"No, I'm not really one for parties and large gatherings. I spent a quiet night alone," I answered. "Did you meet anyone interesting?"
Neither trying to hide it, nor making it obvious, I began to transfer the image of her on the bench to the empty sheet.

"The Marquise De Lacroix," I said. "She was very kind, and we had much in common." I smiled softly remembering her. "It was a very beautiful fete."

My hand immediately flew to the faint outline of her face I had laid down and I captured the sweet smile of memory that touched her lips. Ah yes, this was what I wanted, true representation of her.
"What made it so beautiful?" I asked, hand moving faster.

I thought a moment. "It's lovely to see people dressed so beautifully and coming together to celebrate," I said. "The room was aesthetically pleasing and the company was excellent." I grinned a little. "And the food was delicious."

"It sounds lovely," I commented, filling in the lines of the bench she was perched upon. "What was your favorite part of the night?"

I thought back to all the parts of my night, when one particular moment popped into my mind. "I have a daughter who is an adept at another House," I said, "and she is recently come of age. Seeing her there as a strong young woman, beautifully dressed, it made me feel proud to have raised her."

Ah yes, there it was, there was the piece of her I had been looking for.
"What is her name?" I asked, softening a line there and there, adding shading here and here… nearly done.

"Avrielle," I said. "She is sixteen."

"I think I remember her," I said a little absently.
Putting the charcoal down, I looked up at her. "Would you like to see?"

Nodding, I rose from my position to look over his shoulder. "Oh," I breathed. "It's amazing." I smiled widely. "I must have posed a hundred times for other artist friends, but there's something about this one. I love it."

"Thank you," I said, removing the page and carefully rolling it up before handing it to her. "Your other artist friends must have never got you to talk about your daughter."

Taking the picture, I smiled. "I suppose not, but they don't always talk with me when they draw either."

"Then they are just copying what you are, and not drawing who you are," I told her, smiling wryly - admittedly with a good bit of pride as well.

"I never thought of it that way," I said admiringly. "That's very interesting."
I curtsied slightly. "Thank you for these pictures. I will see you in the morning?"

"I will see you in the morning," I replied. I started to put my charcoals back in the pouch and then looked up at her again. "No alcohol tonight, it increases the bleeding."

"I wasn't planning on it, but thank you for telling me," I said. "Until then."
Waving just a bit, I turned and continued on my way, wherever my feet would take me today.

Returning her small wave, I watched her go. It was always good to know when people were coming in, it leant structure to my days.
I left the charcoals in their pouch and the sketch book closed as I relaxed, taking some time to just watch the flow of the square.
