I'd risen early as I did every day, starting off with my morning exercises. It was a bit of a gloomy day, threatening rain as I prepared Furion for a short trip through the city. Dispite the bad mood in the air, I was optimistic. My chance encounters seemed to flow into one another like a river, and so very soon, I found myself with an opportunity for, well, not sure what exactly. A student, a teacher, a scholar, mayhap. In anycase, I felt like things were changing, and I was hopeful.
I was right about one thing, halfway there, a nice steady rain started. It was with a bewildered and humble heart that I arrived at the Rocaille townhouse in a dripping longcoat. My vest and shirt remained somewhat dry, my sword hilt glistening with water. I noted the much larger house, and full staff, who eagerly stabled Furion and led me to the door.
I gave a knock, standing just under the dripping roof. I forced a smile.

Brian answered the door, as he had just happened to be walking by. He opened it and looked at the soaking wet man. After glancing over him, he stepped aside to let the man into the doorway. "How can I help you?" As he was a swordsman and not a servant he wasn't aware that Tabien had been invited over just yet.
Hearing voices over the rain storm I rushed downstairs hoping to find Julie, but instead finding a wet man. "Are you Julie's friend, Tabien de Valclesa?" I asked the wet stranger.

"Yes, that would be me." I bowed before entering cautiosly, so as not to drip to much on the floor. "Adrienne de Rocaille I presume? I hope I am not early, I feared if I waited, I might get caught in the streets." I was no doubt soaked by now. I was preoccupied with my surrounding at the moment to take in my host.

"Brian would you be a dear and go and fetch this man something to dry of with?" Brian gave me a look that said he wasn't paid to be the maid, but gave a curt nod and went to go fetch one. "Hostile out there isn't it? Yes I am Adrienne, welcome to my home, could I interest you in something to warm you up?"

I arrived at the lunch just a little later. Freya didn't like the rain, it made her nervous, and it had taken a lot of convincing to take her out, and eventually I'd given up, getting the house carriage instead.
I arrived at the door, and knocked three times.

A knock caught my attention, and since no one else was around I held up one finger and said "One minute." Going to the door I saw Julie and my face lit up instantly. "Oh I'm so glad you could make it! You aren't too wet I hope?" Noticing the carriage outside I gave a grin, well she had been somewhat sensible then. I gave her the kiss of greeting ushering her in through the door.

"No, it's fine," I replied. "Horse didn't like the water..." I looked at Tabien, dripping, and chuckled at the Professor. "Well... seems like not all horses are woossies," I said, teasing.
I turned my attention to Ambre, kissing her back, "It's good to see you... How've you been, sweets?"

"Good," I said with a smile.
Brian was back with the a towel and extended it towards Tabien. Noticing Julie he gave her a warm smile.

"Brian, how are you," I said, grinning. "Nicole sends her best," I added teasing. "I see you've already made introductions?"

Brian nodded with a grin, "It's a shame you didn't bring her Julie. She would of had fun with me." He winked and then gave a bow to Tabien, before walking off presumably to find my brother.
I nodded, "Tabien has just arrived, I invited him to a drink to warm up, I hope you'll join us." I pointed towards a sitting room with a warm fire.

I chuckled. "You know I'll be telling her that, don't you?" I said to Ambre with sly grin. I wrapped my arm around her waist, and headed to the fire. "He's a good man, but you have to know, he's... a little awkward," I whispered with a giggle. "Makes me feel proper and grown up sometimes."

I accepted the towel as Julie entered, removing my long coat to dry off. Luckily, it was mostly my hair after that, so I declined the need for a change in clothes. I was a little oblivious to my surroundings, though I did hear something about a drink amongst there talking.
Finally drawing the towel off and handing it back to Brian, I noted Julie and Ambre strolling into room waist in arm. Friends indeed, it seemed. I raised an eyebrow.
"Curious." I said.

I laughed back, "Yes he's quite haughty about it isn't he? Think he's more mature because he's older than I am, I should kick him in the shins." I said this quietly to Julie, but then made sure to turn around and face Tabien so he wouldn't feel ignored.
"Are you dry enough now? Something warm to drink perhaps? Tea or brandy, or some other beverage?" I said politely to Tabien, giving him a warm smile.

"Yes, very much. Thank you Adrienne, Brian." I nodded the the servant.
I took in her last question. I figured I'd better keep my wits for now, though I hadn't had brandy in the longest time. "Tea would be fine. Nice to see you Julie." I gave a friendly smile to her as well.

I nodded and went to get the tea cups, and steaming tea that had been brought during the time the door had been open. I poured two cups full, "Would you like some Julie?"

“Yes, please, Ambre,” I replied smiling. “Well, Tabien, good to see you too. Have you recovered from your…” I grinned, very amused, “your shower?”
I was teasing him, but it was all in good spirits – I owed him a boon, really. I was grateful he had let Gad and I to each other. We had indeed needed to patch things up, and his encouragement had been what I needed to speak. Likely, I would have gone out myself, to leave Gad to ponder – and have lost my beloved in the process.

"I'll manage. I forgot how wet Terre de Ange is. I'm so used to snow, that I'd not prepared properly." I said pragmatically.
From the sound of it, she was in good spirits. And that was good news, hopefully this little meeting would pay off. It'd be nice to get to mingling with the peerage.

I poured the tea for Julie, and then lifted the try to put it on a low table before a couch and three chairs. "There we are. Feel free to take cream and sugar." I took a seat on the couch.

I lifted a cup for myself, and took a seat on the opposite couch. I'd been used to the herbal teas, so I didn't need any additives, taking the bland taste to heart. I took a hearty sip, giving my host the chance to make the first move. Being the guest, I didn't want to start with any particular question.

Thanking Ambre for the drink, I helped myself with milk and sugar, and an amused grin spread to my lips – I had the memory of telling her tea was grand-motherly, something I had told Louvel as well. And it seemed, rather than having tea and scones at the L’Envers, we were having it at the Rocaille’s. With their history, which Ambre had recounted herself, I found that rather ironic.
I looked at Tabien, quiet and reserved – this was not the same context as the one of our last meet, was it? So very different, no blades, just me, the hoyden, and my precious and elegant Ambre, and tea. No sword swinging, no ale, no challenging. It was rather amusing – he was seeing another side of me. I took a sip of tea, and seeing as it was apparently up to me to start the conversation, I elected for banter. “So tell me Ambre, do we have the house to ourselves, or is Justine around?” It was starting to be a rather amusing pattern, and I was wondering if he existed at all… I’d never seen him.

I shook my head, "I've no idea where he is. Probably talking to someone about the estate or something. Who knows what young men do these days." I gave a little laugh and turned to explain to Tabien, "Justine is my older brother."

"So I figured. I do remember a little about the Rocaille family. I've pasted your estate a few times during my travels." I blew on the hot tea before taking a sip.
"Actually, I find it a bit odd that you would be in the city," I said non-nonchalantly. I wasn't sure about the rumors with the Rocaille family were grounded, but I recalled some misgivings with the royal family, or something like that.

I nodded, taking another sip of tea, and stayed quiet - my goal was to introduce Tabien to Ambre - so it was appropriate that I be as inconspicuous as I could - even if it wasn't much, when it came to Julie Deveroix.

"That's true, before now we normally do not reside in the city. My mother is now of the mind that old wounds should be healed and that her children shouldn't hide themselves away from the world they live in. I am glad to be here, and to meet the peers that I would of otherwise not of met."

"Well, that makes two of us then." I paused trying work on my social remarks. "One assumes of course that all peers are good company, don't you think."
Ok, that might have sounded bad. "Well, what I mean is, that's the ideal anyway, no one wants to meet a bad or disgruntled person."
I shouldn't be allowed to talk about trivial topics, I swear.

I blinked and then glanced quickly towards Julie for a brief second before focusing once again on Tabien, "Well yes, no one would want to meet unpleasant company, but we are all people. Just because we are peers, doesn't mean we have no fault because of our lineage." I wanted to point out the Shahrizai were a fine example of this, but didn't. In my experience I didn't know if that was true or not, only through history had I come to that conclusion.

“Yes, Ambre, I agree, we are all people,” I said very quietly. “And I will concede, I have recently found more palace guards, artists and adepts have sometimes more heart and quality than in the Highnesses and the Graces we meet at functions. Oh, the high born and the common folk alike, harbor the good, the bad, and the ugly.”
I glanced at Ambre, knowing she would understand very well my wording, and grinned, taking another quiet sip of the grandmotherly drink.

"Right." I stated, "So, anyways. I suppose we're not here to discuss the quality of the realm. We're here to...." I blinked a bit, then looked at Julie. "Actually, come to think of it, why exactly are we here." I must have had a quick blank thought.
"Er, right, teaching, of course." I looked back at Ambre. "You would be interested, correct?"

I suppressed a chuckle. Tabien was about as graceful as a skating cow, when it came to dealing with peerage. No, let me correct that. When it came to dealing with everyone I'd seen him deal with, seeing as I'd seen him with Gad, and now with Ambre - and he was managing to look like a clumsy fool.
He had just put words in my mouth, really - I'd said maybe, and that I couldn't speak for Ambre, but only make introductions. I only hoped my friend would have patience.

I was at a loss for words for a few minutes. I had been under the impression that he was here to tell me of his vast and stately adventures, and as a teacher I must confess I wondered what he could teach me. Hardly courtly manners. "I uh... what is it that you exactly teach my lord?"
