"Lovely, My Lady de Mauvais," I said as she quite visibly took great pains to seek out faults. Now, those were things that mattered to women, and I had played the game long enough. But I was in a good mood, and well inclined, and so I added, "Did you seek out anything else?"

"No, Amir," I said. "Just the one dress for now." Satisfied with how it looked and felt, I said, "If you'll excuse me..." I slipped back into the dressing room and into my blue gown. Coming out with the dress on my arm, I handed it to the clerk to be wrapped up.
"Thank you for your help, my lord," I said to him.

After she left, I concluded the transaction, bidding the delivery be made at my home three days hence. Until then, I would have time to complete the set up, for it was still unfinished, and it mattered to me to have my home in the fashion of Ummaiyyatt, as I did, in all the places where I stayed.
"You are very welcome, Lady Mauvais," I said charmingly.

The clerk handed me a parcel, which I held to my chest. "It's been a pleasure meeting you, my lord," I said. "Perhaps I shall see you again sometime."

I lifted a quizzical, mysterious eyebrow as Lady Mauvais took her leave, and replied, “Perhaps…” though I was rather curious about this young lady. I wasn’t overly sure of protocol, or even if she were married, of even if her station warranted further interest. But ultimately, it mattered little – my curiosity always got me to stimulating places.
“May the Barakha protect you,” I told her with a quiet smile. If it were in the fates’ whim to make us meet again, likely, we would.
