“Ah, now see why I prefer ‘Alain’?” I asked with smile. “It is a pleasure to meet you too Dine.”
I glanced at the shop we’d stopped in front of. “Is this the place?”

He was so relaxed, that I felt the stress of my shoulders be relieved as pressure lifted itself from me. I nodded to both his inquiries. Now that I knew his station, I was glad it was the shop where the Azzalese Duchesse had been shopping – it was fitting. “It is,” I said. “Would you like help in there, an outside eye, sort of thing?”

“That would be wonderful, thank you,” I said, opening the door and holding it for her.

I smiled in thanks for his courteous gesture, and entered the shop. There was a clerk there, and I smiled at her elegantly, not wasting time as my eyes surveyed the place for the men’s section. It wasn’t far off, but one had to go down a couple of steps to get to the other side of it, for the steep street had forced the builders of the building to segment the floor.
“The men’s section is this way, Alain,” I indicated once he had entered the place completely.

“Thank you very much, Dine,” I said, smiling and following her lead. From what I could see, the items the store offered did fit well with my tastes. This looked promising.

Since Alain seemed inclined to follow indications, I moved over to the men's section completely, and quickly surveyed the racks. "Well..." I asked, "is there something in particular you would like me to try and dig out for you?"

“Anything that looks new and spring-like, I guess,” I answered with a chuckle as I began looking through a rack. “I don’t need a lot of anything, I just wanted a few new items for the warmer weather.”

New and spring-like. Light colors, comfortable and airy fabrics, bold designs wrapped in elegance, class and discretion. That was feasible, I decided. “Then I will set to it,” I said with a teasing smile. “Just in case another strange jacket lurks in the shadows.”
With that, I proceeded to methodically look at the racks, making notes of things to consider. Wanting to test my eyes, I pulled out a shirt of light cotton, in an eggshell tint that was just this side of classy. It’s interest was the sleeves cuffs, which were well embroidered in maroon and ocher, along with the matching collar. I held it up with a questioning look.

The selection was quite nice. I’d found a couple vests I rather liked as well as a green shirt that I was certain I was going to buy.
I looked up at the sense of movement, considering the shirt Dine held aloft. “I like it,” I told her. “The detail is very nice.”

As I had been busy, so was Alain, and I smiled for his response. “Yes, elegant, classy, interesting… but it won’t take the attention off the essential,” I replied with a teasing grin. I noticed the stack, and looked at his selection. “You don’t look like you need much help now,” I observed. “This is lovely,” I said, pointing to a blue vest that was truly froth with class.
“Shall I set it aside?” I asked about the shirt.

“Yes, thank you,” I replied, smiling.
I looked back at the rack and my eye was caught by shirt that was a striking shade of aubergine with gold piping around the cuffs. I picked it up also.

I’d spoken a bit too soon. That shirt was… well, it didn’t look so well on the rack, though perhaps it would on him. I grinned, and said, “That’s an interesting pick. If I may be so bold, I’ll admit I’m curious to see you in it.”
I had spoken with as much tact as I could, and I set to looking for breeches – so far, he was only looking at vests and shirts, after all.

“There’s nothing wrong with bold once in awhile,” I replied, chuckling. “I have a feeling there will be enough nighttime fetes for me to find a place to wear that.”

Once in a while. “Yes, indeed,” I replied with an amused smile. I located pants that were in a tint close, but just a little bit subdued, letting the shirt grab the bulk of the attention. “With this, perhaps?” I offered with an engaging smile.

I looked at the pants she held. “I think that might be too much on me. I’ll likely go with black,” I said, smiling.

I nodded, putting them back. “Black is such a classic choice. It’s hard to go wrong with it, I admit.” I put the pants away, and said, “Is there anything else I can do to help?” I didn’t want to be stalking him – if he said no, I would excuse myself and be on my merry way. It wasn’t my style to press.

There was a sudden change in her manner and I looked up.
“Forgive me, I didn’t mean to be keeping you from anything,” I replied. “Thank you very much for showing me this shop, I appreciate it.”

“You aren’t,” I replied with an embarrassed grin. “But I don’t want to impose…” Oh, Naamah, I hoped he wasn’t dismissing me – I liked him, Alain de Mauvais. He was nice. I couldn’t help but wonder… “Have I indisposed you, Your gr… er, Alain?”

I smiled, burying my eyes into the rack for a split moment. “I’m glad,” I said, blushing a little. “So was I.”
He had set aside a rather large selection of clothes, and I asked, “Were you going to try them on?”

“I was, but you don’t have to wait around while I do if you’d rather window shop elsewhere,” I said as I motioned a clerk over and asked her to take the things to a fitting room for me.

“Did you not wish for an outside eye?” I asked with a quirked eyebrow that was half-teasing, my grin a little bit merry. He’d just told me he enjoyed my company, I wasn’t going to allow myself to be so insecure right away.

“I have a feeling most of the decisions will be easy, but if you’d like to stay in case I do need an outside eye that would be very kind of you,” I replied with a smile.

“Alright,” I replied accommodatingly. “I’ll just be browsing here when you come back,” I said as I indicated an area that had some pretty appliqués that could be used for many interesting purposes.

Smiling at Dine, I then headed to the fitting rooms. It was rather quick work for the cut of the clothes was nearly identical, just the colors and details differed. I decided I liked them all and after putting on my own clothes again asked the clerk to begin adding everything up.
Then I headed out to see if Dine was still there.

I’d spent a moment looking at the appliqués, finding them beautiful and helpful, interesting ideas taking form in my mind. I wouldn’t buy, but I would come back, perhaps, for some of them later. Every so often, I glanced at the door to the men’s fitting room, noting that Alain didn’t come out at all. I’d honestly started wondering if the place had otherworldly abilities and had swallowed him when I caught glimpse of him coming out… with the same attire he’d worn on his way in. Not wanting to be a disturbance in the shop, I took a few steps in his direction.
“I think this one is a keeper,” I said with a teasing grin.

I laughed deeply and spun around as if modeling. “Yes, I feel very comfortable in this,” I replied with a smile.
“Actually, all the items we picked were keepers. I rather like this shop, the clothes are all comfortable and seem well made. Thank you for bringing me here.”

I was delighted with his response to my tease, and laughed with him, entirely glad for this moment of joy. “You’re very welcome,” I said with warmth. “I’m glad you liked it. It came to me with high recommendations,” I added a little bit mysteriously, though my eyes were full of mirth for it.
Of course, I wouldn't divulge my sources... but I liked to open the door for teases.

“Well, your source steered you in the right direction,” I said, smiling. The clerk signaled that my order was ready for payment.
“After I settle up here perhaps I could buy you a drink as thanks?” I offered to Dine.

“You’re very welcome, really,” I said with a smile, hoping he understood I’d acted without interest. “But if you have a mind for it, I will be glad to have a drink with you,” I said with an earnest grin. I liked him; he was nice, and funny. It would be pleasant to spend a longer moment with him.
