I lead Julie to the White Hart Manor. I had not been there for some time, but the place still had not changed. I was a big fan of their soup and of course the kind manager who had taken me in.
"I highly suggest the chicken soup," I told her as we walked in and I looked around for the manager.

*a few days after Sabrina's Coronation* I grinned, my eyes taking in the new place. It was much less rowdy than the Cockeral, more suitable for two girls out for a dinner and some chatting, and the idea pleased me. “Chicken soup, you say? I will try it,” I replied, grinning. I was starting to really like Ellette’s ways – she was decisive, and it was a nice change, to make a friend such as her.

The manager saw me and waved. She put down the mug she was walking around with. It seemed they were short handed since she was out in the main seating area.
She walked over and smiled at me, "hello Ellette, its good to see that you are doing well. Can I offer you something to eat?"
I smiled, she had always been a generous one toward me. "Thank you, I would like that." I motioned toward Julie, though I did not point and said, "this is my new found friend Julie Deveoriox we were looking for some dinner."
Somatra smiled at us both, beaming to see me walk in with someone instead of my usual lone self. "Let me show you the table over here, it has a good view and some privacy."

I observed quietly the exchange with the lady who had received us, and once we were settled, I gave Ellette a wide smile. “Well, you are certainly appreciated around here. She looked like she had known you for ever, and cared much about you,” I said warmly.

I smiled, "I wouldn't say forever, but she's known me about 4 years. So it has been some time. I owe her my life in a way." I realized I was about to reveal more than I normally would and paused. I shrugged as if it was nothing. "We are good friends."

“Four years is a long time,” I replied with a smile. “Almost a quarter of my life, anyway,” I said, grinning. Ellette didn’t seem to want to say more, and I repressed the urge to ask a moment, until it was irrepressible, and so I finally let it out. “I can’t help but ask, what do you mean, she saved your life?” Then, realizing the indiscretion of my question, I apologized right away. “You don’t have to tell me, sorry.”

I saw Julie's brief fight and wasn't sure if I should laugh at her inability to hold it back or be annoyed. I decided that it would be pointless to be angry. After all, I could leave out any parts that I didn't like. I had started the conversation, it would not do to act embarrassed about my past now. I decided to keep things simple and brief.
Holding back a sigh I said, "simply that before Dahlia I had a rough life and she saved me from it."

I nodded, smiling, "She is a good person, then," I said, not asking more - Ellette was cryptic enough, that I understood I strode on eggshells, and so I let it there. "You'll have to forgive me," I added softly, "I'm a little raw - I've been remiss, and so you'll find I am ignorant in a lot of things... "
She made me even more curious, but this time, I let the matter lay. I didn't want to be rude, after all.

I nodded slightly at Julie's apology. Perhaps her family is an open sort. I had seen a few of the adepts in their interaction with their kin. Some got along quite well. I didn't want the conversation to stay on apology so I thanked her for it and then changed the subject.
"What made you decide to get a tattoo?" I asked.

I smiled and tilted my head. “A whim, really. I met the marquist at the Coronation, and the idea was planted… I kept on thinking on it, and seeing as I am to be a soldier of sorts, it seemed only fit that I be tattoed, just like my male counterparts.” I winked mischievously, “Show them the girl can take it, you know?”
The serving girl came by, offering to take our orders, and I ordered the soup Ellette had suggested, and a mug of ale, looking at her in askance.

I took the soup as well. I did not often drink ale, partially due to me trying to seem proper on front of patrons. It did depend on who I was with. Since Julie ordered it, I did as well looking forward to the drink.
Once the serving girl left I could not help myself, I asked, "a solider? I can not say that I have meet a female soldier before. I am curious, will you be working for the palace?"
I had meet a few female bandits, though they were few and far between. They were rugged, but of a different sort. Most of them were very aggressive, not only needing to keep their own jobs but also needing to keep the men they didn't want off them.

“I’ve no idea where I will be working,” I replied to Ellette, letting my mind think. “For now, I am training, and I hope to be the best of my generation, if I can. I’ve learned alone, for the most part, but I have been graced with the mentorship of Camael’s scions, and so I am not complaining.”
She set me to think. I would offer my services to the Crown, or to one of the Sovereigns. My house was loyal to Terre d’Ange and to the Queen, and I felt it in my bones since I had witnessed history. “I’ll likely offer my sword to the Palace,” I said after a few moments of thought.

I nodded, "it would be an honorable path to take." I thought about it as she thought of her own fate. "I wonder what one must do to work for the palace in that maner. It would give me an option once I have my marque complete. Though I may have to aquire more professional training than what I have. Dahlia adepts can hold their own, but a battle is different than taking on an assalant."

“It would be,” I replied. “But I would be loath to simply stay at the door, and stay awake all night, waiting for the events to occur. I fear I am a little bit more on the active side, if you know what I mean.” Only then, did the rest of her words settle in, and I took pause. I asked, wide-eyed, “You wield?”

I listened to her, I had not thought of myself as being inactive, but it was true that being an adept was sometimes a waiting game. I would wait for Dahlia though, they had given me a life beyond that of a bandit or a serving girl.
I put the thoughts aside when Julie's question was asked, "yes, I do. Dahlia teaches self defense, but I have a history that required me to learn prior to my time as an adept." I kept the words light, but it seemed my past would keep on comming up. Of course no matter how much I tried to ignore it, I could not truly escape my past. It was partially what made me, me. It was also something I could not change. I sighned inwardly again, if only I could go back and change it.

“That’s great,” I said with a smile, “I did not know Dahlia had such trainings.”
My next thought was interrupted as the food came, and I thanked the staff with a nod, smelling the soup appreciatively. I took another swig of ale, and said, “Were was I…” I had lost my line of reasoning, “Yes, so what kind of training do you receive at Dahlia?”
The fact that her past was coming up again did not escape me – but I had been indiscreet once, and I knew better than to repeat my mistakes.

I smiled at the waitress as well as the food was delivered and I took a small sip as Julie asked about Dahlia. The soup was as good as usual and I was happy for it.
"They teach mainly self defense," I told her. "While Dahlia doesn't get very many negative patrons, no house is immune. It's also a place for some of the adepts to take a sense of pride, something they can do beyond the bedroom games."

“That’s a good thing, I guess,” I replied with a smile. I took a sip of the soup, and smiled in appreciation, “That was good advice, about the soup,” I said offhandedly. Resuming the subject, I said, “You are lucky, I didn’t have any formal training until very late. In fact, I learned it all on my own. I am trying to fix that, though.”

"That could be difficult," I told Julie, "though in the end as long as you are able to pay attention to your partner you will be ok. Its a game of finding their pleasure points and being able to excite them in all the right ways."

I looked at Ellette in bewilderment. I’d never thought of sparring in those terms. “Really?” Was all I could muster – it had to be a misunderstanding. “We are talking about swordplay, are we?”

I paused for a moment at Julie's question. I wasn't sure if I should laugh or blush, apparently we had gone on two completely different tracks.
"No, I wasn't talking about sparring. Though I guess if you did hit the person, espcially a man, at their pleasure point they wouldn't be fighting back very much."

I couldn't help but let out a small girlish giggle. "Yes, I could imagine," I replied with a grin. "That wouldn't be very honorable fighting though, now, would hit?" and that made me laugh a little more, though it was more at the confusion that swept over the both of us, then at the visual that little discussion was conjuring.
I blushed, though, and said, "Well, I'm not very trained in that other area either, you know, so I'll still keep that advice in mind."

I nodded in agreement, "no that wouldn't be a very honerable way to fight." I took another bite of my soup and then when I was done I asked, "what do you fight with, A sword perhaps?"

“Indeed, a sword,” I replied with a quiet smile. I undid my belt, and set the sheathed weapon on the table. “I rarely leave home without it – mostly because I train daily,” I explained. “If you like, when we’re done, I can show it to you. My mentor says it’s not very good, but I’ve learned to compensate for it’s flaws. If I ever get more money, I’ll likely buy a new one.” Curious, I asked, “ What do you fight with?”

I smiled as Julie laid out her sword. I could say it wasn't the most rustic thing I had seen. Some of the lesser bandits that had roamed through the camp used some pretty beat up swords. The only benifit was that they were quite strong for it, needing extra strenght to make up for the lack of a sharp tip.
I leaned over slightly and brought my leg up, giving myself access to the small blade that was on my ankle. I only brought out one since they were twin daggers. I took good care of them and with their lack of real use they were quite clean. A pair stolen off a rich man many years ago.
"I just have two of these," I said, "much smaller but they do have their benifits."

After Ellette had looked at my word, I took it back and sheathed appropriately, taking great care to do so in the most discreet fashion.
Hmm… Daggers, I’d never really taken to their usage. Maybe there was something to be learned there, between her and I. In fact, maybe we could learn from each other. The fact that she was carrying made me add a great deal of kinship to the appreciation I had of her. Not so many women wielded, and she was interesting in the way she managed it.
I held out an open palm, “Do you mind if I take a look?”

I handed the dagger over to Julie, I was not worried about her stealing it. I probably had more experience in that area than she did. I also didn't see Julie as the type to stab me in the middle of the White Hart.
"I know they look a bit delicate," I said referring to the fact they probably cost a pretty penny if they were obtained honestly, "but they are well made and the blade has a mean bite."

I twirled the dagger in my hand, finding it light, yet pleasant to use. “I can’t quite comment on the quality of your weapon, I’ve never trained to use the dagger. But it looks and feels like a good blade, for all I know, and it’s beautiful,” I said. “Have you ever trained with a sword? Maybe we could help each other out… broaden our spectrums, if you know what I mean?”
I grinned widely. I was happy to have met Ellette – for the sheer fact that she wielded, as I did – but she also had a grace and an elegance about her which I lacked completely, and secretly, I envied her for them. Besides, she was nice – very nice.

Though Julie said she didn't have much experience she was able to move it about with some skill, which I noticed as she twirled it. It was obvious that she was not oblivious to basic weapon usage. It made me curious as to her sword fighting levels. If I had Julie teaching me sword fighting along with Bayard teaching me tumbling my fighting skills would not diminish, something I had secretly feared my stay at Dahlia would do.
"I understand," I said to Julie, "It would be a good ideal, one could never know to much. I have used a sword in practice, at Dahlia, but not very often. They tend to be large and unwieldy, especially when you are used to daggers," I added with a smile.

“Funny you would mention it,” I replied with a chuckle. “I was just thinking that working with such a short weapon changes your defensive strategy a great deal. Looks to me like we have a deal,” I concluded, winking.
I’d never sparred with anyone that used something else than a sword – it would definitely be interesting. “So you train at Dalhia, then?”
