Well, sounds like you just need some motivation," I thougt about it, sipping, and enjoying the food. "I suppose mine reasons were less than pure..." I trailed off a little bit, thinking on my flee from Aragonia, not to mention that I didn't have a choice of moving there when I was a child.

"Well, we all have to do what me must sometimes, and not what we want." I had no idea what he was talking about, but I shrugged it off, enjoying my meal as well as the company.

I looked at her a moment. I'd learned long ago, often from myself, that those who seemed confused and perhaps interested, but didn't want to force the issue would often use vagueness to express their opinion.
"Would you like me to explain my situation?" I said, enjoying the side of prepared vegetables and potatoes.

I looked up at him curiously from my plate, not having expected him to offer to explain. "Only if you would like to," I said. "Your past is yours, Tabien - I wouldn't think of trying to make you drudge up memories to sate any curiosities I might have."

I looked at the few morsels of my meal that remained on my plate. "No, I wouldn't peg you as the type of person. But," I looked at her curiously. "You seem like a trustworthy person, and I wouldn't mind satisfying your curiosity. " I looked at her pleasantly.

I lowered my fork and tilted my head a little at him, wondering what it was that he had to say that was apparently so close to his heart. "Alright," I said slowly. "You have my attention, then."

I'd finished a good portion of my meal now, so I poked at the remaineder, mostly sipping on wine as I spoke. "Well, I moved to Aragonia when I was 14. My father had passed away a couple years before, and my mother had remarried. As it turns out, what she thought to be a lone traveler was really a high ranking member of the Aragonian parliment. He had learned there had been some shady deals done under his name, and was hiding out till his prosecutors were caught."
I made my way through the rest of the meal, and being surprised by a small dessert brought by the server.
"I can't say I loved him by any stretch of the imagination, but my mother did, so I offered no overt protest. But despite the trimmings, Aragonia wasn't for me, and when I reached my majority. It wasn't for pleasure, it was for personal growth, I would think. That, and the place was just full of mean people sometimes," I offered the last part in jest.

I listened carefully, tucking snippets of the conversation away to reflect on at a later date. "That sounds like a fairy tale," I replied as he finished, smiling softly at him. "Beautiful. They're still together then, in Aragonia?"
