"Why not? Let's indulge." I told her with a quirky smile. "In both the tart and Balm."

"I am glad you agree with me," I said, before signalling the maid. "We will have the tart, please." She nodded, before disappearing into the kitchen and reappearing with two generous slices of fruit tart.

I nodded my thanks to the maid, taking a bite. I made an appreciative sound. "Just excellent. When would you be free to go?"

"Let's say this time next week," I said, taking a bite of the tart myself. It was excellent, as always.

I ran over my mental schedule. I had appointments, but they could be moved. "Perfect." I told her before taking another bite of the tart. "Shall I pick you up?"

"If it pleases you, Duchesse," I said, with a twinkle of mirth in my eye.

I laughed. "You haven't been formal with me for as long as I can remember. Don't start now." I teased.

"I jest, I jest," I said. "With all this talk of you asserting yourself, I figured I should help you feel the part."

I chuckled. "Always helpful." I teased, smiling. "Should I return the favour and provide you and Gabriel with a private room?" I finished off my tart feeling much more light-hearted.

"Only if he wishes it too," I said. By this time I was in quite an excellent mood. Finishing my slice of tart, I rose from the table. "Can I offer you some brandy or cognac, or do you need to get going?"

"Maybe just a little brandy." I said with a little smile. I was glad Soleil had invited me over. A good talk with a friend was exactly what I needed. Otherwise I was tense enough to start seriously considering killing off some of the more problematic family members. "I have a few more minutes before I have to go."

"Then let us retire to the sitting room," I said, starting out of the room. "I have an excellent pear brandy."

I stood and followed. "Sounds wonderful." I replied as we entered the sitting room. My favourite chaise in the room was still in the same place, and I sat, settling my skirts around me. "So until the winter to get ready..." I mused out loud, then grinned. "I hope you know I fully intend to spoil your babe rotten."

"Not too much, I hope," I said, chuckling and pouring her a small glass of brandy. For myself, I had water; I had heard it was bad to drink too much when with child. "She needs to grow into a strong woman like her godmother." I couldn't recall if I had asked Anacrasia yet to be the child's godmother, but if I hadn't, now would be the time.

I smiled wide, thoroughly touched. "I would be honoured." I replied, hand over my heart.

"I thought you might like that," I said, going to her and handing her the brandy. Raising my water glass, I said, "To you, to the babe, and to the future."

"The future, and House Belfours." I replied, toasting her. I took a sip of my drink. "You were right, this is excellent."

"I'm glad you're enjoying it," I said, settling into my armchair. A comfortable silence settled over the room as we sipped our drinks. Now was a time for reflection.

We drank in relaxed silence, full of dinner and thoughts. Soleil was right, I was going to have to go talk to my cousins all personally, explain a few things to them. A group situation would be a disaster, but I could pick them off individually.
With that decided, I settled a bit more comfortably into my chaise. "So, baby plans..." My voice trailed off hopefully, humour in my eyes.

I chuckled. "I was thinking I would keep the babe with me through the first year, and in that time, turn the guest bedroom closest to mine into her room. I should send home for the crib there." I looked to her. "There's so much to get; blankets, clothes, diapers..." I trailed off. "There's time," I said finally. There was a lot to do, to be sure, but there was much time in which to do it.
"Have you any plans?" I teased her.

"Should I organize a shower for you?" I asked with a smile. "To help you with your shopping list of course."

"I would love that, thank you," I said. "But not until the fall, when the due date is closer. If...Elua forbid...something happens, I would not want to put anyone out." I did not dare speak the something I thought of, a miscarriage. I had heard of such things happening, and the thought of losing my child before it had a chance to live was more than I could bear.

"Of course, if that is when you'd like. But you're healthy and young enough still, I have faith it will all turn out." I told her with an encouraging smile.

"Anacrasia Shahrizai, I could kiss you," I said in genuine happiness. "You are the most wonderful foster-sister."

"It's true," I said. "I can't wait till you have children, and they can be foster-siblings also."
I glanced at the clock. "It's getting late," I said. "I shouldn't keep you any longer."

I finished off the glass with a last sip. I rose, going over and giving her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you for a lovely meal, and the even better news."

I returned her kisses. "You're welcome, it was my pleasure."
Rising, I saw her to the door. "I'll see you next week," I said,

I nodded in agreement as a servant brought my jacket. “I’ll write to Balm, and arrange it.” I smiled at her as the door was opened for me. “Until next week.”
And with that I headed home, in a much better mood than when I left.
