A gentle smile found its way onto my face, and I studied him. "If you feel comfortable here, then yes, I would think it's for the best, but if you're not happy here then I would hope you would find it wherever you would most feel contentment."

"Time will tell. But in the mean time, getting settled has it's own problems." I commented. "On that thought, I'm sure you have some connections, what do you know about the schools and tutors in Terre de Ange?"
I bit my tongue to ask any more questions right away, better wait for the first response.

"The university is unparalleled, of course," I said. "Great teachers, philosophers, historians and others both study and teach there, expanding their knowledge as well as giving it. I could give you the names of a few tutors that have taught a few of my friends children as well." I paused, looking at him curiously. "Have an inkling to go back to school, or is your inquiry for someone else?"

I smirked. "Neither. I seek to add to their services." I took a sip of wine.
"You don't find that odd, do you?" I asked inquiringly.

"Odd?" I asked, my brows raising a little. "Why would I find that odd? Wanting to teach others is a noble thing; without the knowledge of the teachers, the students would be bereft of knowledge." I took a drink of my wine, considering him and his comment on my connections; things had taken a somewhat business like turn, though I kept myself open to thought. "I assume you want somewhat from me, Lord de Valclesa; if so, what is it?"

"What, no," I looked at her. "No, not at all. I just ran into you. I can't really consider that many possibilities on such a short occasion."
I paused for a moment. "But, if you happen to have something..." I started. She might be offering.

I laughed, unable to help myself. "Oh, no," I said, smiling at him. "Forgive me - usually such conversations start out innocently and end up with a begged boon. I don't mind it, but if I prefer to have it out in the open. I hope you can understand," I added, a touch ruefully. "I'm afraid I don't know of anyone off the top of my head who are in need of such services. Is there anything in particular that you enjoy teaching?"

"Hard to say, I've not really 'taught' before. I guess just keep your eyes and ears open, I can't ask for anything more." I gave her a smile. "I do appreciate it very much. It would give me something to really focus on during my time in the city. I find myself very scattered, and currently my training serves as the only semblance of a ritual."
I raised an eyebrow then, "How bout you, what occupies your time?"

"You are welcome, though not knowing what your strengths and weaknesses in subjects will make it more difficult to gain a position somewhere." I picked up my wineglass, taking a drink. "Just something to think on, I suppose. As for myself, I spend most of my days reviewing ledgers, keeping correspondences. Politics as well." I started to set my glass back down and changed my mind, holding onto it instead. "Nothing terribly exciting, I'm afraid."

"And if it's all not terribly exciting, how do you not lose your wits, I wonder?" I asked curiously. I looked at my hand quickly, noting the scaring blood drying in the gauze. It was stiff, and stung a bit, but the wine helped to ease the pain. I filled my glass up half way, and decided that was all the more I would have.

"Years of mind-numbing training," I said with a sudden grin, though it slipped some as he studied his hand. "How is it feeling?" I asked, hoping he were still comfortable, but understanding if it were getting to be too much. I didn't know how deep it was.

"A bit stiff, but it still works. It will serve me well not to try to show off when learning any new tricks. I suppose I let that Shahrizai get to me when we sparred the other day." I added calmly.

I blinked, confused. "You recieved the wound the other day, or a different one?" The one he had on his hand looked fresh when I'd seen it. I may be a noble, but that didn't mean I knew nothing on injuries.

"Not necessarily. I got the idea from a sparring match the other day. Needless to say, I let my pride get ahead of my skill, and I got this for payment. Take that to heart to be careful when learning new things." I said with a smile.

"Mmm," I mused softly, listening to him without interruption. "I would think that taking as much care as possible would be to your benefit, but then again I don't dandle a sword in my hand, either. Was it the same Shahrizai that taught you it the one that also gave it?"

"No, this was of my own doing. He was merely an inspiration to this little nick. But a good mistake like this will lead to a lesson learned." I responded casually.
I noticed how she was very, unguarded. "Perhaps it is too much a change in subject, but..." I started, "Surely at this time you are not still alone, are you?"
It was complete curiosity, mostly just to shift the topics from me, I took a chance that she wouldn't be offended. Last time, when I was young, I had far less tact.

The switch in subject was quick enough that I was left momentarily confused; Still alone? Well no, I wasn't alon... Oh, of course. "I am, actually," I responded, my smile returning as memories came back. "I always said I'd never be tailed if I could help it... And, well, I can help it."
I raised a brow teasingly, giving him a curious, studying look. "I don't have anything to worry about, do I? If so, I have guards hired and hiding around, looking like everyone else."

I chuckled. Was I being a bit to vague, or was she being coy. "Yes, well that would explain how such establishments keep there business in order. Buying rounds for the guards keeps the coffers full."
I started at her for a moment. "I don't think you have anything to worry about."

"Of course," I replied smoothly, an amused smile itching at the corners of my lips. "No, I stopped using them the moment I moved out of the Trevalions and back home to my own lands. For a while there was some around my estate, but they were dismissed inside of a year." I didn't delve into why they were there in the first place - the suspicious deaths of my parents was hardly a topic I enjoyed talking about.

I noted the dismissal, but didn't press it. "And where pray tell is home then for you. Is it the city here, or...." I left her an opportunity to complete the sentence if she needed to.

"For now, the City," I answered, sipping at my wine with a smile. "I've never really lived here before, not on my own. Are you staying here as well, or do you have a niche somewhere in Terre d'Ange?"

"Well, I have a nice estate in Siovale..." I paused for a moment, "You know, maybe it's just deja vu, but I swear we've had this conversation before." I shrugged.
"Maybe, maybe not. Although, in all honestly, I've never known this city, so I'm willing to give it a good try before I make a decision for sure."

I tilted my head; had we this conversation? Mayhap. I'd been distracted enough with the rest of our conversation to have forgotten. Inwardly I was vexed with myself; I disliked being caught off guard and forgetting details.
"Of course. You always just visited a little, then, inbetween all your travels?"

I nodded. "I suppose that's a way to say it. Although, there's still alot of areas for me to visit. Any sugguestions?" I asked curiously.

"If you've never known the City, then I suggest the Palace museum, hall of portraits, or library." I smiled, gathering my skirts in my hands. "I'm afraid I must get going for now; appointments to keep. It was good seeing you again, Tabien." I stood and reached into my purse to pull out a few coins to pay for the wine. "Consider it a welcome home gift," I said warmly, then laid them on the table, my demeanor set to refuse him if he should argue with me on it.

I looked out, and she was right, time had passed. I nodded to her, rising to see her off respectively. Looking at the remainder bottle, I paid my share, and enough for the bottle, and decided to play the role of mild mannered lordling, with bottle in hand, returning to my townhouse, and stay intoxicated to let my wound heal. I really didn't feel like dealing with the pain right now.
