It was boring at the palace and I had packed so lightly for my trip, that I knew that the only place to lift the burden was Mont Nuit.
I entered into the Grand Magasin de Soie and began to look through fabrics and outfits.

There was a hunt coming up- and as I was neither a strong rider nor a hunter in any sense of the word I knew looking my best would be the only thing I'd be able to accomplish. Full of tips from Coretta and Dominique fresh in my mind I stepped into the Magasin, already having looked through a dozen stores and feeling somewhat more confident in my shopping skills for it.
There were a few different outfits set out, but I ignored them completely and instead wandered over to the fabrics. If there were any eligible girls in my age group who were available, the fete after the hunt would be one of the few ways this season to find them.

I was flipping through the fabrics when I caught a familiar face.
"Prince Christien," I said bowing in front of him. "Its a pleasure to see you again."

"And you, cousin," I replied with a small smile as I nodded in acknowledgment. "It seems great minds think alike. How do you fare?"

I nodded looking around the store. "So far I've found some lovely fabrics, what of you Dauphin. Any ideas for fabrics?" I asked raising a curious brow.

"I like silks and Menheketan cotton," I replied after a moment of thought. "For colors- anything but the feminine ones, usually red or gold these days out of necessity. What are you shopping for in particular?"

I nodded intrigued at his likes. "Something new," I said with a shrug. "I don't have much in the way of clothing so I require something to impress the ladies."

"A common requirement," I agreed with a smile. "The summer season is pretty slim for such things, considering that most of the families return to their country estates for the growing season. You'll really have to stand out to make an impression."
Normally I'd keep my own council, but Denis was something like family- and I was trying to work on my lying. Shadow said that verbal lying relied a great deal on spacing them widely between truths.

I nodded. "Yes, so I've heard." I said thinking. "Then what would you suggest?" I asked curiously.

"Find something you're moderately good at and exhibit it," I said with a smile. "And make a good first impression. If not for that, you'll never get anywhere. What do you intend to do to draw attention?"

I raised my brow. "My charm, good looks." I said with a chuckle. "I meant more what do you think for colours but that works."

"Well, no one can always have the right answer," I replied self-deprecatingly and with a bit of a wry grin, hoping he understood the joke. One never could tell. "But for colors, I'd have no idea. Blue, perhaps, or green. Everything I know about clothing I've had drilled into my mind from my sisters."

I chuckled and nodded. "Ah sisters," I said flipping through some fabric swatches. "Are yours as self righteous as mine?" I asked curiously.

"The eldest can be," I replied. "Though I don't think she means it. My twin isn't with me, and the youngest doesn't quite speak yet."

"Well then you're luckier then I." I said smiling at him. "You're sister, the Queen, it must be tough being in her shadow."

Time to try that lying thing. "Not as much as you would think," I replied smoothly, my features schooled to pleasantness. And now for the bit of truth: "Her demands on me aren't nearly as hard as the ones I put on myself."

I nodded. "Uh huh," I said wondering if it was truth or not. He said it was so but he was in a high position and there must be some dippolmacy there.
"Does the Princess Coretta feel the same, I've noticed she's a bit of a recluse. Is that duty or personality." I gave him a teasing smile. The question was one of interest for myself but also one of simple chatter.

"It's sorrow, mostly," I admitted. "And caring for our youngest sister. It soothes her, I think, to stay and watch her grow when duty doesn't call."

I nodded smiling softly. "I never got to say how sorry I was for your loss. I understand what its like to loose your parents. And for Renee, well I'm sure it will be even harder for a child that's never met her parents."

"Thank you for your words, though I wonder perhaps if Renee will have it easier," I replied. "Surrounded by love from other sources and not realizing what she will have missed."

I thought for a moment then nodded. "Mayhap you're right." I said softly. "I'm sure she'll have Coretta's stories ringing in her ears." I added with a smile. "Thats more then some children get." I thought to my own life, feeling abandoned by all those around me. Silence and depression, no one wishing to speak of such matters.

His own childhood, up until now, had always looked a little worse than my own; I remembered that vaguely, though the particulars of it had somewhat vanished from my mind. "More than most," I agreed. "I only wish I could have more to do with them at times, but work keeps me busy."

I nodded. "I'm sure you're busy. Being Dauphin and Duc at sixteen, not easy." I gave a waning smile.

"Not really, no," I agreed with a wry smile of my own. "But it could be worse. No one wants to kill me so far today."

Chuckling, I nudged him back. "At least that means they know I'm alive, I suppose. What about you, any death-threats lately?"

Chuckling, I retorted, "You know, from my experience if they want to kill you you're not doing it right." My tone was teasing, and I raised a brow to indicate the jest.

I laughed and nodded. "Well then, I must upgrade my techniques." Still chuckling I looked at another swatch of cloth. "Just means more trips to the Night Court."

"That is the easiest way when one has money," I agreed, looking at a red-orange linen. "Though not really much of a challenge. It's like spearing a rabbit in a snare."
