I opened the door of the establishment for her and held it. “Yes, all good things start with friends I think.” Then I quickly closed the door behind us and then moved to a table soon pulling out her chair for her. “What would you like?” I asked still standing.

"You to sit and speak with me," I said with a soft smile, lightly teasing. "Please, shouldn't friends relax around one another?"

“Of course. Uh” I sat directly beside her and asked “What do you prefer to be called? I know your name is Lessandrie but perhaps you prefer something shorter in friendly conversation.”

"Lessa," I answered with a smile. "And what of yourself- should I call you Pieter?" My voice was soft as I said the name, adding the Illyrian inflections I knew from learning the language.

“Lessa, I like that.” I was by this point smiling like a well and true dolt and it occurred to me I was sitting really close to her. “And Pièter is fine, but some who do not like the Illyrian inflections call me Pete. Why don’t you pick the one you like the best?”

Smiling slightly I said, in clear Illyrian even if it wasn't that of a native speaker- for I had been taught the language by an Illyrian tutor- I replied, "Pieter is your name and that's what I choose to call you."
A serving-girl approached and I looked to my new friend, cocking my head sideways and waiting for him to order for himself first.

Slipping to my milk tongue I responded “Thank you I shall enjoy what ever you choose to call me.” I then followed her gaze to the serving girl and switched my language yet again. “Wine please and what ever the lady prefers.” Though I blushed once more when I realized I had reached out and patted Lessa’s leg whilst making the order.

Native Illyrian had a particular sound to it I could never seem to echo, but I didn't let it bother me. Most were surprised I could speak it at all. "A glass of your good red," I told the girl with a smile and nod, at which she nodded and turned to retrieve the drinks.
It took me a moment to notice his hand on my leg, and while I wasn't expecting it I didn't startle or flush either. After all, he most likely meant it in a friendly way and it didn't feel wrong in the slightest and I softly brushed his hand with my own.

I quickly started to withdraw my hand but when she brushed it with her own I left it in place. I drew a few deep breaths to regain my composure then soldiered on staying in her own tongue for her benefit and I was in her land as well after all. “It seems that living along the coast has taught you a bit about my people.” I teased a bit then “Of course we are all ruffians and pirates at heart.”

"Is that such a bad thing?" I asked, teasing lightly. "I know a few people who are as much ruffians and pirates at heart and aren't Illyrian at all and a few Illyrians who certainly were no such thing. It's not in me to judge people in such ways, I'm afraid. Besides, can not piracy hide a good heart every once in awhile?"

My smile blossomed a bit more at her words. “Well my lady Lessa if all of your people are as wonderfully perceptive as you then things should work out splendidly.” And about then the serving lady returned and I removed my hand from my companion to pay for both our drinks. I took care to pay a proper tip as well before once more turning back to the striking red head.

"Thank you," I said as I took my glass. "And there are a good many people much more perceptive than myself; I just have the benefit of good schooling to make it seem more flashy. My mother thought I should learn everything possible so there would never be anything I didn't expect."

I sipped my drink and watched her. “Good advice not to mention practice. Though I have been schooled pretty well myself I am finding that practice is a bit different than book learning. This is probably why I am feeling like such a dolt at the moment.”

"I understand what you mean," I replied, taking a sip of my wine and smiling. "My experience with practicing what I know have been limited as well, mostly to the business I have to undertake."

Something about her words made me think. Then it hit me who she was and my eyes got a bit wide, but other than that I showed little reaction. “Ah, I can certainly understand that. You have some incredible pressures placed upon you and from all appearances have held up wonderfully.”

His words made me wonder but I left things as they were. "Well, we all have our jobs to do," I said modestly. "Some are much harder than mine."

“Well spoken” I saluted her with my glass. “But I fear we have talked shop already more than enough what do you say?” And at that I left it. I had not gone into overt detail as to who exactly I was. If she figured out I walked near the Illyrian throne fine, if not fine as well. Just as the dawning on me of her title made no difference to me.

His name tied him to the Ban, I knew that much- but the connections were not one I was going to puzzle out, as I knew I'd most likely found out later through intrigue since Pieter had said he was to be a diplomat. "Yes, that's enough speaking of work," I replied softly, stroking his hand again, curious as to what he would do though I chided myself inwardly.

On an impulse I simply took her hand when I felt her stroke mine. My soft fingers neatly entwining with her own. “So what not work related means of passing the time would make Lessa smile?” I asked in honest sincerity.

A light flush, the bare pinkening of my cheeks at his touch and I smiled. "I like birds," I told him with a smile. "Falconry mostly but I also keep some songbirds. I'm not sure why but they intrigue me." With my free hand I fingered the necklace I wore, a delicate gold chain with a delicately detailed feather pendant.

I let my eyes follow her finger as she played with her pendant. My thumb mildly stroking her hand where our hands were entwined. “Now that sounds interesting. I do not know a thing about birds. Perhaps you might teach me?”

“Well I figure you can show me since the falconing sounds very interesting. And to be honest I do not even know enough to tell you what I would like to know.” I kept her hand in my light grip as it seemed oddly appropriate. I was even managing not to blush.

I finished my wine as well and set the glass aside. Then I removed my hand from her’s and stood to pull back her chair. “I am ready now though I fear I have no means of conveyance at hand.”

It wouldn't have been seemly to hold his hand as we walked like we were lovers or some such, but I instead tucked my hand into his elbow. "yes, it is a pleasant day," I agreed softly and with a smile, cheeks flushing again.
