Stepping down from the cairage I made my way into the book store intent on finding a few scrolls or books to add to my small collection. I had recently been reading a number of books in my spare time and having a lot of it this day I had decided to expand upon my small library of books.
Entering the shop I was greeted with the sight of rows upon rows of scrolls and books, in all manner of sizes, from massive tomes and manuscripts to small pocket-sized books and parchments. I made my way to a stack of scrolls and began to make myself familiar with the titles I found there.

Having just entered into a contract to draw up a will and inheritance rights for a long time patron, I needed a scroll on the current state of land laws in Caerdicca Unitas.
I entered Armands and glanced around. It was relatively quiet, and I headed straight for the legal section. I was well acquainted with this store, they always had the most up to date legal scrolls.
A pretty adept, one adept could almost always tell another, was looking through some things and I nodded and smiled a greeting to her as I passed.

I could hear the door open in the front of the store as I picked up a rather interesting novel of adventure. I looked up just as he was passing by me and smiled a greeting. He was a good looking young man and obviously knew what he was looking for as he headed directly for a section of legal scrolls. I returned my attention to the novel in my hands and reading a few pages decided that it would be one worth buying.
After awhile I had picked up another two books and had added them to the one in my arms. I probably looked quite the book worm perusing the bookshop, arms full of books, but I could care less. The more I had to talk about with people I met the better my opportunities to gain patrons and finish my marque. So I continued looking thru the histories and stories of this country and others as made my way through the store.
Looking around the store I saw that the young man had made progress in the legal section of the store and had gathered a few items himself and was quite intent upon another as I rounded the corner nearest him.
"Good day to you, sir. How are you this fine day?" I asked, feeling a little wanting for conversation after being in this quiet store.

The magnitude of property laws in Caerdicca Unitas were constantly changing, and it took me a bit to locate the scroll I needed since I had to constantly check dates. I had just found the one I wanted and was about to go to the counter and make my single purchase when the adept I had seen before approached me.
"I am well now that I have made it through the whirlpool of legalese contained in these scrolls and found the object of my quest," I told her, smiling. "How are you this lovely winter day?" I noticed her armload of books. "Can I take those for you?"

"I'm throughly enjoying myself," I replied, "Oh, thank you." I said, laughing lightly and let him take my books from me. "They are somewhat heavy, yes." I was delighted with his smile and it made me smile even more with gladness. "I saw that you were throughly immersed in your searching, what is it that you were looking for, If you don't mind my asking?"

I settled her books comfortable in my arm, holding my scroll in my other hand.
"Current property laws in Caerdicca Unitas," I told her. "I am working on a will for a patron."
I looked down at here collection of books in my arm and asked her, "What is it that brought you here today?"

I smiled, very much enjoying the distraction our light conversation provided me.
"Oh, the adventures of history and the delghts of poetry." I elaborated, " I have recently been enjoying reading the stories of our country, among others, and I have also found that I quite enjoy the beauty of a finely written poem."
Realizing the vairied difference between our individual selections I laughed, "Quite unrelated to your property laws, I must say, but then I believe you have a specific use for them, don't you?"

"Yes, though I find that given my choice I gravitate towards legal readings anyway. I could blame it on the cannons of my House, but I was reading business documents before I had ever heard of the Night Court," I said, laughing lightly.
"And that said, I realize I need to pick up a scroll on manners while I am here, for I have yet to introduce myself, Fisher no Bryony," I told her, bowing slightly. Even money she was from Orchis, two-to-one for Heliotrope.

Orchis, right again.
"And I am pleased to make your acquaintance, Genevie," I answered, smiling again. She did have a rather infectious smile, but that seemed to fit with Orchis. "It looks as if you are making diligent inroads to never being without something to read."

"I certainly hope so, I was quite determined to expand my reading collection today, and get in a bit of shopping as well." There was a certain glint in his eye just then that made him seem rather at ease and especially handsome and I wondered what it may have been that he thought of.
"I don't come out here as often as I should, I am usually either engaged in business at Orchis or at my parents shop visiting with them and never seem to spend my time elsewhere." I said. I was rather intrigued with Fisher and hoped to get to know him better, "But you must be just as busy if not more, with Bryony being so sought after."

"There is no profit in idleness, thus I stay busy," I told her, grinning. "Bryony is fortunate in that we have skills that are sought after no matter the current fashion of physical pleasures, much like Eglantine."
I shifted the books a little in my arm, as one of the corners had decided to dig into my bicep.
"You said your parents own a shop? Is it here in the City?"

"Ah, yes. My mother was once an Eglantine adept and she and my father own a small bath-works shop here abouts tucked into a neat little corner and often visited for its popular soaps and scented oils." I said, beaming at the chance I had to make a mention of my parents lovely shop.
" I don't know if you have heard of it, it's called A Drop of Joy. It's a charming little shop, I simly love it, and like I said I can often be found their visiting. Usually because I get a lot of requests from my fellow adepts for her products and I'm always happy to help out."

"I have heard of it," I told her. "I have never been there myself, but I have a patron who always brings me sandalwood soaps from there. They are quite nice."
The soaps held some association for the patron and always made her amorous and willing to part with more coins in my patron gift.
"Now that I know you can often be found there, I think I shall have to visit the shop on my own as well," I said, smiling again.

"Oh, you have heard of it, wonderful." I said, smiling pleasantly at the thought of meeting him there. It would doubtless be quite interesting to have someone I know visit the store, mostly I don't recognize the other adepts who venture in when I'm there, but that was bound to change at some point.
"You should really visit it yourself when you get the chance, It is well worth the trip." I stated, with an impish grin at my shameless promoting.

"With a pitch like that, how could I resist," I said, grinning. "I shall visit very soon."
She was very easy to talk to and rather pleasant company, I was glad she had struck up a conversation. While I wasn't like a lot of other Bryony adepts, preferring to live inside my head as opposed to in the world, I did tend towards a very focused life. Genevie was a delightful and welcome distraction.
"You said you had plans for more shopping today, any where in particular?" I asked, wondering what plans she had.

"I intend to visit the Clothier's district and see if I can find a few new additions to my wardrobe. It has been a while since I bought anything new and I was of a mind to indulge myself today." I smiled, pleasantly hoping I wasn't taking up his time like this. "Perhaps even giving into a visit to Anezka's, she has such a fine collection of items, I might be tempted to purchase a thing or two."
I made a gesture indicating that we make our way to the counter, as I was ready to make my purchases. "I also intended to have lunch out on the town today before continuing with my plans." I was happy to have all this time to spend for myself today but I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to do with a whole day to myself.

"Sounds as if you have quite the day planned," I said as we walked towards the counter. "Were you looking forward to some time on your own or would it be alright if I invited myself to lunch with you?"
I knew that sometimes the constant press of people in a House could cause an adept to seek solitude, even in those Houses not as prone to lone souls as Bryony. I wouldn't impose if she wanted to be alone, but I was enjoying her company and thought lunch might be rather nice.

"That woul be lovely," I smiled, "I would enjoy your company." I made my purchases and handed the shop owner the money for the books. Returning the change he gave me to my purse I waited while Fisher purchased his scroll and turning to face the exit, I said, "Shallwe?"

I had to stop myself from bargaining down the price of her books, not knowing if she would appreciate it or not. There was no need to haggle over my scroll, they knew better than to overcharge me. Besides, I spent a lot of money here and it was bad business to cheat loyal customers.
I tucked my scroll into an inner pocket of my jacket, and picked up her stack of books, now tied with a string.
"After you," I said, inclining my head and making a sweeping arm gesture. "I do recall some of my manners."

"Ah, you do remember, thank you." I said, smiling brightly and made my way out of the shop, bundling up my coat around my neck to ward off the cold. Stepping outside into the winter air I looked for the carraige I had rented and saw it waiting at the corner of the building on my left.
"I have a carraige waiting," I said and motioned to it, making my way over.

Following her to the carriage, I asked, "Did you have some place in mind for lunch?"

"I was thinking Desir, I haven't been there in awhile. It would be nice to return." I said, taking his hand as he helped me into the carraige. I made myself comfortable, making room for my books on the seat next to me as he sat them down.
"The driver already knows of my plans so we can just enjoy the ride." I said, settling my skirts around me without crushing them too much, and doing so my hair fell over my shoulder as it wasn't up entirely, just the front was done up in an elaborate coil.
"Are there any hobbies that you enjoy?" I asked as the carraige pulled away.

She must be doing well if she was planning lunch at Désir, it was the nicest restaurant in the City. It was a lovely place, I had been there often with patrons.
"Everything I do has a purpose, so I don't know if any of them can be considered hobbies," I told her. "What about you? Any hobbies?"

"Let's see, well, reading obviously." I laughed, "I may not have many of my own books but I do frequent the House library and such often. I love riding; horses are a soft spot of mine and I wish I could keep one for myself one day." I said, pausing shortly.
Curling a strand of my hair back and forth around my finger I continued, " I love to help others and I'm good at entertaining, and I often find myself doing others favors that I don't always get repaid for. I love spending time at my parents shop, though, and Mother surely appreciates it so I gues things balance out." I smiled apologetically, hopefully not overwhelming him with my rambling.
"What else?" I said, thinking outloud, "I've tried my hand at music and I play a flute passably well, but no way near as well as I would like. Oh, and I love flowers so I also like to keep up the House gardens in my own little way." I blushed, realizing that my penchant for conversation was taking center stage.
I gigled, laughing at myself and feeling a little silly. "And I guess conversation would be number one on the list."

I studied her as she talked, not in a way that would make her uncomfortable, but in the way that all adepts are taught and only Bryony adepts truly master. She was truly engaging, a trait that I was sure served her well at Orchis. I watched her hair move around her finger and wondered if it was a nervous habit or a hint of physical interest. Interesting.
"Conversation is always a good skill to master, especially for an adept," I told her, smiling. "Your time sounds like it is filled with much more soothing pursuits than mine. I tend to spend all my time in books, legal documents, studying the rules and wagering of games, social issues that will effect wagering, things like that. When I need a break, I usually go practice my throwing skills, with my knife."

"I should say so, It has treated me well," I said, finding myself blushing slightly at his compliment. I do so love to get to know people and by talking to them and listening to them I find out what they might be like deep down, and I believed that Fisher was a true spirit, true to himself and his duties and I admired him for it. It is rare to find someone so uncomplicated and I found it refreshing to be able to spend time with him.
"I expect to find my marque fininshed here soon, I know it's somewhat hard to guess at when, but I would hope that I could finish it by mid winter next." I continued, the strand of hair I held switching hands. " I have a little more than two handspans left and it excites me to think that its begining to come to completion."
A sweet smile crossed my face as I closed my eyes briefly, dreamily, only to flash open again as I grinned, looking at Fisher and gaging his reaction to me. I was sure he was watching my every move, calculating as he was and being bryony. I just wondered if he thought me interesting, I certainly liked him and found that it was easy to think of him as someone I could call a friend, and maybe more.
"I believe we are almost there, the cobble stones sound different." I said, casually leaning forward to gaze out the window, my cloak sliding back from my shoulders revealing the cut of my ruby red gown.

"Yes, it does sound as if we're close," I commented, keeping my smile the same and not letting the knowing grin I felt surface at the flash of skin she gave me. It wasn't a nervous habit at all, it seemed.
"I finished my marque some time ago, it's a rather liberating feel. Or at least it was for me. Not so much because I could leave my House, but because now my motives were all my own. What do you plan to do when you finish your marque?" I asked her.

The carraige was begining to slow as it turned a corner and I leaned with it, letting a smile cross my face enjoying the ride. "Hmm, I might just stay with the House for awhile, I really don't have any plans yet," I said, "But being able to do what I want sure does sound good." I swept my hair back over my shoulder, uncovering my now bare shoulders. I knew that my dress wasn't exactly fit for the cold weather but I had worn a beautiful, warm fur coat and so I wasn't cold. I just wanted to make an unforgetable impression on anyone I met today, in hopes of gaining an extra patron or two just from the gossip that would occur.
I figured that Fisher knew that I was daring him to look at me but he probably wouldn't let it show in the least bit. "However, I just might start my own business and become a professional event planner and hostess, heaven knows I'm good at entertaining. " I said, casually adjusting my position to face towards him more. "I was just thinking that it would be nice to be able to come and go as I please and be able to make my own schedule," I laughed, I never did tire of this game and I could tell that he knew how to play, quite well actually. I guessed that he was older than I, and that seemed to fit with his calm approach to life and his knowing grin.
I flashed him a smile before continuing again, "I do so love to see people enjoying themselves, and what better way than to be able to host a fete or celebration and watch everyone there. The people who come to see and be seen and those with thoughts of meeting new people. It would be amazing to have that sort of success."

"That sounds like a rather splendid idea. I think you would be rather good at it. You certainly have the right personality and looks to draw people to you and make them feel comfortable." Purposefully, knowing that she was watching me, I let my gaze drop and caress over her bare skin and then back up to meet her gaze again. "Should you decide to go into a business of that sort, I would be more than willing to aide you in matters of starting a business."
