I laughed. "Or perhaps it seems that the masters that are produced only come from certain parts of the world, can you agree or disagree with that?" I queried.

“I would have to disagree,” I answered. “Their backgrounds are varied. Perhaps it is that they just now congregate in small areas?”

I nodded. "I think that may be closer to the heart of the issue," I said wtih a smile. "Who have you worked with?"

"Most recently Masters Deionvenue and Janruffin on a project in La Serrenissima," I answered. Their names were well known for their stonework and I had no doubt she'd heard of them.

My eyes opened wide. "That is quite the mentorship," I mused, then laughed, "its a pity there's no masters in my art."

“It was not actually a mentorship, I was working by their sides,” I replied. “And I certain there must be a master somewhere in your field. True, he or she might be more difficult to locate, but someone must have risen to a level high enough to be considered a master, no?”

"Hmm well," I mused, "there have been in the past.. but having masters in my art is a dangerous thing... and people fear what they do not understand, and fear power, so those who showed considerable power in magic often ended up dead," I smiled. "Mine is an art where it is too dangerous to be too open about your abilities... so yes... definitely harder to locate and very difficult to come by."

“Do you know of any place where it might be more likely to find such a master?” I asked curiously.

II thought for a moment. "Menekhet has a very rich history in the dark arts, though that has died down a great deal. It might be a good idea to start there. La Serenissima as well, and of course, where my own grandmother had been from, Drujani. She was something of a servant to the bone priests," I said with a chuckle. "I guess one could start by looking for those who claim to read the future, and move up from there, though I imagine it would be hard to find a genuine master in my arts that way. The only other way is by leaving something of a calling card. Usually those versed in teh magicks are able to sense others with that power, through auras, or just... a feeling I suppose, it is a little hard to explain, but that would require impeccable timing," I explained.

“Do you have any interest in seeking such a master?” I asked.

"Well, first and foremost in my craft is being able to learn new and helpful things," I said solemnly. "I once apprenticed with a chirurgeon to learn some things that, even though they might not seem useful to my art, were very helpful. But finding someone in my arts, a master... well it could be dangerous," I grinned wryly then, "then again, what isn't. Yes, I would like to find such a person, but it may have to wait until I find myself an apprentice. My mother is getting a little aged, although still very able, I don't like leaving her for long periods of time... until its time to truly leave," I explained. The way my family worked was.. .well kind of odd. "Might you know of someone who is a master in my field?" I asked her, quirking a brow.

“No, I wish I could be of aide there,” I said, shaking my head a little. “Have you any candidates for your apprentice or do they usually come looking for you?”

"Well to tell you the truth," I said with a smile, "the family tradition it seems is that the apprentice always ends up being a child... as in my grandmother taught my mother, my mother taught me, and so I would teach a daughter, when I have one," I explained. "So I will not have an apprentice in that way for a while, but I feel that I should try to find someone who is open to the knowledge I have to impart, if for no other reason then to tend to the shoppe should I take on the work of expanding my knowledge base, which would require a great deal of time and travel."

I thought for a moment of what it would be like to try and find someone to oversee my business dealings while I was far away. "I can see how that will be a very difficult position to fill," I told her.

I nodded, smiling at her understanding. "In the grand scheme of things, finding a master in my arts could very well be well worth the trouble for the future of my art, and eventually, my child's understanding and knoweldge of the art... and of course for business." I chckled a little. "You would be surprised the interesting requests I get from people," I said, shaking my head.

I laughed. "Well, not all requests are fulfilled, I assure you," I mused, "the most requested item is poison. The second most requested item is something to help one with his manhood," I laughed at that one, shaking my head, "otherwise, I have been asked to hex, murder and locate people, I have been asked to speak with the dead, I have also been asked to bring people back to life," I said, smiling as I looked at Tabitha. "I've been asked to come up with a concoction that makes one's seed taste sweeter, for something of a salve to make one's skin smoother and appear younger. Really, if you can think of it, I have been asked to do it."

Somehow I wasn’t surprised that she wasn’t asked to make people smarter, this city did not seem to value that as of its top desires. “Can you create potions for all of those things?” I asked.

"For most of them yes, for other things there are incantations, or other certain celestial properties required. That was one of the reasons I was so interested in researching teh properties of certain stones. The properties can be amplified with spells or potions and used to do different things," I explained. I laughe da little. "It is interesting how people never really ask for anything practical - to be stronger, wiser, to be able to turn off and on emotions when they require, to lie without being detected."

I thought for a moment. “Foresight, I suppose. The ability to see a project as it looks finished before it is actually done, to know if there might be problems,” I answered.

"Very true," I said, returning her chuckle with a smile. "It is refreshing to see a woman who loves knowledge instead of being so preoccupied with whether her hair falls a certain way or her gown is the right material, or who is perturbed when she is not invited to the next big fete," I mused, hoping she would take it as a compliment.
