"I would not mind," I replied with a smile. "You treat me with such patience, it's the least I can do, really," I assured her, smiling wide.
I took a moment back, and said, trying to muster mirth, "So, do you have thoughts on where this lamp will be positioned, in your home?"

"There's a table in my room that's lacking something pretty," I admitted with a shy smile. "The lamp will look wonderful there, and the light will hit it perfectly. Not many people will see it, but I will, and I'll remember your friendship fondly."

"It's yours to enjoy," I replied with a smile. "And I'm glad that you're please with it. It doesn't need to be on display, as long as you enjoy it."
Oh, she was so endearing. The greater part of my pleasure in giving her this birthday present was related to the joy she expressed. Shopping for it had been fun, but seeing her react to it was heavenly.

"I will, I swear," I promised him, smiling. "But you need to rest, so you can feel better."

I stretched a little. The effect of the opium was wearing out, and I nodded. "Yes, it's time, I'm afraid," I replied, standing. "Besides, you must be exhausted yourself, aren't you?"
"I will see you out, if you like," I added gallantly.

"I only get tired when I let myself," I told him with a smile as I carefully rose, handling the box and lamp like a newly-fledged bird. "And I would like that, very much- unless you're too tired." I looked my friend over anxiously.

I laughed, smiling gently, but immediately changed my tone to imitate an aging grandfather. "I think I'll be alright to walk you," I jested. "But I may need to get carried on the way back..."
I stole a glance at her, but I kept a serious look, even as my lips were quirking up. Of course, I was still able to see her out. There was no question about that.

Smiling at understanding the joke I teased back, "It's a good thing you have such a capable staff to carry you about, then."
Carefully holding the box in one arm I slipped my free hand into the crook of his elbow so he could lead me out.

"That, it is," I replied with a wide grin. I welcomed her hand on my arm, and smiled at her widely. "And a blessing that I have good friends to keep me wise," I added warmly.
"I am hoping to hear from Gentian soon enough, Lessa. I will keep you informed, yes?"

"I would appreciate it," I admitted, meeting his gaze for a moment. "If I know, perhaps I won't worry so much."

"It's a promise, then," I replied quietly. "I may or may not have time to do it personally, but I promise you word, one way or another."
I held her gaze, and said, "I don't want to be a source of pain, Lessa. It's unacceptable."

"I'm only pained by not knowing," I assured him, then lightly kissed his cheek. "I'll pray for you, and hope for you."

I let my hand wrap around her waist just a split moment as she kissed me, and smiled reassuringly. "Well, then I'll make sure to spare you such pain, dear," I replied calmly. "It's the least I can do."

His hand was warm, something I tried not to notice- after all, I'd seen the love in his gaze for Mirielle, and I wouldn't come between that. "Thank you, it's very kind of you," I said softly, repressing another shudder, this time more masterfully. "Eisheth keep you in her hands."

"May Elua and Asherat see you safe," I replied with sincere care. To-Biko opened the door, and I smiled, letting us out. The carriage door was opened, and I held my hand out to her to help her in.

Smiling softly I took his hand and stepped in. "Thank you," I told him. "Everything will be fine, I'm sure of it- but I'll pray for you nonetheless."

I closed the carriage door myself with a soft thud. "Have a good night, Lessa. I will see you soon."
I stayed out, to watch her carriage take her away. Gods, I wished her well. She was a delightful person.
