"You're not," I said, glancing up. "I feel badly for your situation. Have you ever thought about just stopping by?"

"I don't dare," I said. "Besides, I'm unmarqued, they would never leave us alone."

"Even as a friendship?" I asked, surprised. "A moment with her in the garden would be better than one with me, I think." Giving her a slightly teasing smile, I leaned back again.

"It's no secret," I said. "We were together at Longest Night." I rubbed my temples. "Perhaps I will try," I said, "but not today."

"Putting off til tomorrow what could be done today never gets anything done." Glancing to her, I sighed. "I don't mean to offend you, nor pry."

"I'm not offended," I said, "I'm just beginning to feel exhausted from trying so hard."

"Perhaps then, what you need is to not try at all and see where that leads."
Shrugging, I added, "Mayhap it is that she merely is taking the attention for granted, mayhap not. But there's a good chance she will come around to you if you stop coming around to her."

"Mayhap I should," I said. I laughed. "It's so un-Heliotrope-like to give up on one's lover..." I pushed my tousled hair out of my eyes. "Maybe I should do something else un-Heliotrope-like, to get into the mood."

"Such as what?" I asked, surprised to hear her laugh.

I laughed again. "I know not," I said. "Jasmine House's motto is 'for pleasure's sake', maybe I should spend some time there."

I grinned openly; one of the things I was ever prideful of is my House, and to hear interest, however fleeting it might turn out to be, pleased me. "Indeed," I said. "I'll take you, if you truly want to go."

"And will you teach me about pleasure for pleasure's sake?" I asked him, winking.

Chuckling at her question, I smiled. "If you should so wish," I said, looking up at her. "And, by the way, I was right. A smile most definitely suits your pretty face compared to a frown."

I blushed at his compliment. "Thank you," I said. "I think I would like to see Jasmine, if you would like to take me. Maybe I'll learn something to make me feel better."

Standing again, I reoffered her my arm. "I truly hope you do. Shall we?"

I took his arm with a smile. "Let's."

We'd barely gotten out of the merry little garden when a light rain began to fall; before we'd gone two blocks the rain had changed to a heavier, and I pulled the both of us under an awning covering the entrance to a little diner.
Giving Maeve a grin for her soaked appearance, and knowing full well mine was just as bad, I glanced out into the weather. "I don't know if it'll let up." Spring showers were unpredictable, and from as far as I could tell this one stretched on into the horizon.

I frowned. "Bother," I said. "I suppose we will have to find indoor activies instead."

"We could," I said, letting her frown bounce off of me as I gave her a smile. "Or, if you'd like, we could postpone the tour of Jasmine and all its pleasurable offerings until a later date."

"That sounds like the best idea," I agreed, smiling back. The rain was still pouring down, and I said, "Shall we make a run for it?"

Raising her hand to my lips, I kissed the back of her damp fingers with a lingering touch, then released her entirely. "Let me know whenever you're ready to see Jasmine, and I will find a way to give you what you want." Smiling, I gestured into the rain. "It was a pleasure meeting you... As for now... After you, my lady." I grinned, ready to begin the long trek back to Jasmine under the fall of the early spring rain.

I blushed at his kiss, before ducking out from under the awning into the rain. With a little cry, I began to run back up towards the Thirteen Houses.

I grinn as she scampered off ahead of me before following, moving at an easy walk through the spattering of raindrops and letting myself enjoy the cleansing feel of them. Spring always relaxed me, and I basked in it as much as I could - wet or dry.
Jasmine called and I answered, dutifully leaving behind my short afternoon out.
