It had been a few days since my assignation with Donatien. My back had healed mostly but my marque had been slightly damaged. I walked up to the Marquist's shop with hopes of getting it fixed and if at all possible getting my marque a little father along. With my purse of coins in hand, I opened the door and walked in. Seeing no one I timidly said, "Hello?"

Having finished straightening and cleaning things from my last appointment, I had decided to have something to eat. I had just finished eating when I heard a voice downstairs. Taking the stairs three at a time, I went to the lower level and out to the front room.
"Hello," I said, smiling at the Valerian adept there.

"Hello," I said again, smiling broadly. I had never met the man before and he was quite stunning. "I am Seanna nó Valerian, I was looking to get some work done on my marque."

"Then you've come to the right place, Seanna," I said, my smile growing.
Stepping to the side, I motioned for her to proceed me to the back room.
"Are you looking for repair work or new work?" I asked.

"Um, well I need a little bit of repair done. And if I have extra money after that I was hoping to get a little new as well," I said as I walked infront of him into a room he had indicated.

"Alright," I said, nodding slightly. It was rare for a Valerian to come in for new work only. It was a good thing that their House was going through a trend of popularity, or else the adepts there would hardly ever make any progress on their marques.
I motioned to the screen in the corner. "You can undress back there, and there's a robe if you like, so I can look at how much repair needs to be done and then we can see about furthering your marque," I told her, smiling.
She was such a pretty girl, it was beyond me how anyone could find pleasure in hurting her, but it was not my place to judge.

"Thank you," I said as I walked to the screen and slipped of my shoes. The floor was a little cold but not bad. Next I undid my dress. It slid from my body to the floor and I threw on the robe. I walked back out from behind the screen and waited.

While she was behind the screen, I lit the carnation and lilac candles, plus a few others for added light as the shadows were beginning to pool.
Hearing her return, I looked up, smiling again.
I motioned her closer, into a well lit spot. "If you'd just turn around and drop the top of the robe I can see what we're working with," I told her.

When I came out I smelled the scent of candles. It was very delighful.
I walked over to him and turned my back to him. I untied my robe and dropped the front of it as he had said. It was very warm in the shop so I was very comfortable.
I tried to turn and look over my shoulder to peek at my marque. I hoped I would have enough to further is some and not just fix it. "How bad is it?" I asked.

Kneeling behind her, I let my fingers run over her back, inspecting the work that had already been done as well as looking and her still uncolored skin.
"The damage isn't too bad," I said, gently prodding at a couple of places. "Your patron didn't use a sharp whip, so the damage is fairly topical and won't take too much to fix."
My hands slid up along her spine, more carefully inspecting her uninked flesh. "Depending on how much you have to spend, we should be able to make some progress too."

I was relieved to hear the damage wasn't to bad. The last time I had been to a marquist I had to spend all of my money on repairs.
I shivered as his hands ran up my spine, slightly tickled. I opened up my purse and spilled the coins in my hand. "This is all I have. Will it be enough?" I asked, showing him.

Straightening up, I looked at the coins she had, then at her back again, calculating in my head.
"If you wish to spend all of it, that will do the repairs and three-quarters of an inch of new work," I told her, meeting her eyes and smiling.

"Oh, thankyou." I said smiling back, very relived. "I do wish to spend all of it."

Nodding, I motioned that she could pull the robe back up if she liked.
"I'll fill out the contract and then we can get to work," I told her, still smiling. I pulled out a contract and began filling in all the appropriate information before offering her the quill so she could look it over and sign.

I pulled my robe back up and put the sash back in place.
Taking the quill from him and the contract, I looked it over quickly and signed my name on the appropriate line.

After pushing her coins and the contract to the side, I looked back at Seanna.
"If you'll get comfortable on the table, I get things ready," I told her, smiling.

I smiled back slightly and moved towards the table. I lay on top of it on my stomach and get comfortable. I fold my hands under my head and watch him move around.

I prepared two sets of ink, one for the new work and one for the repairs, for they needed slightly different ingredients.
Once everything was ready, I turned and went to where Seanna lay. Moving her hair and the robe aside, I ran my hands over her skin again. "I'll do the repair work first and then move to the new," I told her.

"That's sounds good," I said as I stopped watching him and layed my head back on my arms, waiting for him to start.

Taking up the taper, I dipped it in the repair ink, set it against her skin and then went to work. It took more focus to repair a marque than to do one fresh and all of my concentration narrowed accordingly.

I controlled my earge to jump when the taper hit my skin. Keeping my eyes closed while he went to work I put all my energy into staying still. I just lay there and drifted off.

Finished with the repairs, I straightened up for a moment. She was the perfect sort of client, able to forget the pain, yet not so thrilled by it that she had trouble being still.
"Done with that part," I told her, setting aside that taper and picking up a clean one. "Are you ready for the rest or would you like a break?"

The sound of his voice pulled me back and I said "No, I'm ok to continue."
Closing my eyes again I prepared for the next part, ready to drift off again.

"Alright," I said, not surprised.
Carefully I marked destination points on her skin so I would remember when to stop, then dipped the clean taper into the other set of bowls and begin working on her unmarqued skin. She really was a bit of a joy to work on, she didn't even bleed much.
Slowly her marque grew, like a living thing on her skin. Some shapes finding completion, while others only began to hint at what they would become in the future. Marvelous.

I thought about anything and everything while he worked., having nothing else to do. Only feeling something now and again, but barely. He was very gentle.
When he took the taper away like he was finished, I lifed my head and turned around, "Done already?" I asked.

"Not so already, it's been three hours since we started," I said with a smile, indicating the hour candle in the corner.
"But yes, I'm done. Hold still while I prepare a dressing. How does it feel?"

"Oh," I laughed, "I drifted off. I'm sorry." I stopped laughing so he could dress my back and said, "It feels fine. I think it's gone sort of numb."

"Nothing to apologize for," I told her as I mixed the turmeric, zedoary, and clove in a bowl and crushed them into a powder. "I am glad you were that comfortable, it means I'm doing my job well."
Carefully, I began applying the powder to her back. "This will help with any lingering pain and speed the healing."

"Thank you," I said, glancing up and flashing her a grin.
Powder applied, I set the bowl aside and reached for the dressings and carefully bound them around her, covering all the areas I had worked on.
